There is no goal that has ever sent Nigerians mad like that of Kanu Nwankwo in Atlanta 1996. The semi-final match against Brazil. The goal sent Nigerians to the streets and major roads.
When Kanu scored the goal, he chose to gloat by
dancing and pointing a finger in the air. As if that was not enough, soon the lanky Nigerian player scored another heart breaking goal in the extra time. What a goal!
After the goal, football fans all over Nigeria came out to blazon the victory by running through any available roads.
It was a night that no soccer loving Nigerian will forget in a hurry.
As for me and other fans, we immediately formed what we used to call "cross country" that night. The
exhilarating experience took us to the next village. To our surprise, they were also people there that were in same mood. Soon we were joined to form a large crowd of fans. Guess what! What we never thought of happened. it was a celebration galore that cost us the whole night.
The news of the victory spread like a wild fire. Men in emotional topor were revived, husband and wife that were having conflict settled within a twinkle of an eye, well-to-do men declared a buffet that was huge. The type that included drinks and soft drinks for non liqour consumers, snacks for abstemious eaters and large entrees for the insatiable individuals.
A particular man who drank to a great deal,
demonstrated his spending prowess. He couldn't held himself. Of the funniest thing he did, throwing money in the air as a way of celebrating the victory toppled the list. Soon he was declared bankrupt as he could not even afford his transport fare back home.
What a Night it was! Folks where were you and how did you celebrate that victory?

MY MOST CHERISHED FOOTBALLER EVER IS, RONALDINHO! Gush! This guy was so beautiful on the ball and so beautiful to watch that I nearly develop "homo tendencies." While my most loved, respected, and cherished footballer to have ever come out of Africa is: Samuel Eto'o Fils - this guy represents the completeness of an African player and a success story to be told for year/centuries to come.

I started watching football around 1994, but I didn't know much of the names of clubs or any team - so my brother would support the team in black and I would support the team in white, vice versa, (black n white 'tv' tinz, lol). I officially got to know Madrid in 1999 because of my cousin who traveled to Spain and wrote us a letter that she was based in the city called, MADRID. So when I watched a football match the following week and I saw Real Madrid, I started following them with keen interest untill 2002 when I fell in love with Ronaldinho at the World Cup, and I heard a certain club called Barcelona were bidding for him - so I "joined" Barcelona, to wait for the arrival of Ronaldinho - which finally happened around 2003/2004 season - same as Samuel Eto'o.
