Scenario: you pick the dictionary to look up a certain word, right?

In the process you see another word that seems fascinating..you abandon the first word to "quickly" check the new one and once again, there's yet another interesting word you just have to look up...

On and on and on, the cycle continues until it dawns on you that there was something you were going to check only you don't recall what it was

And am asking..Is there any explanation for this funny pattern.
