The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) shut down Gombe International Airport yesterday ostensibly for repairs but the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) said it was a deliberate act to stop their leaders from landing at the airport. The airport was closed down when a delegation of APC leaders was airborne in a chartered plane from Abuja to inaugurate the party's interim leaders in Gombe yesterday. When the plane approached Gombe, the pilot was advised to divert because the tarmac was being mended. The pilot turned and made for Bauchi airport but it was after lengthy conversation back and forth that the aircraft was permitted to land in Bauchi. The delegation then proceeded to Gombe by road. A former Minister of State for Power and Steel, Malam Murtala Aliyu, who was on board the plane, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust last night. He said their aircraft was airborne when they were told they won't be allowed to land in Gombe because of some repair work. But he said they found out that this was done simply to sabotage the planned inauguration of the APC executive in the state. |

The Joint Military Task Force (JTF) yesterday in Rivers State arrested six youths bearing seven AK47 rifles around Ekporo Road on their way to Ogu. Among them was Daniel Ibito-Anga, who parades himself and is known in Ogu Bolo as Security Adviser/PA to Senator George Sekibo (Rivers East Senatorial zone) and Evans Bipi, the Rivers State Assemblyman who was recently stopped by a court from parading himself as the Speaker of the Assembly. Others arrested gave their names as Sunday Elisha, Uche Jenikachi, Ibinabo Lawson, and Okechukwu Okoro. In addition to the rifles, the men had 146 rounds of 7.62mm Special life ammunition and 10 life magazines among others. They were stopped on the basis of their suspicious movement as they headed for Ogu Bolo Local Government Area in an off white Land Rover jeep with registration number JJ441BZ. Both Senator Sekibo and Evans Bibi are from Ogu and have publicly confessed to being extremely close associates of Nigerian First Lady Patience Jonathan, who hails from nearby Okrika, and they all speak the same Okrika dialect. Evans Bipi was a domestic aide of Mrs. Jonathan before he was elected into the Rivers State House of Assembly in 2011, Sekibo, who nurses gubernatorial ambitions, hopes to ride into Government House on the back of Mrs. Jonathan. They are all publicly known to be fighting the Rivers State governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. |

“It is not a matter of planning to take over, that is what the rule of the House says, that the majority takes over the leadership of the House. We have no choice in the matter. You cannot be the majority and play the minority role,” Mr. Gbajabiamila said. “Tambuwal will remain Speaker in all circumstances. He was elected by the whole House. Most of the APC members are comfortable with him. I cannot speak for the deputy, but I will rather have a situation where he remains.” |

Despite all the claims by President Goodluck Jonathan and his men that a lot is being done to improve power and other critical infrastructure, the world’s richest man, Bill Gates, has just released a shocking fact that they are just lying and deceiving Nigerians, as usual. Bill Gates has assisted Jonathan on several issues, so no one can claim that he is one of Jonathan’s so called enemies.

APC has appointed a former Governor of Edo State, Chief John Odigie Oyegun and former Chairman of the defunct New PDP, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, to co-chair a high- powered committee set up to resolve internal crises rocking its chapters in Adamawa, Kano and Sokoto States. what “is happening in Adamawa, Kano and Sokoto should be expected. With the merger, political calculations and equation are bound to be affected. With the five governors coming over, these were further affected.” Mohammed said that there were instances where three gubernatorial candidates contesting on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in 2011 are now together in the new APC (Adamawa is a good example of that) APC will not spare any effort to resolve the crises. The crises are normal. When the chances of political offices are contracted, naturally people will react. But we have set up a high-powered committee that will go to all these states to resolve the crises. Again, there is a lot of misunderstanding and misplaced fear |
