Why Jonathan sees Igbo as pillars of his government

A lot of people- including former President Obasanjo has criticised President Goodluck Jonathan for publicly declaring severally that the votes he received that counted for his 25 percent from Northern states particularly Kano, Borno, Adamawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, Sokoto and Plateau were contributed by teeming millions of Igbo residents in these areas beside other minority indegenes.

A cursory peep at that statement, may appear divisive and uncalculating on the part of Mr President in the potentially ethno-religious conondrum of our country. But a deeper reflection on that statement shows a sincere man who speaks to the world. I think Mr President's comments in this regard is a direct message to the international community-not to Nigerians.

In essence, the message is deeply rooted in the mind of a grossly threatened President, whose administration is buffeted on all sides by political shenanigans, religious violence and terrorism. He is grateful that behind this cesspit of onslaught echoes, as it were, some restrained, but solid voice of optimism and encouragement from a significant bloc.

The President is reminding the international community that the Igbos- whose homeland was faced with the sufferings of civil war and economic blockade and stagnation, has re-emerged as a strong force for not only economic and political stability of Nigeria but social justice and harmony. That himself- a minority could get such priceless support from Ndigbo- even at great economic and human losses in parts of the country outside the Eastern region- shatters that long-held minority fear, myth and theory of 'majority domination conspiracy'.

Above all the President has alerted the world that the Igbo believe in justice akin to their symbolic philosophy of 'ofo na ogu' and 'live and let live' (Egbe bere Ugo bere, nke is ibe ya ebela, nku kwapu ya.) This has gone a long way in correcting some impressions.

The moral of this is a good conduct is commendable and who is deserving of commendation-like the Igbo- should be commended. By the time the Hause and Yoruba realise that Nigeria belongs to all of us, we will make progress. Those who are bandying war against the completion of Jonathan's legal tenure (s) should realise that it is for the oil from his region that the rest of the country fought to preserve the country as one, and it is the money from this resource that salaries of thousands of people across 35 states are being paid and all the infrastructure are being built.

Let us bury our frustrations and differences and support the present government. Power will still rotate to our region- if the time comes would we expect to be run down as we are confusing and doing this one?

Therefore let us use our various social media platforms to speak good of our incumbent President and others. This is the time to give Mr President the support to transform all aspects of our society and force a change of his rethoric to "All Nigerians-Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Idoma, Fulani, Igala, Tiv, Kanuri etc- Are The Pillars of My Government."

Power is turn by turn please- all Nigerians, we are one and it should be 'One Love'. Mmanu akara di uto onye ratu ibe ya a ratu; onye o bula enwe anuri.

The basic foundation of Igbo society is "Egbe belu, Ugo belu, nke si ibe ya ebena, nku kwa ya" (Live and let live).

That's why we see every territory as open once access to it is legal.
That's why we compete strongly to be top, instead of "pull down syndrome" of Yorubas.

That's why we believe a Minority could be President without finding ways to give him unnecessary headache, because we believe he too can be great.

Igbo is the BEST. Don't hate!
If you think we are not, work harder to be better than us rather than try to pull us down.
Again don't hate.

After all, hard work pays! cool

Tell your president to take full charge of his government and discharge the needful tasks that Nigerians expect of him. He should desist from casting aspersions for his failure in government.

It's even doubtful the 100% commitment of some Ibo governors now...Chime and Elechi loyalty is very doubtful.

The only certain support is coming from the Agulu People Grand Alliance (APGA) governor.

Chime has always been on the fence. I heard he is a good friend to Amaechi but told Amaechi he wouldn't like to get involved in the fight with GEJ but promised never to criticize Amaechi.

Ibos are a minority in Nigeria. Their constant nagging at Yoruba is to create a false impression of rivalry where there's actually none.
When a proper census is done, I won't be surprised if you are actually behind Ijaw in population.

I said exactly same thing about their true population on a thread elsewhere....the fact that they are loud creates that false sense of majority.

It's no secret that igbos in Bauchi and Gombe ran away to southern states during the election, therefore it's so unfair to those that voted for him in those places not be recognised. how can igbo recieve glory for vote delivered by others.

Yes Igbo are minority in Nigeria where ethnicity and religion does not count in census. And we thought we bombed them all during the civil war and religious attacks.

Let our disappointment not be confirmed that there are more Igbo clusters all over the ECOWAS and sub Saharan states. We can ask Musiwa for satellite images of their locations though.lol!

This appeal should go to Jonathan himself. Whenever he utter words like "ibos are the pillar of my presidency" he is turning his own administration to a tribal one.

He was talking to igbo leaders when he made that statement to thank them for their support.
He did not say that as an address to the entire nation.

Then you must have not been to igboland before during past administrations to withness the state of decay and neglect.
Maybe you should ask the majority of igbos why they support jonathan.
I'm sure you're not smarter than all of them.
Unless you're not an igboman.

Talk of misleading headlines on NL. Where is OAM4J? When did GEJ make such statement? GEJ never made that statement. The statement was made by an aide of the president. The aide is from the southeast and he is not the spokesperson for GEJ. The spokesperson for GEJ is Abati. APC can continue their wicked lies and propaganda.
