Genesis 6:3: And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. - King James Bible "Authorized Version", Cambridge Edition This is a very interesting verse of the Bible. Here, man is clearly given a limitation. He cannot live past the age of one hundred and twenty. Isn't it however remarkable that quite a number of people now live well past and above that age? Or, has god pushed that age limit a bit further? Hence, wouldn't it be logical to conclude that the current bible is archaic and needs updating? Is there any other christain interpretation of this verse that my carnal mind cannot comprehend? (even though it looks quite straight forward enough). Do share your thoughts. |

Why are the creatures trying to catch the creator by his words and ignoring the contextual statement? The OP should have read a little down the passage before jumping to conclusions. 1 Like |

And what is really "LIFE" after age 90' ... I guess you dont wanna know... Well, I dont think the Bible is a mathematics textbook , its not logical... You just have to use your reasoning.... And have you read the bible from its first page till its end? Cos its then you can grasp the truest meaning of God's word |

Zikdik: Genesis 6:3: It's a matter of revelation and choice Psalms 90:10 Seventy years are given us! And some may even live to eighty. But even the best of these years are often empty and filled with pain; soon they disappear, and we are gone. |

Goshen360: Why are the creatures trying to catch the creator by his words and ignoring the contextual statement? Yeah, @ op if u had read further u will discover Noah was 600yrs when this statement was made, and lived 350yrs more after the flood. After then the yrs start reducing as the time for final restoratio/redemption of all things drew near! |

Pastor Olu T: Plus, the real issue is, the statement of Genesis 6:3 was the intended mind of God for punishment BUT (a negating conjunction) Noah found Grace in the sight of God. ...in the same context. Genesis 6:8. What does that tell us? When God tells a man he will die, like the case of the king Isaiah was sent to but when such find Grace in God's sight, will that make God's statement the man will die a lie? Grace terminates God's wrath when found in Christ. |

Ranchhoddas: There is so much confusion in the bible,u cant help but wonder if it's truly divine. But God is NOT the author of confusion, yet he authored the word by His Spirit. Where then cometh confusion? 1 Like |

Zikdik: Genesis 6:3: Read in context (starting from verse one and going a little after the portion you quoted) the portion you referred to means that God was giving mankind a period of 120 years before executing judgement on the earth. It was not referring to how long any man will live before dying. 1 Like |
