Opposition Elements Are Clowns, Says Maku by Nobody: 5:57pm On Jan 01, 2014
Ministerof Information and Supervising Minister of Defence, Labaran Maku, on Tuesday recapped the achievements of President Goodluck Jonathan in the last three years and rated it as unprecedented in the history of the country.
He however went political, describing those in the opposition, particularly the ‘rogressives’ as clownish elements who are sentimentally bent on ceasing power in 2015, hence have refused to see anything good in the current administration.
He made these remarks at the end of year briefing organised by the Federal Ministry of Information to assess the administration of Jonathan.
While reeling out some of the administration’s achievements, he said inflammatory statements attributed to the opposition class were mere selfish political motives, which will ultimately spell doom for the nation if not curtailed.
He said: “In recent days, when you open some newspapers, you see inflammatory statements saying Nigeria will collapse in 2015, if we do not win election, Nigeria will collapse in 2015!!! We must ask these clowns to shut up.
“The young people of this nation should call on these old people, who are confused, to leave this nation alone, Nigeria is not about anybody’s ambition.
“At a time there has been insurgence in China and China is emerging as a big economic power, at a time there was insurgence in India and India is emerging as the next economic power house”.
He said within a three-year time frame, the construction of 10 power plants has been completed and they are expected to generate 4,075megawatts of electricity from 2014.
On the economic scene, Maku said over N6 trillion worth of investments have been attracted into the country through foreign direct investment, a feat he attributed to viable economic policies by the Jonathan administration in the last three years.
He said: “This country, in the last 100 years, has recorded tremendous progress as a country, we have emerged as a people with better consciousness.
“Secondly, if you look at Nigeria of 1914 and now, you know we live in a different society today, in 1914 most of the infrastructures you see today were not in place.
“Hardly could people travel between North and South, the bridges and the railways were just beginning to spring up, most of the Trunk A roads you see today were not there, there was no single university by 1914, Ibadan started in 1948”.
According to Maku, the Gross Domestic indices of the Nigerian economy have been built and stabilised at seven per cent per annum in the last three years, while also stabilising the exchange rate and reducing inflation to about eight per cent.
He said over N118 billion. which ought to be paid as salaries to ghost workers, have been salvaged through technological measures deplored in the civil service.
