The words were invented and have no roots in Igbo or Yoruba, so they're not alike.

Afam4eva: I don't know why people are surprised that Christmas is called similarly in different languages when Christmas in itself is imported and has no roots in any African culture. So, since there were no particular words in these languages that could appropriately mean "Christmas", it's just pronounced with the intonation of whichever language. It's just as Jesus is "jesu" or "yesu" in a lot of languages.

he didnt ask u the meaning of xmas.the question is whts is it called. it seems that u dont listen to igbo news or u dont read igbo littrature.it is called ekeresimesi in igbo. i was even suprise that yoruba has similar name.
