OSUN ELECTION; No Going Back On Troops Deployment –jonathan by PhockPhockMan: 5:43pm On Aug 03, 2014 |
President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday said there is no going back in the deployment of troops for this weekend’s governorship elections in Osun State. He said the essence is to checkmate or severely deal with persons who want to engage in violence or electoral malpractices. Jonathan spoke in Osogbo, Osun State capital during a campaign rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the election, Iyiola Omisore. He was obviously referring to calls by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the deployment of soldiers for the polls. The President, who recalled that 10 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) were killed in the violence that erupted in some states during the 2011 general elections, pledged that security agents won’t allow a similar situation in Osun State. “We will not allow that. We will make sure that Osun State is properly policed. “Whoever calls himself a thug or whatever and finds himself in Osun state that day will be dealt with according to the law. “It will be one man, one vote; one woman, one vote; one youth, one vote. “We asked you to queue up to register and vote and some people now say we should not deploy security so that they will come and snatch ballot boxes. You must say no to that”, Jonathan declared. He told the crowd that gathered at the Osogbo Township Stadium that PDP had more democratic credentials than any other party in the country, with other parties struggling in vain to catch up. “They can’t compare with us on transparency in selecting our candidates”, said Jonathan as he urged the Osun electorate to give him and Vice President Namadi Sambo, whose birthday coincided with the day of the rally, a special birthday gift by voting massively to elect Omisore as the next governor of the state. Jonathan described Omisore as a grassroots man, unlike those who stay on hilltops and look down on the masses, adding, “We will work together to develop this state. We allow the people to select who will represent them. “We need maximum cooperation from everybody to make Osun state work and to develop. All we ask of you is to vote Omisore and leave the rest to us.” In his remarks, Sambo recalled that he had known Omisore for over 40 years; and he remains one of the best electrical engineers in the country, with other public service credentials that make him qualified to be the next governor of Osun State. He therefore implored the people to give Osun a new lease of life by returning the state to the party that it rightly belongs to for faster progress and more development. Chairman of the PDP, Adamu Muazu, and Akwa Ibom State governor, Godswill Akpabio, also called on Osun voters to elect Omisore and the PDP to steer the affairs for the state for good. Also at the rally were Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha; Governor Gabriel Suswam; PDP Board of Trustees chairman, Tony Anenih; Police Affairs Minister, Jelili Adesiyan; other cabinet members including Olajumoke Akinjide, Musiliu Obanikoro; Ekiti Governor-elect, Ayo Fayose; PDP chieftains; Femi Fani-Kayode, Teslim Folarin, Bode George, Erelu Obada, Kema Chikwe, among others. However, APC in its reaction, said it was not moved by the crowd that graced the PDP rally in Oshogbo. Director of the Bureau of Communications and Strategy, Office of the Osun State Governor, Semiu Okanlawon, said the PDP rally was empty, that it left the few who paid attention to what the leaders wanted to say bewildered. According to Okanlawon, what PDP did with its “so-called” mega rally was to at best, just register its presence in the state, having discovered that their candidate has no chance in the electoral contest of August 9. Kunle Oyatomi, Osun APC Director of Publicity, Media and Strategy, described the rally as a mere jamboree, stressing that majority of the supporters that attended were not from Osun, but from other South West states. Meanwhile, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has denied claims that it conducted an opinion poll that favoured the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore. Acting Public Affairs Officer of the US Consulate General, Lagos, Rhonda Watson said that the agency did not conduct opinion poll on the forthcoming governorship election. It would be recalled that the PDP had claimed that the agency conducted a poll on Osun election, which the PDP was favoured to win. The agency refuted the claim and described it as lie adding that “No USAID poll was taken in Osun”. Quoting a one-paragraph response from USAID, Democracy and Governance Team, Abuja, the United States Agency categorically said, “None of USAID Peace and Democracy Governance Implementing Partners (P/DG IPs) support or plan to support any election related opinion polls in Osun.” The APC had contacted the USAID to provide it with a copy of the findings of the PDP alleged poll for verification, to which the agency responded that no such poll was conducted. The party in a statement issued and signed Oyatomi, described the claim as false story. The APC therefore described the PDP in Osun as a band of liars who cannot be trusted with the finances of the state. Similarly, the APC has also alleged that the PDP is conspiring with some staff of INEC official to hatch a plan to rig the August 9 gubernatorial election in Osun State. In a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the party alleged that some INEC IT staff has allegedly handed over the entire electoral register for the state to a Special Assistant to a top PDP national official, with a view to manipulating it to disenfranchise many voters. According to Mohammed, ‘’For those who may see this as outlandish, they should recall that an INEC official tampered with the voters register used during the last gubernatorial election in Anambra State to remove the names of many voters”. APC said the plan to tamper with the electoral register for Osun, coupled with INEC’s delay in issuing Permanent Voter Register to registered voters, especially those who are APC members in the state, highlight the desperation of the PDP to win the forthcoming governorship election at all cost. http://dailyindependentnig.com/2014/08/going-back-troops-deployment-jonathan/ 1 Like |

Why president jonathan is trying to brainwash or decieve Nigerian's? he said some corpers lost their life during 2011 general election due to insecurity, Accepted. The vulnearable question is simple. Anambra sate gubernatorial election was conducted last year november, Why soldier was not deployed to the state? d lives of people living are less concern to Mr. president? or is anambra state not part of Niferia? |
