[size=15pt]Militants take over oil platform in Bayelsa[/size]

An oil platform of a major oil company in Sangana, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, has been taken over by militants.


This is coming just as the operatives of the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) has beefed up security on the Nembe water ways to forestall any attack by the militant groups.


The platform, according to a source, was invaded by the militant youth in the early hours of Tuesday, shooting sporadically to scare the workers and the mobile policemen attached to the platform.


The incident, which occurred barely four days after a group of suspected militant youths engaged the operatives of JTF in a gun duel that lasted for four hours in the Nembe creek, has now heightened tension in the area.


As of the time of filing this report, it could not be confirmed whether there was any casualty or hostages.


But the Commander of JTF in the state, Lt. Col. Chris Musa, while speaking with the Nigeiran Tribune on the telephone, said soldiers had been sent to the area.


“I am still expecting the report from them, that is why I cannot say categorically what happened,” he said.
