I believe if the boys camped at Australia and prepared for that game with the late inclusion of Success and Nacho, we would have done better. Remember, the team despite most members from the German camp being in the squad were terrible in the first half against Korea. I believe as the game progresses, we will see the strength of the squad.

In the Brazilian game, it is not tactics or selection that made us lose it was because the players did not turn up. I believe it was the weather and I expect the boys to learn how to cope with the weatherweather fast.

gbosaa:

Like I said, the team that played in AYC Is different from this team. The nearest to the AY team was the team that played North Korea.

German trip to me wasn't enough to assess this team, mind you, iheanacho and success were not there. Even in their last game against nurnburg. The revelations were Godwin saviour with Muazaam knocking on the door, let's not forget the likes of Alfa.

In Brazil's game, two players who never trained or played competitive matches with the team walked in: iheanacho and success in hindsight were costly mistakes. The flying Eagles that we know should have won that match by 2-1. Their strength is the cohesion and ability to help each other. For those shouting Simon, he might be a good player but can he return and chase ball like bulbwa, Godwin? Can return just in time to help Musa who likes to bomb forward and supply passes? The old flying Eagles's style of play gave him the chance to move forward like Cafu. The likes of idowu, nwobodo always return invade the opponents intercept and lunch counters.

I didn't see those in the first game. The laxity of the forwards in that game meant the the likes of Ifeanyi couldn't play confidently like we all know...well for those who know his qualities. It wasn't a surprise that the so called big boys were benched. Iheanacho is a good player no doubt, we saw what he did at Southampton and against Man U but I would still keep him on the bench and bring him in when he is needed in the second half.

The biggest problem this team has is the left back position followed by the goal keeping department,if this two areas can be fixed,no team would be able to widstnd us. Manu should try and convert a good defender to solve that problem,u don't have to be a lefty to be a very good left back. Manu should dig deep, that Mustapher guy is good but cannot be depended on against top opponents. In any case,God will help us to go pass the german huddle no matter how intimidating they may appear.
the dropped okon readily comes to mind. that guy is a machine

WTF! shocked shocked How can people be this pessimistic? same sh!t Nigerians said at AFCON 2004 (vs Cameroon) and AFCON 2013 (vs CIV), yet what happened? We still won. Though I'm not yet convinced by the performance of these boys but i believe beating Hungary will help their morale and preparation for Germany. They both play similarly and their players have similar build.
The Eagles should watch out for the Number 9, quite skillful and deadly.
Their performance against Hungary will determine how far they can go, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed
they will qualify. nothing will stop them

You guys should check out the Argentina vs Austria highlights. The Argentines didnt win not because they were not good, but because the Austrian goalkeeper was not just brilliantly outstanding but also because luck was against them.

Just watched this highlights and I must say, this Argentine team is good. Sad they are going home. I wonder his someone can call this the worst Argentine youth team. Nice goal keeping from Casali but the better side did not go through.

I'm glad ypu have seen what most people chose not to see.
Argentina has quality, sad things went bad for them.

Diego Simeone's son would have scored up to two goals among others, I saw one of their goal bound shot being stopped by a fellow team mate.

I compared their misses with flying Eagles's against Brazil. Remember awoniyi's, he had two outstanding chances, one he rounded the keeper and the second one from the cross from Musa with the post wide open then mathew's shot which was a bit like Sokaris against Korea.

The boys will come good. We just need to stop believing that Awoniyi would score hat trick or the next opponent would be thrashed by 4 goals.

1-0 score line would do it, what matters is team work.

Tetteh: Ghana are very, very capable

Spirits were high after Ghana became the first of Africa's four representatives at the FIFA U-20 World Cup to book their place in the knockout stages.

Drawn into a challenging-looking Group B, the 2009 champions made it through with only an opening-game draw against Austria blemishing their record, having secured passage with a 1-0 win over Panama. The fact that pre-tournament favourites Argentina exited without a win to their name shows that the section was no formality for the West Africans.

Their 3-2 triumph over the Humberto Grondona's side, where they raced into a three-goal lead, remains the benchmark of their tournament so far for coach Sellas Tetteh. He was in buoyant mood as he led is team out of North Harbour Stadium and towards a second round tie in Wellington, though the former Black Stars caretaker boss admits they were somewhat shy of the same level of performance against the Central Americans.

“We didn't perform as well as we did against Argentina,” he told FIFA.com, “but we were still on top and we showed flashes of good play, so I think we deservedly made it into the next round. It's good [we managed to finish top] as the group was tough. It has seen three draws played and we ended up with seven points, so that clearly shows our capabilities. We'll represent the group very well.”

Challenges ahead
Ahead of group finale all four sides could have booked a place in the next round and Ghana's final game was an even encounter in Auckland. It was settled by a superb solo goal from Emmanuel Boateng, who pounced on a defensive error eight minutes from time, but great feet and a cool finish secured back-to-back wins. Panama rattled the underside of the bar and missed a penalty before the final whistle though, and Tetteh expects things only to get more difficult as they go on.

“We know as a tournament progresses it becomes tougher,” he the talkative coach explained, while clearly delighted by how events have panned out thus far. “We have prepared the boys to expect the challenges of the next stage, but I think we are capable of moving forward. We are very, very capable. We are going to work seriously towards that and we will see how it goes.”

One dark cloud ruining his sunny disposition was an injury to star midfielder and captain Clifford Aboagye, who was the tournament's third-best player as he helped the Black Satellites to a bronze medal at Turkey 2013 under Tetteh's tutelage. The coach was optimistic about his skipper's chance, but admitted only time will tell.

“He has a groin injury but we will see the gravity of it,” he said, having had to bring his side's key schemer off after the break. “We cannot say now as these are young kids who recover very fast, but all the same we have players who can fill in the gap.”

They await a meeting with the third-place side from one of groups A, C or D and Tetteh, who has the pedigree of having reached the quarter-finals at every visit to the U-20 World Cup, will be keen to not buck that trend at New Zealand 2015.

Senegal keep slender chances alive

A second-half fightback saw Senegal see off Qatar 2-1, though the result only leaves them in third in Group C, meaning they face an anxious wait on whether they reach the Round of 16.

Akram Afif opened the scoring for Felix Sanchez's side, but the West Africans – sleep walking for much of the first period – woke up after the break with stand-in captain Alassane Sylla and Moussa Kone earning them a lifeline.

Both sides found their chances of progression limited purely to clinching three points, though Qatar only had hope of a best third-place finish, while Senegal needed to find their scoring boots were they to earn a top two place, which had largely deserted them so far.

There was a worry Qatar hadn't packed theirs at all, having not troubled the net once since landing in New Zealand. With that in mind their hopes of getting anything out of the game looked slim after Senegal struck on two minutes, when Mamadou Thiam's backheel was fired superbly into the top corner by Alassane Sow, but the linesman's flag rightly ruled it out.

After starting out on the back foot, the Asian champions composed themselves and found what they had been waiting over 410 minutes of U-20 World Cup football for from the spot. Almoez Ali was dragged down and Afif, who had already threatened, confidently put away the penalty.

Considering what was at stake, neither side really looked to have much fight in them, but after the break Senegal really should have drawn level. A scuffed shot finds Mouhameth Sane three yards out, but he fired straight at Yousof Hassan.

Qatar then almost doubled their lead in bizarre circumstances. Senegal keeper Ibrahima Sy, who had been pushing further and further up the field was caught out by a long punt by his opposite number. Having been beaten by the bounce he had to think fast and head the ball back into his area while under pressure from Ali.

Senegal turned up the pressure and, after coming close, it told. Thiam had been one of the main instigators and pressure from him brought panic in the Qatar area. A poor clearance fell to Sylla and he expertly lobbed Hassan out of almost nothing.

Sprung into life, Sidy Sarr hit an impressive overhead kick wide before Kone headed off target too. But Kone hit the mark a minute later, capping off a flowing move to leave them needing just one to oust Colombia in second. It almost came from the boot of Mamadou Ndiaye, but his long-range thunderbolt was just beyond the post, and meant Senegal had to settle for third.

Folks please don't let us get ahead of ourselves. We still have the Hungary match to play and get a result from. It is talk like this that makes the players start under-rating opponents. This is what happened at France '98 when Super Eagles players and fans were already dreaming of a Nig vs Brazil Q-final forgetting that their second round opponents, Denmark, were no pushovers. The result was a world class spanking!

So, allow this team to take it one match at a time and their confidence, team play and results will get better as the tournament progresses.

I still believe in this team. #SoarFlyingEagles

Portugal stay perfect, Colombia sneak through

Colombia have sneaked through to the last 16 at New Zealand 2015 on goal difference after a 3-1 defeat to Portugal that maintains the Europeans' flawless record thus far. Helio Sousa's side were deserved and comprehensive winners in a match that underlined their credentials as genuine title contenders.

The first half was a disappointingly low-key affair but there were a couple of moments of genuine quality, most notably when Nuno Santos gave the Europeans a third-minute lead. It was the latest superb free-kick in a tournament crammed full of them, with the Portugal No11 adapting to a position just outside the box with a ferocious left-foot drive around the wall and high into the Colombian net.

Los Cafateros' first decent effort, 27 minutes later, also came from a dead ball. Joao Rodriguez was the man responsible on this occasion, curling a 30-yard effort up and over the wall only to see the ball drop just a few inches wide of the left-hand post.

Portugal remained in control of the match, though, and it was no surprise when they went two ahead nine minutes into the second half. The goal came from the penalty spot, and the award was inevitable after goalkeeper Alvaro Montero rushed from his goal to crash wildly into Andre Silva. The Portugal No9 dusted himself down to assume responsibility and coolly sent the keeper the wrong way, side-footing low into the right-hand corner.

Silva has been one of the stars of Portugal's campaign thus far and on 67 minutes he doubled his tally with third goal of the tournament. Again, Montero did not cover himself in glory, racing from his line only to completely miss Nuno Santos's teasing cross from the left. Silva, though, deserved great credit for directing a looping header back towards goal so accurate that even Davinson Sanchez, covering on the line, could not prevent it dropping in.

The only disappointment for Portugal on an otherwise perfect afternoon was the blemish applied to their erstwhile perfect defensive record. That came in the shape of an ultimately crucial consolation goal for Colombia, with Jarlan Barrera threading a pass through for Santos Borre to pick his spot in the bottom corner with a precise left-foot finish. First of all, it is very funny for you to think players like Enaholo and Awoniyi will acclimatize in three weeks. Even if they were in Auckland. During the Hungary Brazil match, some Brazilians were wrapped in blankets.

Whoever selected Germany as the camp venue and said it is the same weather needs to go back to primary school. So he can learn temperature difference.

Frankfurt Germany's temperature today = 72°F
Auckland New Zealand's temperature today = 50°F

The gap is too much especially for players coming from Lagos Nigeria = 77°F.

Those that camped at Sydney Australia got it right. Temperature = 52°F

Going by ur figures , temperature of Germany ,Australia and Lagos , the diff btw Germany and Lagos is just about 5 degree Fahrenheit , meaning that Lagos is hotter than Germany , for someone coming from a hot region , it is an advantage . Also considering d temperature of newzealand which is about 52 degree Fahrenheit , meaning d place is more colder . Looking at it from the sport man point of view , they only need extra training to accustom their body to d weather , which is additional training . And advantage of this weather will not make them get tired on time . So bro . I will not take the weather acclimatization as an excuse for failure ...

As things stand, we cannot afford to lose our match against Hungary. The slots for best 3rd best placed teams are keenly contested for.

As for those clamouring for a draw, have it in mind that we are made to win. He that aims at the stars will shoot higher than he that aims at the tree

Serbia seal top spot, Mexico sent home

Serbia reached the New Zealand 2015 Round of 16 after a 2-1 win over secured top spot in Group D, while sent the Central Americans home.

A goal right from the off by Nemanja Maksimovic put the Europeans on the front foot, before a stunning Andrija Zivkovic free-kick set up a fourth game of the tournament in Dunedin for Veljko Paunovic's side.

The group couldn't have been more finely poised, with all four sides locked on three points, though Serbia began with their noses in front and Mexico just behind on account of a single goal for and against. A win for either guaranteed progression, though a draw for Serbia was enough – which would have left Mexico hoping for a win in the group's other game.

Kick off wasn't even two minutes gone when Mexico's position became even more precarious, conceding a goal that will have infuriated coach Sergio Almaguer. A long throw into the area found the head of Sergei Milinkovic at the byline with El Tri's defence napping. He flicked across the box for Maksimovic to nod in an ultimately simple but very cleverly worked opener.

Concentration looked to be hampering the CONCACAF champions' chances in the early stages, with passes going astray and lapses in judgement leading to a disjointed early spell for them. However, Orbelin Pineda looked perfectly focussed when he watched the ball drop out of the sky and caught it sweetly, but Predrag Rajkovic smartly saved low to his left.

Chances were hard to come by though, with Serbia happy to soak up the Mexican pressure and strike on the break, with a point guaranteeing a top two spot. On one of their reactive forays forward Zivkovic almost capitalised on another long throw, but he only had to wait two minutes before taking advantage of a more traditional dead ball situation. In a tournament of fantastic free-kicks, he struck another beauty, curling into the top left corner from 25 yards.

Captain Erick Gutierrez looked to lead by example when his shot from similar range stung the palms of Rajkovic as unsurprisingly came out with added vigour. The keeper proved to be a one-man spanner in their works as he proceeded to make great stops from substitute Alejandro Diaz and then Gutierrez at his near post.

Another sub in Luis Marquez almost halved the deficit in some style, volleying spectacularly across goal, before he fed Gutierrez to shoot wide from the edge of the area.

When David Silva first joined Man City, it took him time to adjust to the English Weather. Reyes never adjusted to the weather and left Arsenal. Talk less of boys moving from Germany to Freezing conditions.

When Man City faced Dynamo Kiev of Ukraine, Mancini pulled Silva out early because he could not cope with the condition.

So how do you expect them to get used to the condition in few days? When the report of their trip to Germany came out, did you not read that they are going to a place of similar conditions? The camp location was wrong. There is no way you can spin it. It is not an excuse for failure. I am pointing out why the Super Flying Eagles had a slow start in the competition.

Draw takes Mali, Uruguay through

Mali and Uruguay have qualified for the Round of 16 after a 1-1 draw that left them facing the drawing of lots to decide which of the two finishes second in Group D*. That draw will take place in Auckland shortly after the sides were left with identical points and goal tallies, Serbia having secured top spot with a 2-0 win over Mexico.

The 'loser' of this drawing of lots will advance in any case as one of the best third-placed teams, and the fact that a draw was enough for both was evident in the sides' safety-first approach. It was certainly not a match that will live long in the memory, with chances in extremely short supply and neither team willing to commit numbers to attack.

Uruguay's 17th-minute opener came completely out of the blue and was a tribute to the intelligence of Franco Acosta. Mali had made a hash of clearing the ball out of defence and when Ramiro Guerra looped a header back into the area, Acosta - unmarked, onside but with his back to goal - applied the most delicate of glancing touches to deflect it past the keeper.

Mali responded and might have drawn level on a couple of occasions, first when Aboubacar Doumbia was off target with a powerful cross-cum-shot and then when Falaye Sacko's curling effort was held by the impressive Gaston Guruceaga. However, as half-time neared, Guruceaga was involved in the incident that led to parity being restored when he was penalised for handling a back-pass.

Uruguay protested the award but Mali made sure to take full advantage, with Adama Traore taking possession of the indirect free-kick and curling a powerful left-foot shot into the bottom corner from 16 yards.

That set up the result that both teams needed and, in truth, the second half - a complete non-event in terms of goalscoring chances - showed that. Uruguay and Mali can now both look forward to the last 16, with an update on the final group rankings to be provided soon on FIFA.com.

* The drawing of lots, conducted in Auckland and witnessed by both teams via a live video link, has left Uruguay in second and Mali in third. Both teams advance to the last 16.

I am not even bothered about the goals as I am bothered about the team not stringing in correct passing combination. We are not witnessing the breathtaking team work play we are used to from the Super Flying Eagles.

Many expected them to hit the ground running and many were disappointed with their performance against Brazil because the team we know can beat this Brazilains comfortably.

I am optimistic they will come good but such terrible arrangement for Camping by the NFF was woeful. It should never happen again. It was as bad as them staying at Abuja in preparation for a competition in a freezing climate condition.

Ain't Chelsea. Been a United Fan since 1997. True, Barcelona plays attacking football. But it's d way they defend that has been key. Quite unconventional. They defend with the ball (The only team that does this. They keep the ball so well that opponents see so little of it. If u don't have the ball u can't bite) and they defend without the ball (when they do lose possession they press aggressively high up the pitch often in packs of 2's or 3's blocking the spaces between the opposition's players limiting space and time to think thereby forcing errors from the opposition)
Lol! We are both supporting the same Club in Manchester United grin grin grin
