In my view, computer engineering (based on electrical engineering) stresses concepts closer to the hardware: embedded system design; CPU microcode design; operating system implementation, networking. On the other hand, computer science (based on math) stresses concepts away from hardware: algorithm implementation and complexity, artificial intelligence, programming languages. In short, one might hire a computer engineer to build a network of computers, and a computer scientist to create a distributed search engine that runs on the network. I'd assume that a company like Intel leans more towards computer engineering, whereas Google leans more towards computer science. I studied both. 4 Likes |

Both are cool though, but I think computer science is somehow more lucrative in Nigeria than computer engineering due to d fact that dealing with real hardware (m not referring to computer technicians) in Nigeria is not so lucrative, compared to d software side of computer science. Most graduate of computer engineering in Nigeria deal in software (computer science) |

I know computer science and engineering graduates that don't know how to program. Learning about computers is a technical field not a theoretical thing. If u want to study computer science or engineering don't study in Nigerian universities (or look for a uni that is more involved in the technical aspect if there are any). |

Good one fellow Drniyi4u: Computer Engineering is more lucrative in Nigeria cause they become Installation and maintenance Technicians for small and medium size businesses. As for Computer Science,it is lagging behind in Nigeria. Besides, it's better studying either or both of them in develop countries that understands the true nature of Technology. 1 Like |
