As Nigeria clocks 48 years today, how will you evaluate the way Nigerians use or embrace Internet Applications in our daily lives. Also what can be done? Happy Independence Day everyone |

Its safe to say Nigeria is just at the start of the web lifestyle development cycle from all intents. The web lifestyle basically is about connectivity and the power of information everywhere and in everything. It can be said that our stunted development in terms of web development/application is as a result of the huge decay of supporting infrastructure from which this field grows. We are talking about such issues as:
[li]Absence of steady source of Mains power[/li] [li]High cost of Internet connectivity, which ironically is delivered in most cases in spurts and burst and branded as broadband![/li] [li]Lack of a decent database for national identification purposes (The national id card was a ray of hope but alas, ![]() [li]A poor support structure for grooming human resources[/li] Should i go on?
As we begin to overcome these obstacles there is bound to be an acceleration in the development process and a geometric increase in usage of the developed applications, as more and more Nigerians begin to wake up to the potentials this technology offers. Personally i believe that the power of the web and the ingenuity of the brilliant minds in this great nation is about to change the way a lot of things happen in this nation, and thats just the starting point, As many as believed in Him HE gave the power to become the Sons of GOD, Accept Christ today, the next moment may be too late! |

I think we are growing relatively fast. But the benefit of using the Internet has only been tapped by few (compare to the entire population). There is need for computer Internet applications to be integrated into our school curriculum so that Nigerians will learn, even at kindergartens. Yes i agree with you light, quality connectivity and cost needs to be very affordable so that everyone can have and use it. |

And for Nigerian Image? A lot of serious work is needed. Nigerians should spend their energy on legitimate things. With the Internet, once you are doing something valuable, you will make a fortune in no time. But rather our people want to buy a car with just a single transaction. See the paypal, clickbank and others are treating us. And our financial institution need to unified online payment system instead fragments that achieves less. |

To me, the key is a very, very simple one. So simple, it's scary ![]() How many cyber cafes have you seen out of commission just because they can't afford the high costs associated with running a generator to keep the computers running? How many times have you been chatting with someone and they say, "sorry, my battery is dying and I have no light to charge it back up?" Again, so simple and basic, yet so basic it's scary. I won't even go into such areas as, "how do you expect someone who can barely afford money for a decent meal for his family to even fantasize about surfing the net?" That's a whole 'nother topic. Let's start with the basics, the very foundation of it all - electricity. Without this, I am afraid we will be a crawling baby for a loooooong time. From 100% electricity, all else will flow. I will say this though - given how bad it is back there, I totally respect what the Nigerian developer has accomplished, given the limited resources. That is to be respected and given proper due, no matter what. |

Electricity In Nigeria should be treated in segments. By this I mean regional, cities and communities. Work should speed up on the Independent Power Plants. They should stop politicking with it. |

However it is to be treated, the key is that it be treated, period!! I will leave implementation for the experts. Lack of electricity is the beginning of our problems as far as the Nigerian economy in general is concerned. |

only God knows when power will be constant 'cos if you know what the "power brokers" are doing to forestall efforts at giving us 24hrs, you'll weep for us. Selfishness really; even sierra leoneans are thanking their president for giving them power constantly for one year ![]() |
