The federal government has suspended the residency training programme of Doctors in Federal hospitals and also terminated the appointment of Resident doctors in an attempt to solve the crisis facing the health sector. Medical directors have been ordered to issue out letters of termination of appointment to all resident doctors. Resident doctors form the bulk of Doctors working in government owned hospitals and they continously train for 6 to 7 years after which they become consultants following ratification by either the West Africa college of surgeons and Physicians or a National Medical Council of Nigeria after writing series of examinations.
