It seems like every year there is a new viral threat to the human race... and I'm not talking about Boko Haram.
These deadly viruses could mark the end of all mankind.

1) The Ebola virus is a very serious concern for primates and humans. This scary virus is transmitted by fruit bats and kills around 90% of those who are infected with it. A new strain of this disease is currently rampaging through the tropics.

2) The H5N1 virus. This is an influenza type virus commonly referred to as the Avian Flu (or Bird Flu). This deadly disease kills around 60% of people who are infected with it, so an infectious mutation could easily lead to a pandemic.

3) SARS is an airborne virus that can cause acute respiratory distress. This virus can become severe enough to cause death, and it spreads quickly from person to person.

4) The hanta virus is a potentially deadly disease transmitted through exposure to rodent scat, saliva, or urine.

5) The Marburg Virus is a hemorrhagic illness that was discovered in Germany and has been observed throughout Europe. It has severe symptoms very similar to Ebola, but has about a 60% survival rate.

6) Smallpox is a potential threat. The fear is that this once eradicated illness could make a return without much of a vaccine supply to fight it.
