When talking about WhatsApp, users usually understand that it’s one account associated to a telephone number.

However, there is the possibility of having several WhatsApp accounts on just one smartphone, thanks to an application called 2Lines. With this app, a user can manage two or more different WhatsApp accounts from a same device, and in a simple way.

Unlike other applications, like the BBM, for example, which uses an identification code or PIN, WhatsApp only lets you use one account per device. An, in a certain way, those who believe that this is a restriction by the app are right. However, there is a way to bypass this limitation. This way carries certain risks, since you have to do some things to the device in order ton be able to have two WhatsApp accounts on just one phone.

There is only one requirement to be able to do this, and it s that the phone has to have special permissions to be able to make changes to the root menu of the device. Thus, it has to be, as it’s commonly said, rooted. This sometimes void the factory warranty on the equipment, so each user will have to proceed with care and consider the consequences that he or she may face.



The first thing that you have to do is download the free application, 2Lines for WhatsApp, from Google Play. The download process is no different from downloading any other application from Google’s app market. In addition, you’ll have to create a new phone number. This can be done through a service called FonYou, which is free, and lets users create a telephone number automatically. The number can be used for several things, for example, to run WhatsApp from a computer.

FonYou is a service that lets you create the new phone number that will be connected with the one the user already has. However, in order to use it, you must have a Spanish ID number, which may be hard for users in Latin America and the rest of the world. FonYou also has a battery of applications for phones that will let you make calls from that second number.

Once you’ve installed the application, it’s advisable to take a series of actions to avoid having problems in the future. In the first place, make a security copy of all the chats from WhatsApp Account Settings. It’s important to consider that, within Account Settings, the user may find many of the “hidden” functions that can be found on WhatsApp. In second place, you must also grant Root permissions to 2Lines. This is necessary to guarantee the correct performance of the application, and effectively manage two WhatsApp accounts on one phone.

2Lines will install a new application on the user’s cell phone. In order to access the different accounts, you must enter the application and select the account you want to use. The registration process is the same as the one WhatsApp puts you through: enter a phone number, although in this case, you won’t have to wait for confirmation. Thus, you can create two or more accounts on just one device, something many consider impossible.
