Federal Government (FG) announce am on Tuesday say
dem don remove the ultimatum warning wey dem been
give Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), wey
dem been talk say if the lecturers no komot from the
strike resume work, say dem go sack dem. Dem say na
after obonge people wey dey Naija and some members
of ASUU wey beg dem naim make dem reason to komot
the ultimatum.
Dem say Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) don confam am
say na true true say FG don pay the N200 billion wey
dem agree with ASUU for the meeting wey dem do with
oga presido Goodluck Jona on 5th of November, 2013,
say dem don pay am inside one Revitalization of
Universities Infrastructure Account.
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to oga Presido for
Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, yarn with journalists,
say na Mr Tunde Lemo wey be the Deputy Governor of
the Central Bank of Nigeria naim sign the CBN letter
wey dem address give the Accountant General of the
Federation, wey the letter dey confam am say na the
N200 billion naim dey the account balance.
Mr. Okupe dey yarn say FG own for inside the whole
matter na to settle the gbege wey dey cause the strike
wahala.
Him say, “Right now, the issue of ultimatum is not a
matter for discussion anymore. There has been
substantial compliance nationwide. If I say you must
return to work on the 9th and 70% of the people that I
am talking to have returned to work, that is substantial
compliance.
“Government appreciates the fact that a number of
universities have either resumed academic activities or
announced resumption dates in line with the directives
earlier issued by the Committee of Pro Chancellors. We
appreciate the fact that many chapters of ASUU have
resumed work and many more will follow suit shortly.”
