All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has said that Nigeria loses about N125 billion annually to fish importation.

Vice Chairman of AFAN in charge of fisheries, Mr Akinwale Aminu, who spoke in Lokoja yesterday, said the “fish importation jamboree” must stop if the nation is serious about transforming the agricultural sector.

“Nigeria has the capacity to produce enough fish for local consumption as well as for exportation but government needs to do its part.

Aside the benefit to farmers, the fish
business can also generate employment opportunities, reduce insurgency as well as improve foreign exchange,” he said.
