4 GB RAM On Smartphones Becomes Realizable With Samsung’s New Chip by vowiski(m): 11:04am On Dec 30, 2013
ThatNaijaBlog - The leader in consumer electronics Samsung has unveiled the first ever 8-gigabit (1GB) low-power DDR4 memory chip, a landmark achievement which would make 4 GB RAM completely realizable to use on smartphones, tablets as well as laptops. The new chip will provide an overall better performance over its ancestors which made 3 GB of RAM possible on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The new chip is a higher-bandwidth (DDR standard) which will produce 50% more speed than the existing DDR3-based chips while utilizing less power than existing chips. It is reported to use 40% less power than its predecessor.

While Android has failed to migrate to 64-bit, thus requiring more power for processing, Samsung’s new chip will give the OS a little boost as smartphones and tablets would be able to power Ultra HD displays which requires a great deal of power to output the extra pixels. Samsung says, the new RAM will be mass produced and available to the industry in 2014. More details would be unveiled at the CES 2014 which would be exclusively covered here. The new 8 Gigabit DRAM chips should be available on the Samsung’s Galaxy S5 which is expected to be unveiled also at the CES 2014 in Las Vagas.
