South African Police Minister Nkosinathi
Nhleko will investigate whether President Jacob Zuma is financially liable for any part of the 215 million rand ($20 million) spent on upgrading security at his personal residence in Nkandla.

Nhleko will report to cabinet on his findings, Zuma said in a report to Parliament today. The cabinet will also review security policies for the executive "with a view to setting parameters for expenditure and implementation,” Zuma said.


Public Protector Thuli Madonsela, the
nation's corruption ombudsman, said in a
March 19 report that Zuma, 72, unduly
benefited and failed to safeguard public
resources used in the renovation of his home in the eastern KwaZulu-Natal province. Madonsela recommended Zuma repay some of the money.
Zuma has denied wrongdoing and a
ministerial team that investigated the project said in December the president had no role in
authorizing the expenditure.
