YOU HAVE SAID EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED TO SAY ALL THESE WHILE. YOU HAVE HIT THE NAIL DIRECTLY ON THE HEAD. A COUNTRY OF IGNORANT BUT POMPOUS CITIZENS, A COUNTRY WHERE ONE GOODLUCK THAT OBVIOUSLY KNEW NOTHING AND DISPLAYED IT EVEN DURING CAMPAIGN CAN BE PRESIDENT. A COUNTRY WHERE EVERYBODY LIKES TO 'MAINTAIN' SO THAT HIS NEIGHBOR WILL THINK HE IS BETTER THAN HE ACTUALLY IS. A COUNTRY WHERE AN OBVIOUSLY FALSE DOCTRINE WILL TAKE ROOT AND BECOME A GLOBAL ENTERPRISE. A COUNTRY WHERE A CIVIL SERVANT WILL STEAL FROM THE PUBLIC AND YET REFUSE TO LEAVE THE CHURCH OR MOSQUE. A HOPELESS COUNTRY.

WHERE ARE THOSE INSULTING AMERICANS ALL THESE WHILE? WHERE IS ROSSIK OR ONE LAME NAIRALANDER WHO CLAIMS BLACKS ARE MORE INTELLIGENT THAN WHITES? WHERE ARE THEY? SHAME ON ALL OF YOU. WHEN WE USE ALL OUR TIME FOR NAMIMG CEREMONIES, MARRYING THE MOST PRETTY GIRL, TURN THE WORLD UPSIDE DOWN IF WE DONT GIVE BIRTH TO KIDS, AND KEEPING UP WITH THE JONESES, THEN HOW DO WE HOPE TO KNOW ANYTHING? ONCE MORE IT IS TIME TO LOOK TO THE WHITES FOR SALVATION!

onatisi: neither do I live in nigeria too. But u know that symptoms of this infection doesn't show until maybe after 2 weeks?now before the symptoms finally manifests how will one detect someone that has it? We are discussing and this isn't an argument .I am just trying to buttress my first comment on this thread on the need to involve local traditional healers and the need for nigeria to look inward for a cure without waiting for western powers
to help u both its bin said dat d incubation state of d disease in a victims body is not transmittable until he or she starts showing prone symptoms so one wud knw wen somone around u has d dreadful virus

Unfortunately, many Nigerians are semi illiterate and unpatriotic fools, the president and minister of health can go to hell, they are idiots. I live in Mali and something like this has not happen because their government are mean, they will never allow it to enter here even as they share border with one of the affected country, the problem with Nigerian leaders are their incompetence and half baked education.

Since this virus started,no one has taking it so serious, now that it is in,they want to act God.Hell No.

Even the doctors who attended the Liberian man are all fools, one does not need to tell you as long as he is from Liberia and show sign of sickness, you don't need to touch him right from the airport, our government should have taking the measures that they took now right from day one. Now they want to create a bad image for our dear land. My advice to you all honest and well meaning Nigerians is to vote out the clown called Jonathan from office. If he visit Mali, you all will hear the news because we are ready to disgrace him here. Idiotic president with idiotic ministers. Proudly Nigerian from Abia State.

The solution is in WHO recommendation that the disease is not contagious until the patient actually fall ill. So an ill-looking passenger of whatever origin should be tested and monitored...." all i knw is sawyer knew he probably av contacted d disease buh still flew in meanin it was frm our own negligence dat dis dreadful virus got in

And dont forget the gloves you are talking about here, you cant use same twice or else, you still stand a risk of getting infected. One glove at every touch and that glove must be discarded by burning immediately. It's not an easy task as you can see. No absolute sure way of preventing this ebola of a thing. We can only try our best. Patrick Sawyer, may we not curse you for bringing us this destructive gift.

One gloves can be used an entire day just make sure you dont scratch or clean sweat with the gloves still on your hands. And yes it is not easy, all blames go to the Nigerian government.

cirmuell: also the best type of gloves to use is disposable latex gloves, washing and reusing the conventional gloves os not advisable.

thats correct, and the gloves after use should be burn

Good one there but unfortunately you don't know who an infectious victim is. One could sit beside him in a bus, sit on the spot he just stood up, collect from him a naira note he has been keeping in the pocket or some other materials that are exchanged daily , buy bread and some other materials he just helped in packing where he is working, collect money from an ATM he just loaded, buy some foodstuff from him in the market which he measures with hands etc. The best way of controlling this disease is by ensuring that those "suspects" are strictly monitored otherwise.....God save Nigeria!

strict monitoring by the government and civilians practicing and keeping a clean and tidy environment.

Reference:

And many Nigerians will lie to their convenience, not only Sawyer. They will lie at the ports of entry. They will lie to avoid quarantine. They will lie out of desperation to get treatment. This is a big problem. That is why I told a doctor recently that EVERY clinic and hospital MUST prepare to screen EVERYONE that walks through its gates BEFORE admitting them for consultation even emergencies. They must all begin to build containment facilities and begin to set aside funds for full bio-protection kits.

Till date and even in this report no one has been able to document and determine how these medical personel catch this virus even when most of them were experienced and some fully protected. If the situation is just touch and go then there is real trouble. My advice in view of this lacuna:

The virus is most likely airborne and not just in bodily fluids thus full body, non porous protection with breathing apparatus.

Medical personel should optimize the time spent with each patient.

ALL protective gear should be incinerated immediately after use. Nothing should be reused except irridiation facilities are available.

Medical personel must step up personal hygiene. Multiple change of personal clothing, trimmed nails, hair that can be washed multiple times daily thus no attachments or make up. It is that critical.

The cost of all these leaves only the government able to handle ebola cases for now. Privates should only isolate. This was the mistake First Medical made and they are paying the price. I hope they all survive.

Great point you have there, i was actually discussing with a colleague who runs a Medical diagnostic facility and were talking about the possibility, merits and demerits of installing UV rays in doors of labs, clinics, isolation wards and hospitals...even pharmacies.

Having an incinerator close-by for incineration of lab coats, syringes, and all material used in the detection and management of the disease is not a bad idea, i don't know if chloroform bath works well, but the organism seem to have some high level of resistance for an enveloped virus. Enveloped viruses are easily denatured and inactivated compared to the Uneveloped viruses by detergents, but this one seem a bit different.

I also hold a very strong opinion that the bodies of dead ebola victims be burned, burying it might not be safe in a country where people exhume corpses for ritual stuffs and all. Forces of nature like flooding and erosion may also cause "auto-exhumation' of infected corpses.

I still believe there is a lot we don't know about this virus, that's why we are still helpless in this very difficult situation.

onatisi: that is a wrong assumption . You see ,the chinese have a strong traditional medicine setup because their govt supports them, if our local traditional medicine guys are supported by the fg you will be surprised at what they can contribute and what they have to offer.before the whites came you have to realise that our local medicine sustained our forefathers.both the orthodox medical practitioners and the traditional ones can learn from each other

well said Bro....

lestat: Millions of Nigerians will die from this disease evenUN has predicted this and do you know why? Because as a people Nigerians have failed, Nigerians praise falsehood, mediocrity and material things.. Now you have been attracting the type of leaders you deserve.. Leaders who are dead spiritually and have no iota of remorse nor belief in the spiritual consequences of their actions.

Now th ebola will wipe millions of Nigerians away, because the country knew over a month ago that this disease was ravaging the west African region but was anything done to prevent this from entering Nigeria? No! We as a people have grown indolent and choose to be spoon fed we abhor work and look for ease in everything hence why spiritual bandits labeling themselves churchs thrive here...they offer seats in paradise in exchange for monetary gains, they encourage reckless, heartless life styles as long as you ask for forgiveness on Sunday, and also pay your thites so you can receive.

Why dont these spiritual fraudsters speak up against the injustices in our society by the government? the answer is simple the government also attends mosques and churches.

Well now it is too late, ebola cannot be bribed away, ebola cannot be deceived, this is it... The same Americans that boko harram hate, these same Americans that yahoo boys dupe daily are the only ones who can save west Africa, no PDP, Redeemed, christ embassy, or Nigerian Muslim association.... I have been waiting for one pastor to rise up and claim he or she can lay hands on ebola victims and heal them...where is pastor oyakilomeh? Usually he lays hands and casts out all diseases, has his healing powers gone on vacation?

Who knows maybe this time next month ebola may have killed even me too, who knows?

Saying God forbid wont do anything, this is a serious issue, alot of people do not realize how grave this is.

Well the sad fact is most of the Muslim clerics and pastors will run abroad when it gets really bad and they will tell you they are praying for Nigerians from there.

After this Maybe Nigerians will finally wake up?

Very good points...i'm still thinking why this ebola disease has not been recorded in Mali, Ivory Coast and even the very small country of Guinea-Bissau. All these three countries share borders with Guinea where the cases first started. It clearly shows our government are very wicked.
I read in an online news media sometimes in June, that what steps are our government taking in preventing ebola from reaching here.
Most people who read and comment castigate the online news media of giving false news that there is no way ebola will every get to Nigeria. Now, unfortunately, it is too late for fire-fighting. What a bunch of useless government officials.

World Health Organization (WHO) says Ebola death toll has reached 932.

The report was stated by WHO at the ongoing two-day emergency meeting on west Africa’s Ebola epidemic, with the UN agency deciding whether to declare it an international crisis.

The closed-door session is tasked with ruling whether the outbreak constitutes what is known in WHO-speak as a “public health emergency of international concern”.

Taking the form of a telephone conference between senior WHO officials, representatives of affected countries, and experts from around the globe, the meeting is not expected to made its decision public until Friday.

What has the hat wearing Nigerian president done/directed to be done in order to prevent the dangerous spread of this disease? Ok lets go this way, fg should increase the hazard allowance to 1, guess that will make them call of d strike. But honestly, my problem is not with the striking doctors but with our honourable president who seem not have any solution to any problem.
