Chidi4u: Etisalat service is a satellite network, with their service provider, The Ibadan and Ogbomoso Network are Satellite paths, with their dishes mounted in a particular area in each town. The Dishes have their remote end to be Lagos(Somewhere in Ikeja), I think they're not doing bad presently. Mind you, they just rolled out. |
Re: Etisalat - Nigeria's 5th GSM Operator by sojioguns(m): 12:09am On Oct 28, 2008 |
What do you mean by satellite network or backbone. They probably use satellite technology for interstate links not for consumer purposes. As long as your phone is not a Thuraya or other satellite phone and you receive Etisalat signal, then they are not a satellite network. "JUST ROLLING OUT" is not an excuse not to meet consumer demands. WE JUST WANT A RELIABLE TELEPHONE SERVICE. |

http://www.networkworld.com/news/2008/102808-etisalat-nigeria-plans-free-calls.html "Barring intervention from the country's telecom regulator, Etisalat Nigeria will offer subscribers free network-to-network calling for no less than six months to win over mobile subscribers." "Etisalat, however, is weighing its options. Free network-to-network calling for six months could cause mass dumping of other networks' GSM SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) cards in preference for the new network, a move the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) could deem anticompetitive." "It could also stir similar actions by other networks, particularly Glo Mobile, to open a major war that may not "augur well for the sector in the long run," said an NCC official in Abuja." If they actually do this, then yes it would be time to get excited. |
