Na wa ooo!!! Imagine these same Nigerians grow back bones when they are dealt the same hand in foreign lands. I laugh at how many play the "E GO BETTER" card when it comes to them going out to fight for their right in Nigeria. But as soon as someone does the same to them in a foreign land, they shoot up as if they have been treated with respect all their lives. |

Kobojunkie: Why don't you go to Nigeria and show them back bone. Go their and help those that you think aren't fighting for their right fight for it. Donate some of your backbones to help people and then when they want to move abroad take your back bone away from them so people can step all over them because they are in a country that is not their home. Sort of like how people step all over you and like how the Native Americans stepped all over the Europeans. |

ehie007:.U arementioning hitting curroption to our ears as if the change should start from us.Pls can u drink any guood water from a polluted source??the answer is hell NO.yaradua sitting there today as president of Nigerian, that alone is a corruption in the highest order. If our shameless ex president could face BCC which is the whole word and accept that the presidential election wasnt free and fair, but wht can he do since we need democracy. Then the question is,is Nigeria so deperate about democracy that we should jst embrace any form of dirty election process?Even when is Obvious that is not free and fair?Listen that is where corruption started. And i will say that if u start anything the wrong way u will end it the wrong way. There is nothing like at the process or later. You can not be sitting on a mistake and say u r correcting it.the best way to correct a mistake is to step out it.Finish. |

@Debosky, Action! that's the word we need, 'right?. No nore speeches! speeches can come later! That is, after all is said and done or is it set and dawn? Nigerians, especially, our Leaders are great talkers. They sell their pitches to the poor masses when they nee the people's mandate badly, but when given the mandate to perform they are paralysed. They come with grand and often preposterous "visions" but fail to fix the nation they swore to get fixed when they get there. Talk is cheap! anyone can talk but not everyone can do. I Say swing to action every one of you leaders! I say let's all swing to action and make our nation truely great! |

Kobojunkie: 100% in agreement!!! H2O2: My parents cannot slap me for doing nothing. I must have done something wrong to warrant a slap. What wrong have you done to Nigeria to receive hard knuckled punches left, right and center from her government? |
Re: Happy 48th Birthday To My Country, Nigeria by carmelily: 8:59am On Oct 06, 2008 |
I apologise if you feel insulted, I mean no offence oh no, sholeyb, i do not feel insulted. i feel sympathetic. you must be outside the country for sure. you certainly do not realise how bad things are. ok, let's volunteer time and energy. ON EMPTY STOMACHS i have a friend who walks 30 minutes to church, to and fro (total=1 hour) every sunday because he can't afford the N30 bus fare. just once a week. Now that's the picture of 70% of Nigeria (you don't really need the UN to tell you that). It didn't cross your mind that the reason you could volunteer ur time and energy is because you are well-fed and happy and "high-flying"? can a psychologically-unbalanced person be productive? Do u realise how disillusioned and unmotivated the average Nigerian is? |

@ princekevo Oh really?please educate us on the achievment. if u think NIGERIA hasnt achieved enough, dat means u are not proud of urself. To me NIGERIA has achieved enough by simply having ambitious youths like me and u.If u are not happy wit ur country then change it to ur suite. Take dis as an advice overlook all the problems u think NIGERIA has and forge ahead, rather think of the future and the posibility of it changing. thanks |
Re: Happy 48th Birthday To My Country, Nigeria by Sholeyb: 1:06pm On Oct 06, 2008 |
Carmelily, This is my point exactly, if the 30% of Nigerians who have, start to help people like your friend, then she would be more productive and in turn help others, the others hopefully would in turn help others and the chain continues. It is a total misconception that people outside of the country are doing better, I have seen people in England who live in houses with no central heating and no hot water, people who live on the streets, the difference is people are always ready to help. HUMAN KINDNESS. We can moan all we like but WE have to start thinking differently and help ourselves. I know of a charitable organisation that helps accident victims on Lagos- Ibadan expressway, that is something useful, can they use their money and time for other things? CERTAINLY, but they have chosen to use their money and time for this project . It is a matter of choice. By the way I hour walk is not a big deal to me, it is good exercise. But I get the part that it is because of lack of finances. You have to learn to think positively, if your friends for instance thinks 'thank God that I still have legs to walk and I can exercise and keep in shape, she will start to feel less upset about the whole situation'. If we keep saying we are disillusioned, when will things change? There are worse nations and people survive, we HAVE TO, I do not mean to rubbish the sufferings of Nigerians, but no one will help us we do not help ourselves. Look around you, the world finances are collapsing, countries will now be thinking mainly and probabaly only about themselves. We owe it to ourselves to solve our problems. |
Re: Happy 48th Birthday To My Country, Nigeria by carmelily: 1:56pm On Oct 06, 2008 |
@sholeyb i didn't even imply that people outside are doing better. my deduction about your being outside the country was as a result of your seeming ignorance on issues. i'm not saying there's no sense in what you're suggesting, rather i think the idea is oversimplistic and patronising. granted, people should be willing to contribute something, anything towards developing the country. but exactly how many of that 30% have enough to spare? The 70% are the worst hit but not the only helpless ones. Part of that 30% can barely get by! Sholeyb: i hate to hear this thank-God-i'm-the-pinky-finger mantra. is there anything wrong with Nigerians living a decent life? why are we so complacent as a people? it's this "thank God i still have legs" mentality that's made us accept so much crap from the ruling class. it's an inborn Nigerian trait! complacency! Anyway, i'll just say you were ribbing me and did get the point about finances. and by the way, my friend's a "he". I still believe in Nigeria and i do think things are looking up but please let's be more focused in stamping out corruption and enthroning visionary governance. Those are our only 2 ways out, everything else will fall into place. in my opinion, pooling personal and communal resources is a good thing but mere tokenism. Anyway, thanks for being civil. i like you already |

shyman:Yah really i might be proud of myself and u might be proud of yourself also, but the questions is if u are a product of Nigeria am i?U know wht i mean by being a product of a country no jst been born there.Another question is if both was opportuned to even be product of Nigeria and we are both proud of ourselve ,are other citizen around you proud of themselves also.I can't be a man standing alone in the mist of all blind men when i know there is an opportunity for them to see.I rather prefer all of us having our sight all the same time. That is my cry brother i might be opportuned to leave Nigeria to become wht i am today,i might even be in Nigerian and am opportune to be wht i am today because my family could afford my education and because of my connections. Can every other citizens afford that?A country where the rich are getting Richer and the poor getting poorer is the country going forward or backward? For the solution you talk about we all Knows the solution and the way out,but greediness and selfishness that run in our blood will never let us put the solutions into practice.I really welcome u ideas but bro we need to tell ourselve the truth we are Nigerian in this forum i guess.Mind u no foriegner dare talk shit about my country where i am.lol |
