Beeps Error Description Action
1 long, 2 short Video Card Error Check the video card for proper installation. Try removing
and reinserting the video card. Replace the video

Continuous beeps Memory Error Clean the memory contacts and reseat the modules.
Remove all modules except the first bank. Replace the
memory, power supply, and motherboard.
High-frequency Overheating CPU Check CPU active heatsink and case fan(s) for proper
beeps while operation. Replace fans that are not working or are
system operating spinning too slowly. Use PC Health or hardware monitor
in BIOS to check active heatsink (CPU fan) speed. Check
airflow through case. Clean dirty or blocked air intakes
or exhaust ports.
Repeating CPU Incorrect CPU installation; CPU may be damaged or
high/low overheating. Check CPU active heatsink for proper
operation. Use PC Health or hardware monitor in BIOS
to check active heatsink (CPU fan) speed.

Message Description
BIOS ROM checksum error The checksum of the BIOS code in the BIOS chip is incorrect, indicating the
System halted BIOS code might have become corrupt. Contact your system dealer to replace
the BIOS.
CMOS battery failed The CMOS battery is no longer functional. Contact your system dealer for a
replacement battery.
CMOS checksum error Checksum of CMOS is incorrect, so the system loads the default equipment
Defaults loaded configuration. A checksum error can indicate that CMOS has become corrupt.
This error might have been caused by a weak battery. Check the battery and
replace if necessary.
CPU at nnnn Displays the running speed of the CPU.
Display switch is set The display switch on the motherboard can be set to either monochrome or
incorrectly color. This message indicates the switch is set to a different setting than indicated
