While growing up as a kid, the name Lomé was synonymous with trade, textiles and travel for a number of traders and other merchants in Zaire, the present Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC.

Musicians like Luambo Makiadi, Tabu Ley and host of others eulogized the place as the epitome of trade and business exchange so good that we thought that Lomé was a must-visit kind of place. This glory was aided by the political and economic relevance of the city; it was the days of Lomé conventions which were the platform the African leadership was using to adopt a common front in dealing with the European Union in terms of trade and business exchange.
