The home base super eagles of Nigeria will kick start their maiden campaign for 2014 African Nations Championship CHAN in South Africa when they tackle the Eagles of Mali in the second game of the tournament. Host South Africa will take on Mozambique in the opening match.

In preparation to the tournament, the Eagles won their first test match against Prisons FC of Abuja 4-1, before going on to record 2-0 wins against Niger Tornadoes of Minna and Plateau United of Jos, respectively. The home base eagles later drew 2-2 with the 2013 league champions Kano pillars and wrapped up the preparation by defeating Ethiopia 2-1 in Abuja.

Kick off time is 8pm (Nigerian time)

All matches will be shown live on Super sport.

Uzoenyi: Winning first Chan game

Nigeria midfielder Ejike Uzoenyi believes it is
important that the domestic Eagles to win
their first game of the African Nations
Championship (Chan) against Mali on
Saturday in Cape Town.
In a chat with the allnigeriasoccer site
Uzoenyi said, “We are ready for this
tournament and our target is to win one
game after the other until we get to the Final.
“Winning our first game against Mali is very
important. Any team that wants to go far in
any competition should target three points in
the opener but we have to take the games as
they come.
“Hopefully we shall bring home the cup. The fans should pray for us just like they always do and we will win together as we always do,” Uzoenyi added.

Amokachi urges team to stay focused.

Despite being tipped as favourites to win the African Nations Championship (Chan), Nigeria’s Super Eagles have promised not to allow themselves get carried away by the hype of the moment.

Speaking on behalf of the team, assistant coach Daniel Amokachi noted that while fans and pundits are entitled to make predictions,h e believes every team at the tourney is here to win, and as a result his team will not get carried away.

He further promised that the team will put in all their efforts, with the aim of lifting the Chan trophy

"The boss, Stephen Keshi does not believe in quick fix and we don’t either," Amokachi told the players and officials in their first training session at Cape Town on Wednesday evening.

"We must work very hard if we are to take something out of this place and most importantly remain disciplined."
