What I really meant is those two things should be added to the Nigerian Constitution because they are not there.

This Section does not provided much;

144. (1) The President or Vice-President shall cease to hold office, if -

(a) by a resolution passed by two-thirds majority of all the members of the executive council of the Federation it is declared that the President or Vice-President is incapable of discharging the functions of his office; and

(b) the declaration is verified, after such medical examination as may be necessary, by a medical panel established under subsection (4) of this section in its report to the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

(2) Where the medical panel certifies in the report that in its opinion the President or Vice-President is suffering from such infirmity of body or mind as renders him permanently incapable of discharging the functions of his office, a notice thereof signed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall be published in the Official Gazette of the Government of the Federation.

(3) The President or Vice-President shall cease to hold office as from the date of publication of the notice of the medical report pursuant to subsection (2) of this section.

(4) the medical panel to which this section relates shall be appointed by the President of the Senate, and shall comprise five medical practitioners in Nigeria:-

(a) one of whom shall be the personal physician of the holder of the office concerned; and

(b) four other medical practitioners who have, in the opinion of the President of the Senate, attained a high degree of eminence in the field of medicine relative to the nature of the examination to be conducted in accordance with the foregoing provisions.

(5) In this section, the reference to "executive council of the Federation" is a reference to the body of Ministers of the Government of the Federation, howsoever called, established by the President and charged with such responsibilities for the functions of government as the President may direct.

Fhemmmy:

Kobojunkie, there is no doubt that some illness will affect your judgement while you runing the affair of a nation, my guy when a body is sick or ill, it messaging to the brain will no way be normal, a man that has to be on medication can't stay in a meeting longer than when he "must" take his medication, so there is no way he will make a decision without being affected, take for example leader that has some kind of disease that stem cell cld be of help, what do u think will happen when he has to make a bill to support such?
please note, i wish him well

We are not talking of all kinds of illnesses that can definitely affect one's mind. We are speaking of this particular illness and this particular case. Multinational corporations have been run by men with life threatening diseases before. We have had rulers who were considered to be near death but lead their nation to victory and greater heights. We have the emperor of china, a man who was practically mentally insane but he left his mark on his people, a mark that still exists 10,000 years later. Is there proof that yar adua's medication makes it difficult for him to function ?? Can he not make decisions in between medications?? Is there information to support this?? If not, why are we discussing this?? We do not have such information, disclosure or not and so we should not make an issue out of it but focus on putting the blame on the man and not the illness.

I believe that we all have valid points here. Yes it is possible for a sick man to lead a nation to its promised land without any hitches and problems. It is also possible that a sick man may not be able to lead a nation to its promised land due to the 'nature' of his illness. This of course, depends on the level and type of sickness the man has. E.g. when some people have simple malaria, they are COMPLETELY KNOCKED OUT and cannot move or get out of bed. Meanwhile, there are others, who when they have the same simple malaria, go about their businesses as if nothing is wrong with them. I am not a doctor, but i suggest that the latter may have a higher tolerance to the illness.

Is Yar'adua in the latter group or not. That is what we should be looking at. Personally, i think that the illness is getting in his way and he is not able to go about his business effectively. Even worse, is the case that Jonathan, not being a northerner (or even someone from a 'major' tribe) will not be allowed to wield the power of the VP completely, due to the tribalistic nature of the Nigerian State.

I think we are in another dispensation of being experimented with. "Let us see how much this SICK president can do with the time he has" is the attitude i think the powers that be are assuming.

Check the Constitution of Nigeria

1. The President must be Physically and Mentally Fit [Failed]
2. A Qualified Person can contest from anywhere in Nigeria without Geographical or Ethnic Variation [Failed]

Is Nigeria working on a good Constitution?

there is no law in Nigeria, everybody does what he likes.
if you dont like somebody face you can shoot him in the presence of 10 witnesses and get away with it, provided you have money and know the right people.

Every single day in Nigeria the police kill atleast 5 innocent citizen for no good reason.

Forget constitution, it all rubbish. Nigeria is a completely lawless society.

How did you reach the conclusion on one? This is where discrimination starts. We make conclusions based on non factual information and then we push that as law and watch while we fall down the rabbit hole.

Tunde Bakare should pray for the president
Pray for the president to do what? Resign, die, live, continue as is, or heal miraculously? Tunde Bakare is not God, the president can and should pray for himself, he has the power to do so.
