Maintain your vehicle. Changing your oil and replacing the oil filter will improve fuel economy, and keeping your car well-tuned will help you save about 10 percent more gasoline.

You need to brake differently with ABS?
That’s true. ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) works by releasing the brakes at the moment of wheel lock-up. This happens many times a second, and may make both the car and brake pedal shudder. For ABS to work properly you need to keep constant firm pressure on the pedal – think "Stomp and Steer".

Today's Tip:

One most essential part of the car is its battery. It is the main source of power and its maintenance is really important. One can use a water and baking soda mixture to keep it clean. The cables used in the car must be non-corrosive and properly attached. The batteries also have a life span. After that they don’t work properly. So change them within the time period of their expiry.

Avoid lengthy idling. If you have to stop somewhere for more than one minute it’s more efficient to turn off the engine rather than letting it idle.

Tip about oil changing.

Don't do this:
Change your own oil. It's a messy job that often requires raising the car off the ground and leaves you with five quarts of dirty oil to dispose of in an environmentally friendly manner.
Do this:
Get your oil changed on schedule per the owner's manual and make sure the shop uses a quality oil filter and the correct type of oil, also per the manual.

Got a garage? Clear it out and make room for your car. Parking in your garage will help your car stay warm in winter and cool in summer, and you won't have to depend as much on your gas-guzzling air-conditioning or defroster when you drive.

A quick video that follows a rust repair on a car. The right way of dealing with rust is cutting it out and welding new metal in, no other method will yield any lasting repair. And no, rust can not be neutralized completely on a car, there are just too many places you can't reach.

FUEL-EFFICIENT DRIVING:
1. Avoid aggressive driving. "Jack-rabbit" starts and hard braking can increase fuel consumption by as much as 40%. Tests show that "jackrabbit" starts and hard braking reduces travel time by only four percent, while toxic emissions were more than five times higher. The proper way is to accelerate slowly and smoothly, then get into high gear as quickly as possible. In city driving, nearly 50% of the energy needed to power your car goes to acceleration.
2. Drive steadily at posted speed limits.
Increasing your highway cruising speed from 55mph (90km/h) to 75mph (120km/h) can raise fuel consumption as much as 20%. You can improve your gas mileage 10 - 15% by driving at 55mph rather than 65mph (104km/h).

Do you have your car's mirrors set up correctly?
Here’s how to do it. Lean your head against the left window and adjust the left mirror so you just barely see the left side of your car. Then, lean to the right, to about the middle of your dash, and adjust the right mirror just until you can just barely see the right side.

If it’s done properly, a car passing to your left or right should start to appear in your side view mirror just as it starts to move out of your rear view mirror.

If someone wrote “wash me, please” on your car, you should better wash your car!

You should always remember that dirt attracts moisture and keeps it in direct contact with the surface of the vehicle. Dirt also tends to become embedded in all the small imperfections of your car, such as those little and big scratches on the bodywork. By eliminating the dirt, you can prevent this moisture from causing unwelcome rust patches on your vehicle. It’s an important step in protecting your investment.
