Boko Haram Attacks Nigerian Soldiers in Cameroon

Yaounde — Cameroon says its military has killed some 30 suspected Boko Haram militants who attacked areas where 480 Nigerian troops had crossed over during a battle with the insurgents. Nigeria said the troops crossed over while making a tactical maneuver.

Cameroon’s state radio reports government troops beat back two attempts by suspected Boko Haram militants to enter the country’s northern territory through a locality that shares a boundary with Nigeria’s Borno state, stronghold of the militant group. During a confrontation Tuesday, the soldiers killed 11 insurgents while 16 more were killed in an earlier attack on Monday.

Cameroonian soldiers seized heavy weapons and destroyed one of the vehicles the militants were using.

The attack took place in areas where Nigerian soldiers had crossed over during a battle with the insurgents. The Nigerian military said the soldiers handed their weapons to Cameroonian authorities in line with standard practice and as an indication that they were not on any offensive against Cameroon.

After the attacks, Cameroon’s state radio announced that the country’s president, Paul Biya, had ordered that the Nigerian soldiers be escorted back to their country.

“The head of state has instructed that the columns of Nigerian soldiers who entered Cameroonian territory should be camped in specific locations and supervised by the Cameroonian army. The Nigerian soldiers have been provided feeding, medical treatment and fuel on instructions of the head of state. At the same time the process of accompanying the Nigerian soldiers back to their country is under way under Cameroonian military escort,” said Biya.

Colonel Didier Badjeck, a Cameroon military spokesman, told VOA that allegations made in Cameroonian media that the incidence was a defection were unfounded, but added that they were particularly careful over the presence of the Nigerian soldiers as Boko Haram militants could also disguise as a regular army and attack them.

He said people should support but allow the Cameroon army to handle the situation and fight Boko Haram as professional soldiers. He adds that they cannot neglect details in a war front and are consequently examining any potential actions of Boko Haram.

Cameroon shares much of Nigeria’s porous northeastern border.

Boko Haram militants been blamed for a rise in kidnappings, fighting and criminal acts across the border from Nigeria’s Borno state.

Many surrounding villages where Boko Haram gunmen carry out attacks regularly are becoming increasingly deserted.

Idrismusty97: Cameroon are really trying, let them wipe out all these militants from their borders. Boko haram should have realize by now that "Cameroon is a no go area". Our only problem now is Chad and Niger republic, their borders are just too porous with little or no presence of military personnels there.

If those two countries cooperate with Nigeria to fight the terrorists as the Cameroon is doing presently, very soon those clogs in the wheel of Nigerian progress would be a thing of the past.

More grease to their elbows, May God give them the good fight over the terrorists. Their memories will soon be cut off. According to the language, insha allah, forgive me if I don't get spelling well. Nigeria will rejoice in victory.

Boko Haram are already in charge of not only maiduguri but the whole nigeria. Can you imagine the resources that have been deployed by our gov't to fight for rescue of the little area they are effectively occupying now? Since the Boko got out of hand the budget for security & defense has been the biggest. That is besides the extra budget spending so called security vote. Not even in the military era have we Nigerians seen the boys in khaki (who in normal circumstances are supposed to be in seclucive place called barracks) in our mixed like now.
Therefore, if the Boko Haram are consuming such our huge resources and getting big time attention, then there is no gain saying that they are really incharge.
Boko haram can never be incharge of my state it you they will be incharge by GOD grace how did Gej spend that you are all making noise ukraine spend 3billion us dollars buying military hardware, isreal spend 10 billion us dollars fighting hamas in 55 days so keep quite if you have nothing to write

bros, its unfair to regards your own military that way.One thing you fail to realise is that,in any jungle welfare, tactical withrawal is a viable option when the enemy effective fire is beyond own's troop fire. You live to fight another day, that's is the logic.Nobody will run as soldier from battle which is tantamount to cowardice and such, the deserter will be dealt with and cult marshalled. Please let start to project our army in a positive way.

Truth is bitter. He is not condemning Nigeria but speaking nothing but the truth that Nigeria is not giant of Africa. We can't continue to lie to ourselves. The realities are there even before these small group of Boko boys that we can not faced emerged. Ghana, CIV, Cam, etc are better organised & more likely to developed than us. Lets even not talk about S Africa & North Africans despite their recent crisis. What is event giant about Nigeria if not corruption, ethnicity, religious bigotry & guilibiliousness Let stop this self delusions that we are giant while we can't defense ourselves. Others are laughing at us.
The Bk is just a test of strenght and our capacity to create a reformable defence. You can compare those three countrie with ours in population and ethnicity. Thoughi agreed with you on corruption and religious bigotry.
