You are very right. I met a 9 foot python once on my way home. all it did was to try jumping over my 10 foot wall but later went under the gate...

it didn't even attack my goat. when I asked, I was told pythons don't kill anything they cannot swallow. men, my goose pimples grew that day... very close in size to this. I tried attacking it but it was just too fast before i could get over my confusion... really scary.

BTW, I live in a grassy area close to a swamp.

You are extremely ignorant and shallow minded.
Pythons are non venomous and are not aggressive.

I have used a stick to remove one blocking my gate and let it free into the nearby farm when I wanted to drive out, no biggie.

I'm not sure of the specie.

But people just come here and spew thrash they know nothing about.

I paid top dollars for a safari of a life time in 2005 to visit Kruger National park and Liwonde National park in South Africa and Malawi respectively. Three months later I was back in Nigeria on Chrismas and was shocked to see some rare Nigerian antelopes being displayed dead along the road on my way to Enugu. Ignorance is a disease and most Nairalanders are not exposed and educated enough to understand what your talking about.
My goodness!
You just said what has been on my mind, each time I pass by those antelopes near Okigwe I cringe at their site knowing that their habitat could have supported even larger predators if harnessed.
I also have had that unforgettable Kruger experience.
We are just misusing our natural resources.

A lot of ignorant people on that first page. No snake for several years has ever been documented to have eaten a human. Big constrictors like the python and boas and anacondas constitute negligible threat to a child and NO threat to an adult. Those people didn't kill it because it was a threat, they kill it because the average ignorant Nigerian who doesn't have the slightest clue about conservation of nature is conditioned to kill any wild creature he can get his hands on. Is it any wonder that in my lifetime of watching nature documentaries - whether on National Geographic or Discovery or Animal Planet or BBC or whatever - I've never seen an African or even a black presenting his love of animals and his knowledge of their ways before the world on screen. Not even animals on his own soil.

A big shame. All we do is breed like rats and overpopulate the whole place and wipe out the natural habitat of animals.

ikeno: Why are some of us so ignorant? These are non-poisonous snakes that attack rodents and small animals. Its high time we start watching some of these animal channels and see how innocent most of these animals are.

Its a sacrilege to kill a python in my villa. lets stop killing innocent animals all because of some old beliefs.

Mr. Oga, na for ur village dem kill the snake? Wasn't it on NL we saw a picture of a python that swallowed a grown up man? Besides the bible says man shall bruise the head of the serpent. Abeg if I see any type of snake, I go smash hin head except the snake can speak english or yoruba then we can relate.

Exactly! We Africans have no interest in our own animals, save to satiate our fears, feed our stomachs and fulfill our greed.

We cant even represent our own Native animals. We have to have oyinbos to come all the way here and spend their life documenting our animals.

All we are interested is jizzus, tonto dikeh and apc vs pdp. angry

mr sirdam: the amount of likes your post generated shows the level of ignorance and unwillingness to change in our society.

And if there was an "unlike option" ur post would have generated close to a thousand. This is Nigeria where there are no wildlife reserves nor game reserves. It wasn't like those people went looking for a snake to kill. It crossed their path and they killed it. If u don't like it then sue them.

It doesn't have to be a wildlife reserve. I'm quite sure there are plenty of bushes around as a natural habitat and they could have simply relocated the snake. Except you're telling me the whole of Abuja is urbanized which is laughable bulls.h1t. I come from Idemili in Anambra where we revere certain snakes and move them when we see them. And they never do anyone any harm. You may as well ask the villagers your ignorant question on which nature reserve they should have moved it to.

You're talking nonsense, bro. Anancondas don't eat humans and they'll only attack a human if threatened and it is very rarely fatal.

You're indeed right, but you will be shocked to also realised that our animals have been corrupted so they no longer behave the way you expect, just like our politicians. Let me shock you, goats are known to be herbivorous, but i have seen goats in Akure to be precise eating dead chicken flesh, drank kerosene on display for sale, so what will you say about that? In essence, dont under estimate our wild life.

Well I grew up in a place where such traditions do not exit. So basically we either run from snakes or try and kill them if we can. If I were trained in wildlife reservation or I grew up in ur community, I would move such snakes.
