@Pastor_t, I am not sure nigeria government will categorise SUVs as buses/trucks. You may want to double-check with customs. I will play safe and get one less than 10 years old. Also, think about it, what do you want to do with an SUV that's over 10 years old? I will not recommend you buy it. |

I am not sure what to make of this. Not everyone is able to go to the bank and get a loan to buy vehicles that are 10 years of age and newer, so those that depends on the older rides are in big trouble then, and prices of rides will jump up, meanwhile salary remain same. Though, it will rid Nigeria of all the jumks being imported, but there is pros and cons to it all. |

Fhemmmy:I beg to defer. adding extra 2 yrs will lead to influx of cars, more choice, better competition and most importantly reduction in car prices. |

Dealers Beware: In a five-year tariff regime released in Abuja yesterday by the Director-General of Budget Office, Dr. Bright Okogu, the government said that from 2008 to 2012, any car older than 10 years would not be allowed into Nigeria. The added: NCS boss, Mr. Ahmed Mustapha, said that his men are [color=#990000]set to invade the markets, raid shops and confiscate the items (cars) should they still find their way into the country in spite of the new rule. Now what will the government do with the seized vehicles? Crush and recycle them? Do they even have the facilities to do proper recycling? Lets wait and see. |

Re: Breaking News: FG Bans Tokunbo Cars Over 10 Years Old - Trucks & Buses Exempted by promise72(m): 12:45am On Sep 27, 2008 |
egin: Kinda unfair. of that comment. Cars already on the streets are junk anyway. Not many ppl can still afford a 10-yr old car. Even here in the good ol U.S.A |
Re: Breaking News: FG Bans Tokunbo Cars Over 10 Years Old - Trucks & Buses Exempted by jaybee3(m): 6:10am On Sep 27, 2008 |
egin:Do you even know the average salaries of common hard working Nigerians (not the thiefing politicians & government officials) on the street? These people clearly cannot afford newer vehicles but i do agree that a policy to gradualy phase out those death moving thrash called cars or accident waiting to happen junks ought to be introduced. People do need to move around and giving consumers the opportunity to access a more competitive affordable market will only benefit everyone. Yes their will always be a downside to this in terms of increase of cars on the road (more traffic on already bad road network) and that will surely be addressed once the government start investing in alternative mode of transport |
