Moussa Kone, Diallo join goals race

Senegal’s Moussa Kone and Alhassane Diallo from Mali have joined the race for the goal king of the 2015 AYC after they each scored their second goal of the competition on Thursday.

Kone scored a brace in Thursday’s semifinal against Mali to open his goals account at Senegal 2015, while Diallo was also on target for Mali on the day after he got the winner in a group game against South Africa.

However, Flying Eagles captain and defender Musa Mohammed remains the leading goal scorer of Senegal 2015 with four goals.

The Nigeria captain has scored all four goals from the penalty spot.

He is closely followed by compatriot Taiwo Awoniyi, who has scored three goals.

Other players who are in contention for the golden boot at the competition which will end on Sunday are Senegal’s Sidy Sarr and Ibrahim Wadji, who are all on three goals each and have a game to play.

Congolese forward Sylvester M’boussy has three goals but his country have been eliminated from the competition.

Nigeria face Senegal in African Youth Championship final
Coach Manu Garba’s side will slug it out with the hosts for their seventh trophy in Sunday's African U20 Championship final

Nigeria U20 team will face hosts Senegal in the final of the 2015 African Youth Championship billed for the Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor, Dakar on Sunday. The Flying Eagles dimmed the Black Satellites 2-0 in the first semi final while Senegal upstaged pre tournament favorites Mali 2-1 in a thrilling last four encounter on Thursday.

A brace from Moussa Kone got Les Lionceaux past the Eaglets whose consolatory strike was gotten by Alassane Diallo.

Manu Garba’s side had defeated the hosts 3-1 in the competition’s opening game with Taiwo Awoniyi netting a double. Ghana will face Mali in the third place match billed for the same Stadium.

It was the first time a Senegalese team had reached the final of a major continental championship since 2002 Africa Cup of Nations in Mali, where the Teranga Lions lost to Cameroon on penalties.

I recalled vividly how we lost the U17 world cup final against Switzerland in 2007..
It all boiled down to personal glory between Stanley Okoro and Emmanuel Sani on who will emerge as the highest goal scorer. The U20 should learn from that singular mistake..

They should play as a Team..
T-together
E-each
A-achieve
M-more..

Wishing them a resounding victory against Senegal..

The Flying Eagles will resume training Friday evening after they took a break on Thursday.

They visited several tourists’ attractions in Dakar on Thursday including the imposing African renaissance monument.

They also watched hosts Senegal beat Mali 2-1 in a keenly fought semifinal before they attended a dinner in their honour which was hosted by the Nigerian embassy in Senegal.

The Nigeria U20s will train at the BIMA training pitch from 4.30pm, which is 5.30pm in Nigeria.

They will also train on Saturday morning ahead of the AYC final the following day.

AYC MVP: Sidy Sarr rivals Awoniyi

Senegal’s Sidy Sarr is now Taiwo Awoniyi’s main rival for the Most Valuable Player of the 2015 African Youth Championship after he scooped his second MVP award.

Sarr was picked by CAF as the best player in Thursday’s semifinal against Mali to become only the second player to be so recognised after Flying Eagles striker Awoniyi was adjudged the best performer in Nigeria’s first two group games against Senegal and Congo.

Interestingly, both Awoniyi and Sarr are also neck-and-neck in the race for the AYC goal king award as they have both scored three goals each.

The Mbour Petite Cote midfielder has been on superb form and will be remembered for scoring the last-gasp winner against Congo which qualified the host country to the semifinals of the competition.

The player who wears the Senegal number eight shirt also scored his team’s goal in the opening day 3-1 loss to Nigeria.

Koto warns Nigeria ahead of AYC final showdown

Senegal coach Joseph Koto says their AYC final clash with Nigeria will be the opportunity to show who the best really are.

The tournament’s hosts booked their spot in the last 2 for the first time ever, with a 2-1 win over Mali on Thursday evening.

Moussa Koné put Senegal ahead less than a minute from kick-off, before scoring the winner with ten minutes to go after Mali managed to pull back a very early equaliser through Alassane Diallo.

Defeated 1-3 by the Flying Eagles in the competition’s opener, the young Lions are now determined to prove that the severe scoreline was not a true reflection of the quality gap between the two sides.

“My wish was that we could face Nigeria. Our first meeting left a feeling of unfinished business. With this final, we will know who the best are,” Koto said following their victory over Mali.

“We will prepare for the final with serenity, and we are going to see a different game between the two teams.

“A final is a festive event, and I call upon the fans to come out in force to support the boys so we can lift our first ever continental trophy.”

The game will kick off at the Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium on Sunday at 21h30 CAT.

Mali coach going home disappointed

Mali will not progress to the final of the 2015 African U-20 Championship after they were knocked out by host nation Senegal in the semi-final on Thursday in Dakar.

However, the junior Eagles still have the chance to win a medal, as they lock horns with Ghana in the third place match on Saturday. But coach Fanyeri Diarra is not enthusiastic. To him it is all over for Mali.

“My objective was not to win the third place match but the trophy. We’ve been working very hard and our hopes were high. But it’s all over. I’m very disappointed going home without the cup,” Diarra said.

“I don’t have to blame my players. They did their best, but the final result did not favour us. We had lots of chances but couldn’t convert them.”

The coach refused to comment on his team’s goal which was disallowed by the referee to avoid tensions, according him. Senegal coach also declined to offer a word on the referee’s decision which many pundits believe was wrong.

Mali are the surprise package of the tournament. They won all three group matches, claiming the highest point, nine, from the group stage.

They will meet Ghana in the third place match on Saturday in Dakar. Both teams faced-off in Group B final match day, with the Eagles winning 1-0.

Dike warns F/Eagles ahead AYC finale

Former Golden Eaglets head coach, Alphonsus Dike has told Flying Eagles that the watchword is 100 percent concentration against hosts, Senegal.

The six-time African champions will confront West African opposite, Young Lions of Teranga in Sunday’s final of the 2015 Orange African Under-20 Championship in Senegal at the Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium, Dakar.

Nigeria caged highly rated Black Satellites of Ghana 2-0 in the semifinals while hosts, Senegal stunned favourites, Mali 2-1 in same stage of the competition to pave the way for the grand finale of the biennial football showpiece.

Dike said the only hindrance to Nigerians’ claim of their seventh title will be complacency in the final clash against Senegal.

“I believe the toughest threat to Flying Eagles winning the coveted African Youth Championship title is West African arch-rivals, Black Satellites of Ghana.

“Now that the Ghanaians are no more contestants to the throne the only factor that can deny the Nigerians the title is complacency against hosts, Senegal.

“So if I must warn the side the watchword is avoid complacency in its entirety while maintaining 100% concentration throughout the duration of the game.

“They must not even remember the fact that they’ve beaten same side in the group stage of the championship.

“Senegal will be all out to achieve revenge so I advice Eagles to come out in their very best colour to prove to doubters that their win against the hosts wasn’t a fluke.

“It’ll be a difficult game unlike the previous encounter but I’ve the confidence that Eagles will win the final tie at the end of the day,” said the former Enugu Rangers manager to supersport.com.

The semifinalists of the championship namely Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana and Mali have qualified to represent Africa at the upcoming Fifa Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand.

Barcelona attacking midfielder Boluwatife Balogun has changed his mind about wanting to represent the youth team of France in the short term after he was approached by their national team selectors earlier this month.

The 18 - year - old had explored the possibility of turning out for France, but has rejected the offer because the France Under 20s will not be taking part in this summer's Fifa Under 20 World Cup in New Zealand.

''I was contacted by France, like I said earlier, I was about giving them a yes,'' Boluwatife Balogun said to SL10.ng.

''The only problem making me want to change my mind is that France Under 20s didn't qualify for the World Cup in New Zealand.

''At this stage, I am still undecided about the national team to represent. All I want to do is to play football because I have passion for
it.

''I just need to be focused on club football for now maybe when the time is right for me I will decide.''

Boluwatife Balogun's dad believes he has a future with the Nigeria national team while his French mom has indicated that his prospects with France are brighter.

''My dad wants me to play for Nigeria while my mum wants me on France national team, '' the La Masia academy student added.

Born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, Balogun is fluent in Spanish and English, and has a passive understanding of Yoruba and French.

Flying Eagles weakness exposed - Kone

After qualifying to the final of the 2015 African U-20 Championship on Thursday, Senegal coach and players are turning their attention to Nigeria, who they will be meeting on Sunday.

Moussa Kone, who scored the junior Teranga Lions’ two goals against Mali in the semi-final, is upbeat he can repeat the same form against the Flying Eagles to hand the hosts the trophy.

“The awe of the Nigerian team is dissipating because we are beginning to see some of their weaknesses and we believe they are not unbeatable,” Kone told supersport.com on Thursday.

“Ours is a new team without exposure and experience unlike the Flying Eagles. They have the tradition of youth tournaments and have been very successful. However, I can tell you that they are not as powerful as the media describe them.

“What I think they possess and keep exploiting over their adversaries is experience. They know how to manage time, strength and even the space on the field. However, we have better physical condition and speed. If we can put those together on Sunday, Nigeria would go home with silver,” he said.

Kone claims that his team will alter the predictions once again for the final as they did with their victory over Mali.

“Many people were prediction and rooting for Mali. They wrote us off. They said were too soft to be able to overcome a strong side like Mali. But we proved it.

“Now, they are saying the same for Nigeria. We will also prove them wrong come Sunday,” he said.

France might have all the hype and history but the future belongs to the Nigerians. Balogun should not miss this great opportunity of playing in the greatest Super Eagles team. With names like Iwobi, Aluko, Moses, who will be the senior boys and Yahaya, Nacho, Nwobodo, Success, Awoniyi, Nwakali, Ndidi, Musa Mohammed, Kelechi Nwakali, and many more.

I hope Ibe plays for us too. The future Super Eagles team is A TEAM AFRICA WILL NEVER FORGET.

Balogun should fight to play for this U20 team.

Senegal can't stop Flying Eagles says Manu

Flying Eagles coach Manu Garba has declared hosts Senegal cannot stop his team from winning a seventh African Youth Championship on Sunday.

The Nigeria U20s beat Senegal 3-1 on the opening day of the tournament and so Sunday’s showdown will be a rematch.

“Senegal have done very well to recover from that opening day loss and get to the final, but we are ready for them, they cannot stop us,” said Manu.

“Even before we arrived Senegal we made it very clear that we want to go to the World Cup as African champions and now we are on course to achieving this target.

“Sunday’s match is the most important game we will play in Senegal. It is important for our careers as coaches and players and we will take this opportunity with both hands.”

The Flying Eagles have been unbeaten in this competition, winning three and drawing a game. They have also scored a total of 11 goals and conceded four.

On Friday, they trained at the French Military Barracks otherwise known as BIMA with all 21 squad players in attendance.

They will round up their preparations on Saturday morning at the same venue.

Kick-off time for Sunday’s epic final is 7.30pm, which is 8.30pm in Nigeria, at what is expected to be a filled 45,000-capacity Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium in Dakar.

I will score to beat Nigeria - Senegal's Kone

Senegal’s two-goal hero against Mali, Moussa Kone has vowed to score the goals that will sink favourites Nigeria in Sunday’s AYC final in Dakar.

Kone opened his goals account at the AYC with a brace to send hosts Senegal to a first-ever final at the expense of Mali on Thursday.

And he has now promised to wreck more havoc in a rematch between “Lionceaux” and the Flying Eagles after the Nigeria U20s won a group game between the two teams two weeks ago.

“I’m going to score again in the final to give the cup to Senegal,” predicted Kone.

“I have proved that I’m a goal scorer as it is very difficult for me to go three matches without scoring a goal. But even when I did not score, I was not discouraged. I waited for my time and it came against Mali.

“We are now in the final and the best is yet to come.”

Nigeria's Flying Eagles gun for glory

The Flying Eagles of Nigeria are set to win a seventh African Youth Championship crown at the expense of hosts Senegal on Sunday.

Kick-off time at the 45,000-capacity Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium in Dakar is 7.30pm local time or 8.30pm Nigerian time.

Sunday’s match will by the ninth time Nigeria will feature in the final of the AYC, while host country Senegal will be playing their first-ever final.

This game will be a rematch of the opening game of this competition which Nigeria won 3-1.

The Flying Eagles are aiming for a seventh AYC title having won it in 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2005 and 2011.

“We will not go back to Nigeria without the cup,” declared coach Manu Garba, who has kept faith with several players from the team he led to win the FIFA U17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates two years ago.

The Flying Eagles have been the toast of fans at Senegal 2015 – they are unbeaten in four matches and have scored the highest number of goals to average 2.75 goals a match.

Striker Taiwo Awoniyi, 17, has been one of the stars of this competition after grabbing three goals with the likes of skipper Musa Muhammed, Ifeanyi Matthew, Obinna Nwobodo and goalkeeper Joshua Enaholo also catching the eye.

However, Senegal, who will be cheered on by what is expected to be a sold-out crowd, cannot be discounted despite losing to their more illustrious opponents on the opening day.

They have shown remarkable character by bouncing back from that loss to reach their first-ever AYC final.

Third-choice goalkeeper Ibrahima Sy has impressed after he was thrust into the fray after his main rivals manned the post in the team’s first three games and he has vowed ‘Lionceaux’ will make a bigger history on Sunday.

“For the final, we will give everything to win the cup,” promised the Lorient of France youngster.

“It is destiny which has seen us face Nigeria again after they beat us in the opening match.

“It is not going to be an easy match, but personally I hope I’m picked again after all the hard work I have put in.”

Coach Joseph Koto blamed huge expectations for his team’s 3-1 loss to Nigeria two weeks ago.

“We were under a lot of pressure in the opening match and that was why we committed individual mistakes to gift Nigeria two early goals,” said the former Teranga Lions of Senegal coach.

“The final will be a feast and the so the fans should come out and support the team to win the first continental trophy for Senegal.”

Moses Simon Being Monitored By Bundesliga Powerhouses

SL10.ng understands that Gent striker, Moses Simon, is attracting huge interest from two Bundesliga powerhouses, according to sources close to the player.

Gent snapped up the pacy striker from AS Trencín in the January transfer window on a three-and-a-half year deal after lighting up the Slovak Super Liga.

In all likelihood, the 19-year-old could depart the Ghelamco Arena when the transfer window reopens.

The unnamed Bundesliga clubs have reportedly recently contacted Moses Simon's representative, Tony Harris, to sound him out a possible move to Germany.

Moses Simon has impressed Gent's power brokers since his arrival, and they are not prepared to part with the Nigeria youth international except the interested clubs from Germany meet their 20 million euros asking price.

Before agreeing a move to Gent, he had been courted by Tottenham Hotspur, ADO Den Haag, SC Heerenveen and an unnamed team in France.

Ghana, Mali settle for third place match

The third place match of the 2015 African U-20 Championship will take place on Saturday at the Sedar Senghor Stadium in Dakar, Senegal, between two tournament hopefuls, Ghana and Mali, who couldn’t make it to the final.

The junior Eagles of Mali unexpectedly became a team to beat at the tournament following their flawless run in the group stage. However, they were halted in the semi-finals by host team Senegal 2-1.

Mali coach Fanyeri Diarra was very disappointed at his team’s exit from the race to clinch gold. Their qualification for the 2015 Fifa U-20 World Cup in New Zealand seems not a sufficient compensation for the coach.

“We didn’t come here to play third place match or earn qualification to the junior World Cup. We had come for the trophy. We wanted to win this edition like our U17 team won theirs last month in Niger,” Diarra said in a post-match press conference.

If Diarra and his charges fail to cure the hangovers and emotions from their semi-final debacle, it could expose them to more suffering, this time at the hands of Ghana.

While facing the press after their final training session on Friday, Diarra said he would do his best against the Black Satellites, admitting that it would be difficult for his demoralised team.

Could Ghana exploit that?

They look livelier and more ambitious than the Malians. A third place title would put some smiles on their faces after they succumbed to Nigeria’s push 2-0 in the second semi-final.

Coach Sella Tetteh says Saturday’s third place match will open their preparations for the U-20 World Cup, which begins end of May.

“I was unable to repeat our 2009 victory on the continental scene, but that does not mean we cannot repeat what we did in the World Cup. We have to start preparing now,” he said.

The bronze medal meeting will be staging two teams with different spirit and motivation. Mali seem to be out of the competition and would be appearing for formality sake while Ghana are willing use it as groundwork for the New Zealand gathering.

The eventual outcome might not be used to judge their actual strength but life after the Senegal 2015.

Don't Come Out to Play - Nduka Ugbade Warns Senegal

Flying Eagles assistant coach Nduka Ugbade has warned that Senegal could suffer a bigger defeat on Sunday than they did on the opening day of the competition if they come out with the sole aim of revenge.

“If Senegal come out to play, the defeat could be bigger than the first time we clashed,” he said.

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will be gunning for a seventh African Youth Championship when they face hosts Senegal in Sunday night’s epic final in Dakar.

The Nigeria U20 team have won this continental tournament on six occasions – in 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2005 and 2011.

They have also lost two finals – in 1999 to hosts Ghana and in 2007 to hosts Congo.

To reach their ninth championship game, the team led by coach Manu Garba beat Senegal (3-1), Congo (4-1) and drew 2-2 with Cote d’Ivoire in the group phase.

They then edged past arch-rivals Ghana 2-0 in the semifinal.

Senegal’s ‘Lionceaux’, on the hand, have done very well to bounce back from an opening day loss to Nigeria to draw with Cote d’Ivoire 1-1, before they recorded a dramatic 4-3 win over Congo to qualify for their first-ever AYC semifinals.

Their previous two outings in this competition saw them crash out in the first round, in 1993 and 1995.

Coach Joseph Koto said that over the years Senegal have produced top quality players, but they are yet to win a major continental trophy and this could well be their biggest chance to do so.

“Senegal deserve a continental trophy because we have quality players, but somehow we have never always managed to win it,” said the former Senegal full international coach.

“Our main target was to qualify for the World Cup and we have achieved this. And now our next objective is victory in the final.”

He therefore called on the fans to come out in their numbers to cheer his team to an historic victory inside the 45,000-capacity Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium in Dakar.

“The final will be a feast and I want the fans to come out again to support the team because it is very important for us to win this tournament now.”

“We know what is at stake and we will give everything to win this final,” vowed skipper Musa Muhammed, who is the leading scorer in the competition with four goals.

The Flying Eagles have all 21 squad players available for selection after initial injury scare for midfielder Ifeanyi Matthew, which forced him to be rested for the final group game against Cote d’Ivoire.

Kick-off time is 7.30pm local time, which is 8.30pm in Nigeria.

Exclusive : Hamstring Injury Rules Chidera Ezeh Out Of AYC Final, Porto Starlet To Spend One Month On The Sidelines

According to leaks gathered by allnigeriasoccer.com’s editorial staff, Porto youth - teamer Chidera Ezeh has been ruled out of the African Youth Championship final between Nigeria and Senegal.

Contrary to malicious statements in the local media that he failed to convince in the first two matches, the reality is that Ezeh picked up a hamstring injury during training a day before the Flying Eagles tackled Ivory Coast.

And as a result, the River Lane Academy product was omitted from the squad that faced Ivory Coast plus sat out the semi - final tie against Ghana.

National Team medics have claimed that Chidera Ezeh suffered a minor tear, and will spend the next four weeks on the sidelines.

It is expected that Taiwo Awoniyi, who has notched three goals in Senegal, will lead the attack tomorrow.

Seyi Olofinjana Withholds 25,000 Euros Meant For Taiwo Awoniyi's Dad

Former Stoke City and Hull City midfielder Seyi Olofinjana has been charged as the main culprit behind the controversial preliminary contract Taiwo Awoniyi signed with Kalmar in May 2014.

The retired Nigeria international was sighted in Senegal, with hawking around the Flying Eagles striker to several European teams and agents, including Oliver Noah, being his mission at the African Youth Championship.

Olofinjana, the face behind Imperial Academy, is double - dealing after giving his word to Kalmar chiefs that he will deliver Taiwo Awoniyi to the Swedish club come August when he would have clocked 18, and become eligible to sign a professional contract.

The defensive midfielder recently wrote an email to Kalmar, asking the club to release additional funds to him to secure the signature of Taiwo Awoniyi.

Kalmar have already struck terms with Seyi Olofinjana by agreeing a 150,000 Euros fee with Imperial Academy for the Nigeria youth international, with the Odogbolu based side inserting a 45 percent sell on clause into the contract.

But as it stands the agreement is shaky as United Academy, who own the economic and sporting rights of Awoniyi, have written a petition to the Nigeria Football Federation, informing them that they have not cleared the player to any club/ academy at home and abroad.

The Allsvenskan side paid €25,000 as a scouting fee to the agents that brokered the deal, but they sacrificed it and transferred the money to Olofinjana to give to Taiwo Awoniyi's father.

But he held onto the money, and asked for more money from Kalmar, saying he needed money for his academy.

After signing a pre-contract last year, Kalmar equally paid money to Taiwo Awoniyi, provided him an apartment, and they got him a school as well to continue his education.

SL10 Tips Flying Eagles To Win Record 7th AYC

As the final of the 2015 African Youth Championship is set to get underway at the Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor by 8:30pm Nigerian Time on Sunday, SL10 reporter Ademetan Abayomi is gearing up for a fantastic game.

It's should be another 90 minutes of success for the Nigeria U20 side when they battle with hosts Senegal U20 in Dakar.

Despite the absence of more than 10 key players at the tournament, the Flying Eagles have demonstrated the quality in their ranks. Also, their game style has been effective.

Coach Manu Garba has proven to have enough intelligence to project his players into an effective system led by overlapping right-back Musa Muhammed and the strong attacking presence of Taiwo Awoniyi.

To my mind, it would be a real surprise if Nigeria, with their wonderful talents fail to win the cup. The six-time winners have so many young fellows already set for big moves abroad.

Having lost 3-1 to Nigeria in the group stage, Senegal will want to prove a point, but I think that will be very difficult considering the sleek passing game of the Flying Eagles.

Garba has the luxury of picking a fit squad, that have Obinna Nwobodo, Ifeanyi Matthew, Idowu Akinjide, Christian Pyagbara, including Chidera Ezeh while goalkeeper Joshua Enaholo will be full of confidence after a clean sheet in the semi final against the Black Satellites of Ghana.

Meanwhile, Senegal is a young team full of great talents. Their enthusiasm and desire have been commended by all.

Nigeria have a lot of technical high class players and after the disappointment of the 2013 edition they are very hungry for success.

Senegal have a well balanced team with just a few outstanding players but the chemistry is right too.

Nigeria were huge favourites coming into the tournament, and just having confidence and their success story during the 2015 League Management Company Invitational Tournament can inspire them to victory on Sunday.
