tochimas: Please they should stay at home oh, what exactly are they suppose to do to help Ebola patients , they should cone and compound our problems by contacting and spreading the disease . The few foreign consultants is enough to handle the few cases we have now abeg, not plenty people coming to act as Ebola distributors to family and friends and then use that as the bases for all their insatiable demands |

Yea! This is it! It does not come usually but when it happens we need some people on the front line. Medical profession is very lucrative because of the pay packs. It is quite funny that some people think Doctors and other health workers are being paid for years learning their trade.No. They are being paid handsomely because of emergent special period like this and they must not dodge their responsibility. If they do,it will be worst than a pilot that parachuted out of a plane in the mid air. The passengers become piecemeal. This is their own 'Sambisa',if they can't, who will? 1 Like |

Now that there is a clear risk of being infected with the Ebola virus in Nigeria, why have the JOHESU warlords suddenly gone mute? Shouldn't they rise up to the occasion and take the lead in this fight against the dreaded disease, why is everyone calling on doctors to call off the strike and return to save patients...... How ironic. So doctors do take the lead afterall, they also are evidently the most vulnerable as has been shown, yet the most vilified for asking for the implementation of already signed agreements. May God save our country from this Ebola virus... 4 Likes |

Acidosis: Judging from few of your posts i've seen in the past, I used to think you are, at least, of average intelligence (except, of course, there is a new acidosis who is docile) So, in a research team supposed to find a cure for ebola virus infection, your common sense tells you 'allied scientists' are the lead researchers? #smh Btw, you think the so-called Lab Scientist is more of a SCIENTIST than the Medical Doctor (Haematologist, Medical Microbiologist, Chemical Pathologist, Morbid Anatomy specialist, Immunologist, Virologist or Clinical Pharmacologic etc, as the case may be?). The ignorance of some people is unrivaled. 4 Likes |

Re: Striking Doctors Offer To Treat Ebola Patients by slightlyMad(f): 10:42pm On Aug 05, 2014 |
they need to extract some strain of the virus and start working on building the antibodies. btw, how did the usa prepare the serum, and how did they guess it may work. my guess is the monkeys they used in the experiments escaped during test in Africa and then they dont want ebola entering the usa. sorry, it is too late, ebola will make it to the US definitely. |

I hope some Doctors will not denounce their calling ooo.. Me think this ebola virus is a product of mutation of non-virulent virus in some Labs. These same Labs will later turn out to be our SAVIOURS. God help us in times like these. |

nas00: Shut up! If Doctors won't allow Pharmacists get PharmD degrees, then Doctors should stick to their acoustic stestoscope and syringe. They have no place in Pharmacology, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutics, and anything Pharmaceutical. Medical Doctors do not produce drugs/vaccine; but ofcourse, you can digress and apply for a role in Pharmacy. We have Engineers working in Banks; somehow, we call them "bankers", but their respective conscience tell them they are elective bankers If you want to do banking; go and study banking and finance. If you must work in the Lab, go and buy Jamb form and take a science or medical laboratory course. If you must do drugs, go and buy JAMB form and apply for Pharmacy/Pharmacology or go do "agbo jedi" atleast 3 Likes |

I hv always known dat reading big books does not mean a person is intelligent. see hw they want to commit suicide even when nature has tried to protect them by bringing the disease when they were on strike. for ur information foolish doctors. u dont have a cure so ur presence is just a means to spread it and it is likely airborne. use ur brains. wisdom is not gotten by cramming big books |

Doctors on the ground can only do so much. There certainly needs to be more options for treatment, although drug companies are not exactly what I would call eager in the development of a vaccine. I heard from one researcher who works for one of the major drug companies state that there is ''no money in it for us''. I guess it's so... 1 Like |

duni04: Very false story. None of the doctors at the infectious diseases hospital, Nigeria's equivalent of the American CDC, has volunteered to treat the Ebola patients. The only confirmed case of the disease in Nigeria is currently being handled by nurses who volunteered to do so. The doctors at the hospital have bluntly refused to attend to even the suspected cases of ebola currently in isolation at the hospital. What d'you stand to gain from barefaced lies aimed at discrediting these men? The same propaganda you embarked upon painting 'em as wicked, selfish and inconsiderate for justifiably going on strike is what you have started on again. Did you realise there was an official statement to attend to suspected and confirmed ebola infected following a meeting that was held with the LASG? And by the way, your "Nigeria equivalent of the CDC" has doctors on the team if you must know. I'm sure the uninformed masses will not swallow your lies this time cos most of them (even the nurses among its ranks) have realised josehu's weapon of propaganda of false information and have began to ignore them. So much thanks to modern media. I could have sworn you'll go on propaganda spree claiming the Lagos, Liberian, Serria Leonian and American doctors and nurses infected were not actually doctors but lab technicians or pharmacists with PharmD contrary to claims. Pls be honest for a moment, haba! So much hate!!! 3 Likes |

Acidosis: Well, maybe you'll tell your fellow allied health workers (pharmacists included) to stop brandishing and hanging what isn't their trade marks on their car dashboards and rear view mirrors - the "stestoscope". Simplified - A traffic police who is a soldier wannabe displaying an army combat belt on his dashboard. And before you start ranting that the "stestoscope" and syringe isn't the exclusive preserve of the doctors (cos i know that'll surely be your next line of defence and argument), remember you threw the first "stestoscope" salvo. Meanwhile, given a flash-card scenario, what's the first thing that comes to your mind when shown a syringe, A nurse, right? And what about when flashed a card with a stethoscope drawn on it, a doctor, I guess. So that settles it. |

Honestly, the age of tech has simplified life for us all when we seek knowledge. It's appalling to see that people feel because there's no cure for ebola, then the physician has no role in the management. NTA tweets say severe cases require intensive care. The American doc with Samaritan who had the MZapp stuff was cared for by people who realised ebola could shuts down systems of the body and this made prepare in anticipation for things like renal, hematologic, cardiac shutdowns. Mild cases still require supportive care covering areas such as electrolytes and fluids. Who coordinate all these? I sure know it's not a carpenter. 2 Likes |
