The soldiers were said to be protesting the death of their colleague who was knocked down by a BRT bus in Ikorodu Road, a busy thoroughfare in Lagos

The trouble started when there were reports that a soldier was hit while riding a motorcycle, and died at the scene. In a repeat of what is fast becoming a norm in Lagos, irate soldiers attacked Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) buses on Ikorodu Road this morning.

Some of the buses were vandalised and set on fire by the soldiers, with about twenty that were damaged. Transit through the Palmgrove area of Ikorodu road was non-existent and commuters had to resort to trekking to their destinations, while some also joined after abandoning their vehicles. Some people in the area were also beaten up mercilessly by the soldiers.

It was later reported that the Commanding officer in charge of soldiers in the area had spoken to them and placated the soldiers enough for them to withdraw from the scene. Unfortunately, the damage and the fear they unleashed amongst commuters remains to be assuaged.
