Niger Bridge May Collapse Before Christmas. by QuotaSyste(m): 7:02pm On Sep 25, 2008 |
Ooo Yes. Until MASSOB start to carry arms to demand in protest for the building of new bridge, this illiterate and wicked hausa/yoruba government will not see any need to build new Niger bridge in the past and at this very moment. Watch until violent protest is kicked off by any Igbo pressure group and see hausa/yorubas everywhere and in this forum term them as criminals that doesn't want to give the government time to build another bridge. When things are calm, your criminal and illiterate government will never work nor do anything positively tangible. But when violence escalates, they will be asking stupid questions like, "how can we build the bridge when the youths are carrying arms and distracting the contractors from working". Obasanjo, a yoruba former president awarded a fake and fraudulent N60Billion contract for building a new Niger Bridge since last year and until now, nothing has happened. This is why i still believe that only, and i repeat, only an Igbo president will take bold steps to bring infrastructure changes anywhere in Igboland. Left for these crooks that we are caged in the same country with, they will never do anything worth doing in anywhere Igboland territory because of the fear of the rise of Igbos. No good roads, no international airport, no sea port, and now, a bridge that will soon collapse and kill no other people than Igbo sons and daughters. Some will come here to insinuate they don't care where the president comes from so far as he does blah blah blah blah . But when it's time to elect Igbo president, you will see same people asking silly questions like "can we trust Igbo president" "Igbos must provide their best of bests as presidential candidate" as if their own group have ever provided the best of their people in the past as nigeria's president. The same idiots will support and vote for the sharia mind infested Buhari who recently and openly denied that Abacha stole any money while calling and maintaining that Igbos most provide their best. http://odili.net/news/source/2008/sep/25/708.html Niger Bridge may collapse before Christmas By Okey Maduforo, Correspondent, Awka Nigerians from the South-East and South-South geo-political zones may face a bleak Christmas following apprehension that the 40-year-old Niger Bridge may collapse before December this year. Niger Bridge at Onitsha and Asaba Though Setraco Construction Company had carried out maintenance work on the bridge two years ago, its condition has worsened recently due to sustained pressure, which experts fear the bridge may no longer endure, particularly these 'ember' months. Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has also accused the Federal Government of fraud following confusion over the award of N60 billion second Niger Bridge, which was flagged off by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo's administration, insisting there was more to it than meets the eye. Confirming these fears, Chairman of Senate Committee on Works, Julius Ucha, challenged the Federal Government, the immediate past administration and other affected bodies to present proof that contract for a second Niger Bridge was awarded, adding that the present Niger Bridge was indeed a death trap. Design and Technical Manager of Setraco Construction Company, Elid Sheidid, who carried out maintenance work on the bridge two years ago, told reporters that despite what the company had done so far, the bridge was still at the verge collapse as a result of threat by gully erosion at the Asaba end. "We were involved in maintenance work on this bridge with European experts from Holland and United Kingdom, and the technical experts said that there is a lot of work to be done to maintain it. We have another problem, which is erosion that is threatening the bridge. We are working with the Federal Government and we hope the problems would be solved very soon. "Contract to maintain the bridge was awarded to us in 2005 and we have done 70 per cent of the work of putting the bridge in order. However, the bridge is under serious threat," Sheidid said. Governor Obi spoke angrily on the state of the bridge. "This bridge, from all indications, has shown that this traffic on it is too heavy and worrisome. Even truck drivers complain to us about vibrations from the bridge." On the vexing issue of a second Niger Bridge, Obi said the Federal Government was lying. "May be there is another document they have, the second Niger Bridge is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) between Anambra and Delta governments, which are supposed to contribute 10 per cent each and the Federal Government 20 per cent. The contractor will borrow 50 per cent of the total contract sum. We commenced a meeting among the three governments. The last was held over a year ago. So, they can't be meeting without inviting us when we have paid 10 per cent because that will amount to fraud," Obi said "How can they say they have awarded the contract when we have not been attending meetings and nobody ever invited us. Somebody, somewhere has never called a meeting. What they did here, as I said before, was a fraud. If you flag off a contract you awarded, you mobilise the contractor. If you go to the site now, there is nothing there. We want the bridge built, and we are prepared for any condition to build this bridge. All they did then was a total fraud, because neither Delta nor Anambra are aware of their actions," Obi added. Senator Julius Ucha, who led the committee to Anambra State, noted that, "What we are doing here is fact-finding on the state of this bridge and the issue of awarding contract for the second Niger Bridge. What we have seen on ground is that this bridge is about to collapse. Secondly, nothing has been done about the second Niger Bridge. It is unfortunate that the representation by officials of the Ministry of Transportation that this bridge had been repaired, or that it is in a serviceable condition is not true. The contractor has told us of the risk of this bridge collapsing. And as we return to Abuja we are going to commence investigation and invite the Governors of Anambra and Delta states and the Minister and officials of the Ministry of Transportation, and all the contractors to ensure we find a lasting solution to the problems of the Niger Bridge," Ucha said. |

Re: Niger Bridge May Collapse Before Christmas. by QuotaSyste(m): 7:47pm On Sep 25, 2008 |
landis:Yes, even with his madness and no matter the extent, he still remembers (as any other hausa) that yorubas were their partners in war crime perpetrated against the Igbos/Biafrans. So the oil money booty must also be allowed to trickle into the area of their partners in crime while the war victims are left to fed on their own and every bad policy be invented to keep them as down as possible. Until you understand the poitics, you will still be happy like the novice Niger Deltans to be trapped inside that luggard's cage called nigeria. |

Kobojunkie: Can someone explain to me why this Kobojunkie is laughing her ass out on such an important issue? What does she find so amusing about the possibility of a bridge falling and potentially killing thousands of people? Why would this prospect make anyone laugh his/her ass out? How can someone laugh at the possible death of thousands of people? |

an example of the poor maintenance culture of Nigerians The contractor has told us of the risk of this bridge collapsing. bawomolo: Spot on!! They had a 'probe panel' about two months ago!!! I don't know how states and FG resolve their issues but I think the state government(s) should repair or build the new bridge then sue the FG to get a refund When OBJ was flagging off the bridge I'm very sure some SE were popping champagne with him knowing full well its all abracadabra!! |

Re: Niger Bridge May Collapse Before Christmas. by ochiaha1(m): 10:07am On Sep 26, 2008 |
Its not only the Niger Bridge that its collapse is imminent, but nearly all briges all over the country because of poor maintenance or over-use, as in the case of the Niger Bridge, as there are no other alternatives. The bridge that collapsed in OCtober 2007 at the state of minnasota, the United States, which crosses over the Missisipi river, has now being rebuilt and commissioned this September 2008, just under a year after it collapsed. This shows that the system (Beauracracy) works in the United States, [i]while over here in Nigeria, govt. will make statements of intent, repeatedly, about the need to repair the existing Niger Bridge and also build a second bridge over the Niger and nothing ever gets done in the end. The new bridge in minnasota has electronic chips with in-built sensors implanted into the cement used in building the bridge and information obtained from these sensors are monitored by the state road maintenance agency and the University of Minnasota; this information gives a minute-to-minute report on the state of the new bridge and in future will warn, long before it occurs, about the imminent collapse of the bridge so that the state govt. will take pre-emptive measures to forstall this. The new technology above is needed for all our bridges so that we may know their level of performance and enable us take corrective steps on those which are already in danger of collapsing. |

Kobojunkie: Thats why i don't like to reply to your posts. You reason from the nose just like a dumb ass. Have you been to this same bridge we are talking about here? This same bridge would have been repaired, supported or rebuild, if it had been the bridge between kano and abuja or Lagos and Ibadan. I heard they recently closed TMB for rebuilding. And the NIGER bridge is far more older than TMB. We all have to wait until it collapse . Maybe you dont know that small bridge connect the whole Igbo network. If it is not tribalism, how come the whole people of Igboland has no international airport and they are the biggest travellers in the whole country? how come the whole Igboland has no seaport and they are the biggest importers in the whole of Nigeria? What exactly do you know about Nigeria? You depend on what you read online to judge whats going on in The country you fled. Its not only tribalism, its more than that. Its hatred, wickedness and most of all FEAR. FEAR AND FEAR. |
Re: Niger Bridge May Collapse Before Christmas. by landis(m): 12:20pm On Sep 26, 2008 |
The new technology above is needed for all our bridges so that we may know their level of performance and enable us take corrective steps on those which are already in danger of collapsing. Nigerian's problem is not lack of technology, money or resource. It is BLANTANT corruption and hatred we have for each other. |

Believe it or not, that's just the law of Karma. [s]I don't want to believe you're a psychiatric patient.[/s] |
Re: Niger Bridge May Collapse Before Christmas. by onyengbu1(m): 1:03pm On Sep 26, 2008 |
Why will they not laugh? It doesnt concern them. I no longer wonder why all the other tribes in the country hates the Igbos because I have since come to understand that it is FEAR. They fear that the igbo man is too clever and intelligent. Thats why they dont allow any igbo man to get too close to any good thing in the country. Somebody has just asked whether it is not state government that maintains a Federal structure like Niger bridge on a Federal highway Another hypocrite hausa/yourba will soon second him that, yes, its the fault of your own leaders! Thats about all they can defend themselves with. Things are bad all over the country, yes we know that but we have all been to the North and we all know how roads are constructed in high standard and all. Some questions that I will expect any hausa/yoruba to answer includes: 1. Why will the Fed. govt. award the maintenance of Niger bridge to setraco? Would it have been setraco (and not Julius Berger) if the bridge is the West or north? 2. Why has the government abandoned shagamu - ore - benin expressway and leaving travellers on that road who are mainly igbos to the mercy of robbers and accidents? 3. why is there no seapor or international airport in the igboland? 4.why hasnt any igbo man been made the defence minister or inspector General of Police or other sensitive national position. there are many of them, and they have one simple answer--- they are afraid of what the igbos might become. |

@ QuotaSyste Although the story is touching but you have to take it easy. You are talking like a frustrated soul. The governments you are referring to, will not read this thread and so have no impact in your lamentations. But you have governors who should provide basic amenities. If not all, but some. By blaming the federal government for everything, you will justify your govs for their misdeeds or unfair spending of state funds. But when it's time to elect Igbo president, you will see same people asking silly questions like "can we trust Igbo president" "Igbos must provide their best of bests as presidential candidate" as if their own group have ever provided the best of their people in the past as nigeria's president. Maybe your leaders betray you in the secret and give other people a say. I wish they repair the bridge anyway. |

onye_ngbu: . . . and now that an Igbo man (Paul Dike) is the Chief Defence Staff will views change? It is a criminal and wicked neglect by the FG to have allowed the Niger bridge to detoriate the status it is currently is. |
Re: Niger Bridge May Collapse Before Christmas. by onyengbu1(m): 2:18pm On Sep 26, 2008 |
youngies:so you can only point out the Paul Dike issue out of the few questions i just raised? Why not make an Igbo man in the Army the CDS? Why was Onovo dropped shamelessly as the choice of Inspector General of Police? There are still many of such questions. But you have governors who should provide basic amenities. If not all, but some. By blaming the federal government for everything, you will justify your govs for their misdeeds or unfair spending of state funds. is it your own governors that provided you with amenities like Niger bridge, international airports, seaports and highways? I pointed that out on my first post because you people don't have better answers to all the injustices besides that. |
