5 Nigerian Players To Watch Out For Next Season by naijanoni(m): 1:25pm On Jul 10, 2014 |
Last season wasn't that bad in terms of young nigerian players having their break-through in europe. Onazi went from being a lazio reserve player to a regular figure in lazio's 1st XI,Ramon azeez went from being an almeria team B player to be a regular and important 1st team player in the la liga and later on made his international debut and went to the world cup,Michael Olaitan went from being a Greece 2nd division player to be the top striker for Greek champions Olympiakos and also feature in the UEFA Champions league. Now We take a look at five nigerian players that might have their break-through in europe next season :- 1) Mikel Ndubisi Agu(FC Porto):- Can this Mikel turn out to be a better Mdfielder than John Obi ?. The 20yr old defensive midfielder has been with FC Porto since 2011 but in the B team. He made his 1st team debut last season and also featured for 90 minutes in porto's final match of the season against Benfica. His superb performance in that match got many in portugal talking about him. He has been promoted permanently to d 1st team for this coming season. And with porto's 1st choice Defensive midfielder,Fernando sold and no REAL intention presently from porto to buy a replacement,Mikel Agu is reportedly been considered to be fernando's direct replacement in porto's 1st XI. The 2014/2015 season might just turn out to be Mikel's break-through season. He might be playing in the champions league too if porto scale through the qualifying rounds. 2) Stefano Chuka Okaka(Sampdoria) :-Big,Strong,fast and Skillful Okaka was tipped by many to lead italy's attack in future during his days with the italian U-21s. But having failed to command a place in Roma's 1st team after 7 years and also at Parma, okaka seemed to be a forgotten issue. But his move to sampdoria in January is turning out to be great . Okaka had a decent 2nd half of last season. Tormenting serie A defenders, creating and also scoring some important goals. He scored 5 goals and also provided 4 assists in his 9 starts for sampdoria in the serie A 2nd half. His performace sparked up interests from Schalke 04,Torino and galatasaray in this transfer window. But as things stand,he is likely to remain in italy. With sampdoria's coach having faith in him to lead the attack, Okaka would likely get regular playing time next season(for d 1st time in his 7yrs in d serie A) and might score a lot of goals. The 24yr old forward is eligible to play for nigeria. Okaka was reportedly close to making Keshi's provisional list for d world cup. But NFF couldnt process his nationality switch in time. He has reportedly declared his interest in representing nigeria. 3) Imoh Ezekiel(Standard Liege):-With only one cap for nigeria,20yrs old ezekiel is already a house-hold name in belgium. Regarded as one of the best forwards in the pro league, ezekiel has consistently scored double figure goals since his move to Standard liege from badagry club 36 Lions. With 29 goals and a huge number of assists in his last 2 seasons, ezekiel has been linked with a number of clubs this summer>>CSKA Moscow,FC Porto,Bremen and Tottenham. Whether he makes a move or remain in belgium, ezekiel looks a forward that can shine at any league. He can play as a center forward or a supporting striker. The latter being where he played for most of last season. He has been great in his last 2 seasons, but 2014/2015 may be better especially if he moves to a better league. If he remains at standard liege,he would get to play in d champions league for d 1st time, which is equally good. 4) Anthony Ujah(FC Cologne):- 23yr old striker Ujah may have been dissapointinng in the few games he played for nigeria pre and post-confederations cup. But at club level,he has never dissapointed. In the last 2 seasons,he has been one of the best strikers in germany's 2nd division with a decent goal record, 25 goals in the last 2 seasons. Ujah was a very key figure in cologne's fight to return to the bundesliga.Scoring 13 goals last season,Ujah would look to continue his good goal-scoring record in the bundesliga next season as his club cologne gained promotion. If he hits double figure goals again next season(this time at d highest level),he'll no doubt be considered for a return to the national team. 5) Isaac Success(Granada):- The oldest among the victorious golden eaglets,18yrs old Success looks the most likely among that eaglets set to explode first. Barely a month after signing his 1st professional contract with udinese and loaned to granada,Success was listed in granada's 1st team squad to face barcelona in a la liga match,he also made the 1st team squad for the next match too. Even though he wasnt brought in to play from the bench, being listed among the subs alone in those matches goes to show the kind of belief granada has in him. He might get some game time with the 1st team next season and do what he knows how to do best>Score goals. 1 Like |

Okaka has played for Italy so forget him Anthony Ujah, we know him already and what he can cannot do. He is nt that promising. So forget him. The other 3 players are the real prospects to watch. |

Syenite: Okaka has played for Italy so forget himOkaka represented italy only at youth level just like moses and ameobi for england. He can switch nationality. NFF were reportedly about working on a nationality switch for him before d WC. He has also declared his interest in representing nigeria. So i see him playing 4 us soon. What im focusing on is club not national team. Ujah was poor at confeds cup same with babatunde. Babatunde was given a 2nd chance and he did well. Ujah too can do well if given a 2nd chance. 3 Likes |

Mikel Agu got a serious injury that will keep him out for a while. Maybe second half of the season. http://www.supersport.com/football/nigeria/news/140704/Mikel_Agu_injured I am interested in where Nwakali and Iheanacho play next season. They have to push for loan moves. Isaac Success and imoh ezekiel are really the only ones to look up to on your list. Chuks Aneke, good player now in belgium's top flight. Has real talent, this kid. Future of Nigeria's midfield. Time for him to get noticed. |

Arsenal has signed sanchez a new and if they also keep Giroud/sanogo,im afraid there would be no EPL game time for akpom next season unless he is loaned to an EPL club. Sammy started a handful of games 4 newcastle last season due to injuries to some key players, but i dont think next season would be better if he remains at newcastle. Newcastle are looking to re-inforce their squad by signing new attackers, that might push sammy down d pecking order if he stays. |
