At least 15 Iraqi armed forces members were killed Saturday in an ambush, police in the Iraqi town of Ramadi said. Four high-ranking army offices among the dead.

Eighteen others were injured in the attack by militants about 400 kilometers (250 miles) west of Baghdad, police said.

Police officials said the soldiers, who were conducting an operation to clear several areas of militants, were killed when they entered a house rigged with explosives that were remotely detonated.

Among those killed was Gen. Mohammed al-Kerawi, the commander of the 7th Iraqi army brigade in Al-Anbar province, they said.

Iraq’s Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki condemned the attack in a statement. He also sent condolences to the families of the servicemen killed.

The latest attack is just the latest in a wave of violence across the country.

On Friday, two roadside bombs exploded at an outdoor market in northern Iraq, police in Tikrit said.

A day earlier, a string of suicide bombings killed at least 31 Shiite pilgrims south of Baghdad. The attacks came as thousands of pilgrims walked toward Karbala for al-Arbaeen, a 40-day period marking the death of Imam Hussein.http://www.punchng.com/news/15-iraqi-soldiers-killed-in-ambush-police/
