Yes, if I were to be infected with the virus, the most sensible and logical thing would be for the scientists to try it on me after getting my consent. Afteral, my chances of survival after contracting the virus is somewhat low.

Mzapp is being tested but it had good trial results before it was used on humans. how can you expect someone that is about to die give you consent to a drug?. they are not in a clear state of mind and even if you bring mirinda, they will take. the state health authorities needs to consider the effect this untested drug will have first and weigh the pros and cons. its not the time to be emotional because people are dying

What i meant is,someone close to death has nothing to lose...whatever gives them hope of survival is worth it,even if its got side effect.

So what do you think?

The issue with many Nigerians is that we always like a fire-brigade approach without thinking deeply. How on earth will a product that is not antiviral work against a virus. A product that has never been tried experimentally on Ebola related cases has suddenly become a cure for Ebola. Even if the Western World have their own issues and faults, must we always embarrass ourselves before the entire world.Last time and even till now, many educated folks that should have known better took part in saline-water therapy due to a fetish mindset, now we are embroiled in the nanosilver saga because we want to prove to the world that we too can cure EVD. Until we adequately invest in research and education and wipe out corruption, greed and all the tribalism that has defined this nation,we will sooner than later find ourselves in a viscous circle.

“Experimental Ebola Drug”: Let’s Set The Record Straight

The euphoria that has greeted the donation of Nanosilver, by an undisclosed Diaspora Nigerian scientist, for treating Ebola patients in Nigeria is understandable. Ebola has no cure, therefore any agent that has the slightest potential, real or imagined, of ameliorating the dare condition of these patients, is welcomed. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recently reported that The Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu revealed that “The only experimental drug we have now is Nanosilver, provided by a Nigerian scientist; details of the drug will be disclosed later to the media”. Prof. Edward Oparaoji Nappsa.org

This statement by Professor Chukwu is misleading and disingenuous and could further ridicule Nigeria and Diaspora Nigerian scientists. His statement can be construed to mean that Nanosilver is either an invention of a Nigerian Scientists which it is not or in a clinical trial by a Nigerian Scientist which it is not. Nanosilver has been around for centuries and is used as food supplements found in health food stores, and as various antiseptic or antibiotic preparations. At this time it does not qualify as an “experimental drug” for Ebola. To categorize a medicinal agent as experimental has a defined meaning, it is a confirmation that the agent has already been cleared and qualified as such, by a governmental regulatory authority, for use in an intended disease condition.

While not sure where in the Diaspora the Nigerian scientist that supplied this compound resides, if in the USA, for instance, the FDA must grant it an investigational new drug (IND) status, meaning it has shown some promise at least against Ebola virus in laboratory animals.

If he or she is in Canada, a clinical trial application (CTA) must have been filed and approved. If in Europe, he or she must have applied and obtained approval from each country where the Nanosilver-Ebola trial will be conducted, as well as register the trial in a database of all European clinical trials, EudraCT.

Although Nanosilver is relatively safe, with its most common side effect being argyria- a condition that turns the skin blue or bluish-grey, and worth trying in Ebola patients, there is no record showing it to neither be an experimental drug for Ebola nor an invention of a Nigerian scientist. Nevertheless, the Scientist who sent the medication should be commended. This is setting the record straight

The people that created zmapp told us they got it from tobacco extracts, its online check it. We know the names of the zmapp researchers, we know their lab, we know their sponsors, we have access to their previous research articles online, we have access to the results of their animal trials. Everything is online. But who is the maker of this nanosilver? What is his name? Who are his researchers? Where are his research articles? You don't know but you want someone's husband, someone's wife and kids to drink nanosilver. Doesn't it sound ridiculous to you?

search University of life science vienna Prof. Herta Steinkellner and you will get much information and you will see how they get the drug.

She is the cofounder of ZMAP - is is made from tabac plants

Can you take otapiapia if I tell you it can cure your ailment.

My people please wise up

Otapiapia is a well known rat poison. From what i read nanosilver has been in use for many things including, disinfectant, food supplement, water purification, killing some bacteria etc.
So if it was proposed as a trial cure for ebola,it can be experimented in rats or monkeys and then on the patients. That why i asked, where Nafdac is? We cant just fold our hands blc US said so. We have 4 fatality already and the number of infected people will definitely rise. We dont have zmapp so lets make due with what we have.

It's not just only about extinction, but also about ethics and morality among other things. It isn't just humane to carry out tests on animals cause we want to better our lot. They are equally shareholders in our planet. Because we are powerful shouldn't justify cruelty. It is cruel to inflict disease and pain on another being, especially without their consents.

TRADELYN: How will they get the American ZMAPP?

I read in newspapers that President Obama disapproved the use on Africans naa undecided

American government does not sell drugs!!! FG ought to know how to do these things. If you are desperate about any new drug or any new product you will go and invest 'seed money' so that the trials can be finalized. FG should 'invest' in ZMAPP instead of discussing with government. Nothing goes for free. It cost millions to come out with a new drug and we should not be thinking that the producers will dole it for free. That simply does not make any business sense. Stop the cap in hand approach to hings. We need ZMapp? Then invest in it and get it and dont turn it into another politics.

I dont know how FG came about the nano silver solution.I hope it is not another 'salt water' or 'kolanut' solution! We cannot toy with lives. Nano Silver is not cheap and it is also an American product, so they do not have anything to lose if we keep importing it. I am sure that their concern is to avoid travelers importing Ebola into the US, so they are also having a stake in this.

Yes.

This is the way politicking makes us stop employing our brains. I am very sure you will willingly take a bullet for a monkey, right. That is how precious monkeys are to the human race than you think you are.

And yes, I am with the LASG on this one. Except the zmapp is not available, I won't support using humans as lab rats for a drug whose manufacturer remains anonymous.

Use rats, monkeys and yes, monkeys instead of humans before graduating to volunteers.
Easy! I have not come here to argue "politicking" and how it "makes us stop employing our brains". I do not support the administration of an under researched drug on humans. I only raised an objective concern that highlights Western hypocrisy. Last year in USA, a police man was fired for shooting @ a squirrel, but the same nation intentionally injects a lethal virus in an animal to text the efficacy of their drug. My question is, "Is it right or wrong" "how negligible or otherwise is the life of an animal" what is the stand of the world in violence against animals" How much does the sacrosanctity of our life compare to that of our animal brothers?

hod898: It's not necessarily about politics. It's about a slave-master relationship in which the Nigerian government sold Nigerians as slaves to the West, such that they only believe drugs approved by WHO and the likes. Instead of taking time to experiment on nano-silver, a drug known to destroy even the deadliest bacteria, the government rejected it. It rejected it! Even if it was eventually found not to cure the disease, the specialists could still study the way it inhibits viral replication and mutation in body cells and possibly develop something similar that can destroy Ebola virus. See, this is often the result of not investing in research and technology in a country. The government does not encourage our scientific geniuses. Around 2010, a nigerian medical doctor developed a cure for HIV. He was beguiled here and humiliated by our health officials. WHO asked him to state his formula but he insisted saying, "until Coca-cola state theirs, I won't mine". They took him to US for 'investigation' and since then, nobody heard of him again. Similar case occured in 2012, only this time it was Paul Orhii, NAFDAC boss that humiliated with inordinate hysteria a prof.of Igbenedion university. Nigerians are one of the most intelligent people on earth, the only problem is that they are barely encouraged. Every sector in this country called Nigeria needs a revolution.
NIGERIANS SHOULD BE ENCOURAGed TO BRING OUT THEIR BEST IN THEIR VARIOUS PROFESSIONS, AND NOT BELITTLED OR MADR TO FEEL INFERIOR. NIGERIANS ARE VERY INTELLIGENT PEOPLE. I DON'T KNOW/UNDERSTAND WHY SOMEONE WILL SAU HE/SHE DISCOVERED THE CURE FOR SOMETHING AND NO ONE WOULD TAKE THEM SERIOUS. AND WHY SUBJECT THE PERSON TO THE APPROVAL OF U.S? REALLY? THE U.S WILL APPROVE OF SOMETHING BEFORE YOU USE YOUR SENSES? WHY TAKE THE PERSON TO THE U.S TO PROVE THEMSELVES? DON'T YOU HAVE AGENCIES HERE TO DO THAT? DOES THE U.S BRING THEIR OWN SCIENTISTS TO NIGERIA FOR APPROVAL BEFORE TESTING OUT ANYTHING/USING ANY DRUGS?? CAPITA NO! YOU ONLY LEARN OF THEIR CURE AFTER EVERYTHING IS DONE AND IT'S SHIPPED TO YOUR COUNTRY FOR USE!
THE SOONER WE COME TO OUR SENSES, THE BETTER FOR THIS NATION. PLEASE GET RID OF INFERIORITY COMPLEX. NIGERIANS HAVE BEEN NATURALLY ENDOWED WITH WHAT THE WORLD SHOULD ENVY...THAT'S WHY SOME PEOPLE HATE YOU, COS THEY KNOW YOU GOT IT IN YOU!!
LEAVE INFERIORITY COMPLEX AND SEE YOURSELF AND YOUR OWN PEOPLE AS YOU SHOULD....Winners, Geniuses, the best.

NIGERIA CAN FIND THE CURE TO HIV/AIDS, CANCER AND EVEN THIS EBOLA IF AND ONLY IF WE APPLT THE ABOVE.

ALL THESE AGENCIES WE HAVE IN THIS COUNTRY SHOULD STOP ACTING LIKE IDIOTS AND STOP LICKING THE BUTTS OF FOREIGN COUNTRIES. YOU ARE THERE TO DO YOUR JOBS. DO IT AND STOP LOOKING FOR ASSISTANCE OUTSIDE. THEY DON'T LIKE YOU..THEY DON'T THINK MUCH OF YOU...THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO PROGRESS MORE THAN THEM., SO QUIT THE FOOLISHNESS AND TRUST YOURSELVES.

BTW it is apparently nothing to do with any naija scientist but typical snake oil that has been peddled by Indians and others for years. Being the usual gbogboise medicine one should be surprised that a so called medical doctor health minister in naija fell for this scam but I guess the billions at stake explains everything.

Mayo Clinic's view:

http://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-living/consumer-health/expert-answers/colloidal-silver/faq-20058061

My dad takes colloidal silver for his health, but is it safe?
Answers from Brent A. Bauer, M.D.
Colloidal silver isn't considered safe or effective for any of the health claims manufacturers make. Silver has no known purpose in the body. Nor is it an essential mineral, as some sellers of silver products claim.
Colloidal silver products are made of tiny silver particles suspended in a liquid — the same type of precious metal used in jewelry, dental fillings, silverware and other consumer goods.
Colloidal silver products are usually marketed as dietary supplements that are taken by mouth. Colloidal silver products also come in forms to be injected or applied to the skin.
Manufacturers of colloidal silver products often claim that they are cure–alls, boosting your immune system, fighting bacteria and viruses, and treating cancer, HIV/AIDS, shingles, herpes, eye ailments and prostatitis.
However, no sound scientific studies to evaluate these health claims have been published in reputable medical journals. In fact, the Food and Drug Administration has taken action against some manufacturers of colloidal silver products for making unproven health claims.
It's not clear how much colloidal silver may be harmful, but it can build up in your body's tissues over months or years. Most commonly, this results in argyria (ahr–JIR–e–uh), a blue-gray discoloration of your skin, eyes, internal organs, nails and gums. While argyria doesn't pose a serious health problem, it can be a cosmetic concern because it doesn't go away when you stop taking silver products.
Rarely, excessive doses of colloidal silver can cause possibly irreversible serious health problems, including kidney damage and neurological problems such as seizures. Colloidal silver products may also interact with medications, including penicillamine (Cuprimine, Depen), quinolone antibiotics, tetracycline and thyroxine (Levothroid, Levoxyl, Synthroid) medications.
