Since the mass conversion of many Yoruba into christianity and Islam. Also the actions of Ajayi Crowther, we have seen so many Yoruba spiritual terms and principles being ridiculed in an attempt to gain ground for the foreign religions that wish to destroy our identity. Esu is now what Yoruba speaking Christians call their devil, as they call Eledumare their jehovah However it's common knowledge that Yoruba spirituality has no devil, and nothing close to the personality of jehovah or Allah In truth, Yoruba people are very spiritual, we have always been intrigued by matters concerning the "unseen" The coming of christianity and Islam seemed to have capitalized on this but thankfully not all were gullible enough to reject their ancestral knowledge or curse their ancestors But we still have a problem, crashing into Yoruba spirituality from the foreign religions and that is the erroneous use of Yoruba terms This thread is to discuss the true personality of Olodumare and not the Christian God as thought by Yoruba Christians |

As I was told that understanding the universe is understanding the creator itself. Olodumare is what the Yoruba call this creator. An Entity of no Genesis, No end, just infinite. As many translate the name "Olodumare" as "containment of infinite possibilities" The Yoruba view The creator as natural and balanced, The nature of the creator reflects the nature of life and the universe at large. A being that is neither "she" nor "he" Olodumare is understood as a being who is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent, Olodumare is everywhere at every time in a literal sense. Creating out of itself, we are all in Olodumare as it is in us Many don't understand the essence of omnipresence and other "omni-" qualities. probably because they misunderstand the philosophies of various spiritualities in relation to the Supreme being I think one needs to first know the universe before you can approach the creator, and this is our very purpose as humans. Knowledge builds our consciousness, a higher consciousness brings us closer to the creator. Which brings me to the importance of Ori. B'ori kan ba sunwon, a ran Igba o, Ori Origun-Aseda sunwon, o ran mi, bi ori kan sunwon ,A ran igba, Ori mi to sunwon, lo ran yin, Ori i yin to sunwon, lo ran mi Ori lo da Iwa l'aye, Ori lo da Orisha. Ori la ba bo, ka fi Orisha sile If one Ori is good, it would help 200, Origun-Aseda was blessed, he blessed me, if one Ori is good, it would help 200, my good Ori has helped you, your good Ori has helped me. it is Ori that set up existence, it is Ori that set up the Orisha. it is Ori we should honour and leave Orisha This in no way undermines or disrespects the immense of the Orisha but It buttress the importance of Ori If we can attain that height of consciousness we have achieved Orisha status. Ori is the path to Olodumare |

FOLYKAZE: Hmmmmmmm Ori lo ni idaun yen I heard the church some meters away, shout out praise in the name Olodumare but kept cursing Esu they went ahead to imply Jesus as Olodumare..maybe professing the trinity of jehovah I got angry and started thinking about what the Yoruba would think of when you talk of Olodumare, so this thread just helped me write down some of those thoughts Nothing special or professional |

Olodumare/Eledumare is deep a universal force from which all forms of energies are sourced from. Knowledge of it ways is what Orunmila is charged with to which after dropping and shattered all over the world Orunmila collected and assembled them all back into what we now know as Ifa hence the saying Ifa - 'ase Olodumare'. The concept of Yoruban Olodumare is not the same with the anthropomorphic deistic concept of the Yahweh, Jeovah and Allah in Judaism, Christianity and Islam respectively who is gendered as a male to which its indoctrinants always addresses as 'he' as if they've seen him or believed those who wrote their so-called holy books on him had seen him. Secondly, Olodumare has no business dealing with mere mortals, any human issues or problem has been assigned to one or two of the 401 Irunmoles to deal with in their respective department. *would come back to share more* |

Humans chose to deal with Irunmoles/Orishas/Olodumare. Not the other way round. The SPiritual Forces exist on their own means. 2 Likes |
