onatisi: neither do I live in nigeria too. But u know that symptoms of this infection doesn't show until maybe after 2 weeks?now before the symptoms finally manifests how will one detect someone that has it? We are discussing and this isn't an argument .I am just trying to buttress my first comment on this thread on the need to involve local traditional healers and the need for nigeria to look inward for a cure without waiting for western powersto help u both its bin said dat d incubation state of d disease in a victims body is not transmittable until he or she starts showing prone symptoms so one wud knw wen somone around u has d dreadful virus |

Unfortunately, many Nigerians are semi illiterate and unpatriotic fools, the president and minister of health can go to hell, they are idiots. I live in Mali and something like this has not happen because their government are mean, they will never allow it to enter here even as they share border with one of the affected country, the problem with Nigerian leaders are their incompetence and half baked education. Since this virus started,no one has taking it so serious, now that it is in,they want to act God.Hell No. Even the doctors who attended the Liberian man are all fools, one does not need to tell you as long as he is from Liberia and show sign of sickness, you don't need to touch him right from the airport, our government should have taking the measures that they took now right from day one. Now they want to create a bad image for our dear land. My advice to you all honest and well meaning Nigerians is to vote out the clown called Jonathan from office. If he visit Mali, you all will hear the news because we are ready to disgrace him here. Idiotic president with idiotic ministers. Proudly Nigerian from Abia State. |

The solution is in WHO recommendation that the disease is not contagious until the patient actually fall ill. So an ill-looking passenger of whatever origin should be tested and monitored...." all i knw is sawyer knew he probably av contacted d disease buh still flew in meanin it was frm our own negligence dat dis dreadful virus got in |

RedBenson: One gloves can be used an entire day just make sure you dont scratch or clean sweat with the gloves still on your hands. And yes it is not easy, all blames go to the Nigerian government. |

Reference: Great point you have there, i was actually discussing with a colleague who runs a Medical diagnostic facility and were talking about the possibility, merits and demerits of installing UV rays in doors of labs, clinics, isolation wards and hospitals...even pharmacies. Having an incinerator close-by for incineration of lab coats, syringes, and all material used in the detection and management of the disease is not a bad idea, i don't know if chloroform bath works well, but the organism seem to have some high level of resistance for an enveloped virus. Enveloped viruses are easily denatured and inactivated compared to the Uneveloped viruses by detergents, but this one seem a bit different. I also hold a very strong opinion that the bodies of dead ebola victims be burned, burying it might not be safe in a country where people exhume corpses for ritual stuffs and all. Forces of nature like flooding and erosion may also cause "auto-exhumation' of infected corpses. I still believe there is a lot we don't know about this virus, that's why we are still helpless in this very difficult situation. |

onatisi: that is a wrong assumption . You see ,the chinese have a strong traditional medicine setup because their govt supports them, if our local traditional medicine guys are supported by the fg you will be surprised at what they can contribute and what they have to offer.before the whites came you have to realise that our local medicine sustained our forefathers.both the orthodox medical practitioners and the traditional ones can learn from each othereven babalawo nor go fit find d cure jare |

well said Bro.... lestat: Millions of Nigerians will die from this disease evenUN has predicted this and do you know why? Because as a people Nigerians have failed, Nigerians praise falsehood, mediocrity and material things.. Now you have been attracting the type of leaders you deserve.. Leaders who are dead spiritually and have no iota of remorse nor belief in the spiritual consequences of their actions. |

Very good points...i'm still thinking why this ebola disease has not been recorded in Mali, Ivory Coast and even the very small country of Guinea-Bissau. All these three countries share borders with Guinea where the cases first started. It clearly shows our government are very wicked. I read in an online news media sometimes in June, that what steps are our government taking in preventing ebola from reaching here. Most people who read and comment castigate the online news media of giving false news that there is no way ebola will every get to Nigeria. Now, unfortunately, it is too late for fire-fighting. What a bunch of useless government officials. |

World Health Organization (WHO) says Ebola death toll has reached 932. The report was stated by WHO at the ongoing two-day emergency meeting on west Africa’s Ebola epidemic, with the UN agency deciding whether to declare it an international crisis. The closed-door session is tasked with ruling whether the outbreak constitutes what is known in WHO-speak as a “public health emergency of international concern”. Taking the form of a telephone conference between senior WHO officials, representatives of affected countries, and experts from around the globe, the meeting is not expected to made its decision public until Friday. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/08/ebola-death-toll-reaches-932/ |
