FG Confirms 10th Ebola Case In Lagos by Samueldo(m): 1:21pm On Aug 11, 2014
The Federal Government has confirmed another Ebola case in Lagos bringing the total number of Ebola Virus Disease victims to 10, even as 177 primary and secondary contacts of the index case have been placed under surveillance or isolation.
At a world media briefing in Abuja Monday, the Minister of Health Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu said of these 10 cases, 2 have died (the Liberian American and the Nigerian nurse) while 8 are alive and currently on treatment.
This is the situation 22 days since the dreaded EVD first landed in Nigeria.
At the sub regional level, the Ebola Virus Disease was discussed as a substantive agenda during the Summit of the Authority of Heads of State and Government in Accra Ghana.
Chukwu said Nigeria, as usual, played its leading, pioneering and compassionate role during the Summit with the first and only donation of USD3.5 million humanitarian and capacity building aid to the three affected countries of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, the West African Health Organization (WAHO), and the ECOWAS Ebola Fund.

At least they're not dropping dead like dominoes.....that's a positive! If they've lasted this long it means the ebola thing isn't getting the upper hand!

Please just continue to isolate them. Also don't quarantine all suspected ebola cases together. I take God beg una.

Someone like Fashola driving this nation will make the rest of the world envy us.

He was proactive and like i heard, the victims were placed under strict highly nutritious diet
and there you have it.
Future president Babatunde Raji Fashola proving to the world and americans that hey! we dont need your zmapp, keep the formula to yourself.
we have our game and it is on.

something tells me, bitter kola may be helping them stay longer for their immune system to kick in and start fighting the virus

From all indications, the first hospital and healthcare professionals that received the Liberian index case did a VERY bad job. The Lagos state govt also failed woefully to prepare the private hospitals in Lagos for a possible Ebola case.

blaming the lagos state government is always your priority. what has the federal government done so far in controlling the situation? The health ministry is yet to build isolation centres. the only thing onyebuchi chukwu knows is to take glory for another man's work.

When did it get to 10?

As far as I recall there has only been one confirmed case.

The Liberian Patrick Sawyer, who died in Nigeria

If I am wrong, please correct me with the list of other confirmed cases.

I do not know whether the whole Ebola virus is a hoax or not but I am convinced the hysteria about a fake epidemic is propaganda and it is coming from the white man.

out of the preventive measures against ebola. The most useful to me is not touching sick people. There is a custom in one of the affected countries where children are not allowed to touch sick adults. It was recorded that most children in the area tested negative to the virus despite the massive epidemic. I believe the lagos state government would do their best. I trust that government

Na wa for this guy. I wish you dont have heart attack one day because of lagos state government..........
So it is sole responsibility of LASG to equip private hospitals despite the fact that the virus, at present has no cure. Why cant you just comment generally without potraiting LASG bad?
The last time i checked, the man passed through federal government airport and no lagosians or so are really blaming the poor measures the federal put on ground.

IN ALL SINCERITY, TELL ME THAT YOUR STATE GOVERNMENT HAS EQUIPPED ALL THE PRIVATE OR GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS IN CASE THERE IS AN OUTBREAK THERE TODAY? TELL ME,PLEASE THE MEASURES THEY HAVE PUT IN PLACE.......

Besides, it can happen anywhere. Remember that the man was heading to calabar. Assuming he was successful, may be your state would have been in the same shoes. Forget politics and lets look at a way of cubbing the spread instead of castigating LASG

or else........ you can easily get heart attack on lagos state issues, because i dont think you are really sleeping well at all, because you always looking for threads related to LASG. NA WAO

The number of primary & secondary contacts keep increasing in a geometric progression. Looks like it would be better to quarantine all primary & secondary contacts now before these numbers get out of hand. How exactly are they observing these number of persons? Do they have medical personnel at all their homes?

It was always going to be inevitable!

Once we had the first case, and it wasn't handled adroitly, we lost the battle there and then.

My dear that is the main fear o. In fact, this is just not a good time to even have ordinary fever or malaria. People will just avoid you and maybe you may end up in quarantine with ebola suspects! God forbid! That's why families of the nurses and doctors that attended to sawyer are on the run.

Beremekwensu, I have already criticized the FG but it is the constitutional responsibility of the state govt to mobilize private hospitals IN LAGOS for possible Ebola case. The Lagos state govt FAILED WOEFULLY in that regard. If that private hospital had been primed for possible Ebola case, the situation would have been different. What we have currently is 10 new cases of CONFIRMED Ebola, all contacted from the index case (the Liberian). I mean that is the hallmark of a CATASTROPHIC healthcare system. It means Fashola presided over a catastrophic health care system in the last 7 years. That is shameful.

Where the FG failed was in failing to establish Ebola screening centres at the Airport. However, so far most other suspected or confirmed cases of Ebola in other countries were picked up at the hospital, not the Airport.
