President Goodluck Jonathan has directed all Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) and Medical Directors of all federal government owned hospitals and health institutions to issue letters terminating the appointment of all resident doctors in training. This is contained in a circular signed by the permanent secretary ministry of health and dated 13th August, 2014. This directive is with immediate effect. *************************************************** I FEEL THE PRESIDENT HAS DONE THE RIGHT THING. WE CANNOT CONTINUE TO HAVE A COLLECTION OF CAPITALIST SEEKING FINANCIAL GAINS, WHILE THE NATION IS IN THE GRIP OF GRIEVOUS DISEASE. WHERE IS THE HIPPOCRATIC OATH AND ITS ESSENCE? I have a doctor friend. Yesterday when I went to his house, I saw him writing a resignation letter. I ask him why, he said he was planning to resign as soon as they call off d strike because he was afraid of ebola and dat he does not want to die now. This is just like the case of a soldier who refuse to go to war. |

Ride on Mr Presido! You really know how to talk tough when confused and breath hot and cold at the same time. Why this, now that we need all hands on deck to fight the deadly ebola disease? Can't they be paid whatever they are asking for, pending when this ebola is curbed? The Senators and politicians are on high salary, yet they contribute little or nothing to our development! Part of the emergency which has been declared on ebola should have been the immediate recall of Doctors(abi killers?) To tackle the menace. Onyebuchi Chukwu that has been receiving salaries should get ready to be the visiting Doctor in those ebola designated hospitals, afterall, he is a Professor of Medicine. |

What sort of complete cluelessness is this? Common sense dictates that you do not throw away the baby with the bathwater. At this critical time in the health sector, some genius decides to wield the big stick on resident doctors. Forget about trying to discipline them and engage in capacity development instead, while pursuing a prevention programme to halt the spread of Ebola, in every nook and cranny of the country. |

Many people don't have a clue what this means. It means there is NO TRAINING AND NO SPECIALIZATION for doctors. It will not only affects the doctors but it will also affect the patients that need specialist care. Nigerians, pls, try to think broad. |
