has come out with a bomb shell.it plans to sack tens of thousands of civil servants to

join the already overbloated unemployment market.

This is a complete non-issue. Even if 10,000 civil servants are sacked, that's only 0.01% of the Nigerian population. If the federal government can improve the life of every Nigerian by sacking 0.01%, so be it!

Precisely! Everyone keeps complaining public institutions are corrupt, ineffeiceint etc. How else are they supposed to be improved without shedding the excess useless burden?

The mass sack is a welcome development. Why should we have more drivers than cars in the federal civil service? Why should we have 85 years old men and women still working in the civil service? It's high time to got rid of the untrainable materials we have in our present civil service of today. We all want efficiency and results. We can't make any progress in this country unless decisions like this are made. Vibrant youths have to be absorbed into positions to redeem this disintegrating entity called nigeria.

Do you sincerely believe that any thing would come out of these "CIVIL SERVICE REFORMS" ?
well i doubt it. Poor people would be sacked prematurely, would wait endless for their pensions, and some
unfortunately would not get it,landlords would have a field day making people homeless and what of those with kids in schools?Do you really think that the FG would employ youths to fill these vacancies as some one postulated? I doubt it
The problem with the civil service is not the drivers or the messengers.It is anachronistic and sincere overhauling must be done.Policies hardly work where i come from-NEEDS,PAP(Poverty alleviation Program) etc whats the latest on them now? Thats how its done. Shout about something and next thing -nothing. My heart goes to those who would be sacked and their unsure future. I however trust in God to take care of His own and i know that many are calling on His name for devine wisdom. Its a pity

Do you sincerely believe that the inefficiency and ineptitude of NEPA, Civil Service and most other Governement parastals is as a result of the staff ?

It is not.

A system is what you make it and not just a function of who works there.
The problem with NEPA and Civil Service transmits from the inefficiency of Government because they are government entities.
Privatise NEPA and you will see it transform overnight to an efficient organisation.
Change the government and give us a sincere and effective governement and you will see efficiency in the Civil Service

If the head of the Civil Service Dept will come early to work, stay till close of the day, do his bit as a leader and insist that the right thing be done without corruption, who is that clerk or senior office that will refuse to perform ?

But when the "Oga" with all his political connections does not get to the office until past 11 in the morning, leaves the office to chase contracts and political associations by 2pm and collects all the bribes imaginable and unimaginable while helping himself to the financial allocation of his department, leaving nothing for the job to be done, is it any surprising that the staff working under him do the same and we see inefficiency being perpetrated all over the Civil Services ?

Sacking all the civil servants in Nigeria will never improve the system.
What will improve the system is to have an effective governement in place and privatise organisations that governement has not business controlling

From the highest minister to the lowest toilet cleaner, Nigerian civil servants are corrupt to their bone marrows. People have become so used to corruption that even if 'oga' wants to do things in a constructive manner, the people working under him won't cooperate. That is why the government can't make any progress with NEPA and NITEL.

If you are involved in business, your employees will be constantly looking for ways to cheat you. The nation is sick!

seun's kinda right. u all oughta go have somtin doing with those guys at the nigerian civil service especially the ministries be4 u start concluding on how fair or not it is for 'em getting laid off.

the whole system's so faulty and its ridden through and through with corruption and greed. lotssa gees are so lacadaisical back home yet the same folks come over to u.k and work their butts off at Macs' here, its really unfair to us all and the future of the yet unborn kids and the prospects of the corporate entity called 9ija itself.

maybe its cos the average dont know talkless believe in the nigerian dream [i might even start a new post on that] but the issue is that we dont have too many pple doing much for the country and majority of the non-performers are in the civil service.

the nigerian govt aint without blame too cos in the history of national government, we've created quite a record for ourselves as having one that consistently fails to translate its policies on paper to useful actions for the good of its pple and we call that freak gene the "nigerian factor" as though it were a thing to be proud of and not the generic curse that it is. the govt demonstrates so much thotlessness u laff rgiht out loud atimes at the progress they say they are making.

Shouldnt they have thot of a scheme that would empower retirees to set themselves up doing one thing or the other at the end of their service years through which they would be trained and later assisted on cottage/SME business levels?, [even had a cousin who worked with NAPEP at national level and submitted a proposal like that to them but guess what, they buried it!!! ]

Sack in Civil Service or whreva is rlly not a big deal.

Do you know how many jobs have been destroyed by NEPA alone? All the businesses closed down?

If you sack incompetent people, and you replace them with competent people, you create prosperity for everybody. You are loking about the 0.01% of jobs that will be "destroyed". What about the 50% that will be created?

A common mistake we make is making judgements based on what we can see directly (small unemployment today) and not considering what we can't see directly (massive employment tommorrow!).

If the economy is developed such that one job alone can support an entire family because everything works as it should, wouldn't that be lovely? Employment is not the goal of society; it is just a means to an end: prosperity.

what are we talking about? is it the civil servant that were responsible for the ID card scam? or the defense scam or the police scam. The problem is at the top. Sacking the civil servants if its to make the government efficient then it should be cancelled because it won't fly.

This makes no sense to me.

- Any civil servant that is not needed for the government to function should be sacked as soon as possible.
- Any civil servant that is an enemy of progress should be sacked as soon as possible, regardless of seniority.

The lord will provide for our needs. Federal Government should provide more jobs for University / Polytechnic Graduate.
