orimahspence: Hello orimahspence, During the visa interview, consular officers look at each application individually and consider professional, social, cultural, and other factors. In cases of younger applicants who may not have had an opportunity to form many ties, consular officers may look at the applicants specific intentions, family situations, and long-range plans and prospects within his or her country of residence. Each case is examined individually and is accorded every consideration under the law. You are welcome to reapply. Each application will be given a fresh look. Regards, AbujaNIV |

My husband was approved for his visa on July 2nd. The paper they gave says to pick up on this Friday. We can not reach the GSS/DHL to see if the visa is there. Should we trust the process and just go? I was told by friends that visa processing is still behind; how true is this? Are the visas two to three weeks behind? Thank you for your help! |

french96: Hello french96, No, paying your SEVIS fee does not mean you'll definitely get a visa. The fee is not for the visa itself. The fee is for the interview and the processing. Therefore, whether the visa is issued or not, that fee is used during the interview. Regards, AbujaNIV |

@abujaniv Dear VO, I applied for B1/B2 Visa with wife and kid earlier this year, with my wife visibly pregnant and we were denied though the interview didn't go well as i was very nervous and didn't answer all the questions fluently. Me my wife and my first child have a travel history! We are now a family of Four now as my wife gave birth to our second child 3 months ago and we are planning to reapply including our second child. Please VO is that a change in circumstance? Thanks for your prompt response in advance. |

Thanks for the response. The difference between my case and @divide us is that my husband is resident in the US hence the question of being treated as a potential immigrant when i declare this at the POE. Hello staa, You should check out what we just said to @DivideUs! Regards, AbujaNIV
|

abujaniv: Thanks Vo Your response goes a mile. My reservation however Is what I have read on many occasions here that it's advisable applicant re- apply 90 days after visa denial. As for me , I believe I have strong ties that merited a non - immigrant visa issuance , and my concience and intention did not negate the non - immigrant visa condition, may be I didn't explain my situation well to the consular. Now, Waiting for 90 days, my intention of going to state would have become forfited, i have nothing to attend to in the state outside that summit,If however I re- apply before 90 days, would my application be looked into afresh? Or the consular would just assumed my status (which she didn't consider before) have not change from the former and give me back my passport with another white sheet? |

Do you know the current visa processing times for Lagos? They told us 5 days, but I don't believe that information. The link you gave me isn't pulling his information at this time. Thank you for any help. |
Dear VO., Please I have a few questions that I need answers to. I currently have a valid B1/B2 visa issued in Nigeria that is going to expire next year. I've only visited the States once and I stayed only for a few days. I got married 8months ago to US Citizen who has been studying & living in Germany for about 8years now. We have no intention of relocating to the US. However, we would like to have our kids delivered in the US and also spend our annual vacation in the US. Yes she does not need a visa but sadly I do and my question is how do I convinced the visa officer because am a non-immigrant visa applicant married to a U.S. Citizen? |
Re: U.S. Non-immigrant Visas: We’re Listening by abujaniv: 7:29am On Jul 10, 2015 |
orimahspence: Orimahspence, As has already been mentioned - consular officers don't take a look at you and decide that you won't go, and no decision is predetermined. The 90-day wait time is a suggestion to discourage people who truly would not otherwise qualify from repeatedly re-applying and wasting both their time and money. Each time you go to an interview, your case will be looked at again. It may simply be the case that you did not express your intent as clearly as you thought you did - this is just human nature. If you do reapply, be ver clear about the assignment you are being sent for and the timelineline, you should also be prepared to discuss your employment as a journalist - I visas are a little bit different from other classes and it wouldn't hurt to to bring a little bit of documentation! |
Re: U.S. Non-immigrant Visas: We’re Listening by abujaniv: 8:07am On Jul 10, 2015 |
Sakasaka: Sakasaka, I feel like we have been over this a few times already. We are not going to give you specific advice on what you should say, but if you have been living and studying with your wife in Germany for over 8 years, then maybe that is what you should be trying to say and prove. It's not a trick, it's a visa interview. |

Good afternoon
please...I m making this inquiry on behalf of my friend
..he is really worried.....he applied for a US visa last year
but he was denied....then he reapplied this year......
he tried filling a new DS-160 form with the same system
and it automatically retrieved his previous information....
and his information is still the same....it need not be
altered....so he clicked submit and used it to book for an
appointment this year....
he has got few days to go for his interview only to find out
that the date of completion wasn't updated and his
barcodes remained the same...
meaning its as good as using the old DS-160.......which I
feel he can't use more than once......
please what should he do......there is no mistake in his
information provided....but only the barcode and date of
completion remained the same as that of last year..
please help.....he has got only few days to his
appointment...
thanks |

Hi VO i hope you can answer my question genuinely. I am a senior officer in a bank and i and my wife intend to apply for a visiting Visa before the year runs out on a virgin passports. I have never travelled out of Nigeria. I have a family of four and live in my own house. Is it true that i will be denied a visa because its a virgin passport? What are my chances that i wont be denied. When applying what are the necessary documents that i must come along with? Will be glad if you can provide more information. Regards. |

abujaniv: Dear VO, Please can you mention what exactly are the things you need to know to answer my question? The immigration officers mentioned a few things 1. That the point of entry (state) i indicated in my interview was different from the one i used 2. I was travelling too heavy like i was relocating Basically they said to them i mispresented myself that i lied and they do not believe that i am going to the USA just to visit. That i did not have enough funds on me and i didnt have a return ticket including several other things they pointed out including not having any physical proofs or documentation (i was willing to show them but they said i should have printed them out). Honestly i was innocently visiting and because i did not have any intentions of breaking any law i would say i was non-challant about all the things they mentioned. I will just like to know the consequences and corrective measures to situations like this? Thank you for your time |

Is there anything called application for visa review for a denied B1/B2 tourist visa application for U.S. Heard from 2 different immigration Lawyers that though appeal is not allowed for B1/B2 visa but a request letter could be forwarded for a review after a visa applicant is not approved for the visa application. |

Hmmmm....interesting read here. I am an entrepreneur building a technology company. I am quite young (28 yrs) and married. I worked before i resigned to pursue my dream of building this business. And I want to go to the states to understudy the operations of a company I would love to partner with. Real facts: I do not have much money in my account even though I can sponspor the trip plus 2 weeks stay comfortably. Dont worry about hotels, i will use airbnb and share accommodation. 2. I stammer. I guess the interviewer will think im not truthful. 3. I dont have the money to waste on trial, so i guess i want it to succeed. 4. I come across as a comedian most times so you will think I am not serious. Well, I am serious enough to have 4 employees. It appears young people like me are up against the entire federal power of the US as regards visa. I intend aplly by november......by then i would have reduced the money in my account further....i guess thats added good news. What do you advise ( even though i know you do not advise)? Should I come to US or look for an alternative partner in China, to further empower the chinese economy over the US economy? No hurt intended, i am very serious while having fun. God bless USA but only after God has finished blessing Nigeria more. Thanks for your time. 1 Like |

Dear VO, Thanks for providing this platform. I have previously applied 10 years ago (on my old passport) for F-1 visa but was denied. At the time, there was error on the year I was born. I have since corrected the error as I have a new passport now and travelled to different countries. I would like to reapply for a visa and want to know if the error will affect my next application. What document do I need to bring? Please advise. |

Dear VO, Thanks for the helpful explanations you offer on Nairaland. Please I need your advice in my situation: I am a US citizen (by birth) but live and work in Nigeria. Last year my wife applied for a US tourist visa (B2) and scheduled her interview for April 14, 2014. I had a conference to attend in Canada with my wife in May 2014 and so she also applied for a Canadian visa on March 19, 2014. However, the Canadian embassy the not review her application till May 2, 2014 during which time her passport was held by the embassy. Unfortunately we did not reschedule the US visa interview early enough and so when we tried to do so, we got a message that the interview could no longer be rescheduled. Now there is this other conference which my wife and I were to attend in July 2015 and so she reapplied for a non-immigrant visa (B1) and filled a new DS-160. Her interview was scheduled for January 21, 2015. Unknown to us, the system picked up the DS-160 for the visa application which she submitted last year. We discovered this on January 20, less than 24 hours to her interview on January 21. Again it was not possible to correct the error and she was denied the visa, most probably because the purpose of her trip (conference) was different from what was contained in the DS-160 linked to her application. Being a US citizen, I decided to apply for an immigrant visa for my spouse. Somewhere along the process, it has become obvious that my wife would likely not be granted an immigrant visa since I am not domiciled in the US. This where I need your advice - if my spouse applies for a non-immigrant visa in future, would the fact that I have filed an immigrant petition for her behalf prevent her from getting a visa? We just need a need visa that would enable her accompany me on trips because I do travel to the US from time to time. Thanks in anticipation. 1 Like |

Dear VO, I have an aunt who wishes to travel to the US to visit her son and wife who left this country through DV lottery... 3yrs ago... Her son in the US is writing to the embassy as regards sponsoring the mother for her visit. His mother was denied the B1/B2 visa sometime in 2002. But she has never applied again the But she has travel to other country before. Will the letter of sponsorship given by her son n daughter inlaw be of any assistance during the interview since she is applying for b1/b2 visit to them over there. Thanks. |

Dear VO, I ran into this thread and i have a question that i have been looking for who to ask all these while. I applied for a Student Visa in 2012 and was granted and I differed my admission till July 2013 of which i travelled and i was stopped at the point of entry by the Homeland Office and was asked questions and was made to know that the agency that processed my Visa for me used wrong information in applying for a Visa for me.I was given an option to pay $250,000 to gain access but since i couldn't afford it i took the option to return back to my home country (Nigeria) but before i left,I was given a 5 years Ban and it would make 2 yrs by August 2015 that i was refused entry. My question is how do i know when my US Entry Ban is over? How do i know the status of my US Entry Ban? Would and i hope this wont affect me when next i want to apply for a US Visa even after my Ban? Please i need answer on this as i dont know the status of my US Entry Refusal Ban as of now...Thank you. |

Hello VO I applied for a K1 visa in 2007, but was denied. Reason given was the officer thinks its a sham. To be honest it was not. I and my partner brokeup as the distance would not allow things work between us. We have since move on (i am married now). I applied for a B1/B2 visa feb 2015 from the United kingdom where i am presently studying for an MSc but was denied reason, because of the previous K1 denial. Please how do i sort this out and get my records right. Regards |

Hello VO, I and my wife applied for a B1/B2 VISA in June 2012,few months later my wife became pregnant and we decided that we have the baby in the US,in November we contacted a hospital/Doctor in the US ,paid all the required fees. Then in we traveled to the US December at the POI we told the immigration officer that we were there to have our baby,we were taken to a room where we were kept for close to 45minutes where series of questions were been asked, hospital was contacted and information confirmed and we were later cleared in.we had our baby paid all outstanding fees and equally obtained clearance letter from the Hospital. Last year we renewed out VISAS and we intend to have our next baby in the US ,same hospital/doctor contacted and required fees paid, but the thought of the last experience is causing some panic in me and wife.what's your advice?
