Its funny how you think Seun would have another job aside developing Nairaland. The banner ads you see every time you open his website in your browser fetch him naira every blessed month. Now that you know, you will be like: Aaaw, I would like to marry Seun. SMH for girls.

Now you are talking. Seun to me is intelligent but lacks enough business acumen. He spends much of his time programming, banning, moving stuff to front page, instructing the super mods etc. He should hire people who will do all the head-aching aspect of the job and spend his time to create a 'world'. He should spend much of his time to build his business and not his website (only business minded people will understand this) He should manage Nairaland as a business and not as a website. He should think like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg and not like David Karp. Mark is a programmer but has programmers who are better than him doing all the work while he travel around the world in search of what people really want online. I am not saying Seun should be like Mark but who says he cant beat Mark. With the resources he has and enough lucre lying fallow his bank account, if he is wise, he would create another website where everyone around the world would embrace, a website that can be sold for as high as 10 billion dollars. Seun, think. I have so much to tell you but I have my own business too.

Probably never. Running a public company is no fun. The only advantage of going public is that it can make you a stinkingly rich person like Dangote. In exchange for the constant headache of keeping your large and ever-changing collection of shareholders happy always.

Go and start reading some business books young man. The above statement tell me so much about how you think.

Do you run a public company? Is it listed on the stock exchange? If not, what makes you think you know better?

Seun: Do you run a public company? Is it listed on the stock exchange? If not, what makes you think you know better?

I do not run a public business but I have a mentor and godfather who did(He's late now) plus I have read hundreds of books on business and stock and would finger myself as "The One who knows" but not an authority. I have built a business too and lost millions of naira but trying to get myself up again (Building some businesses again), so I have gained some experience here and there having made money and lost them all just like my late godfather and the mentors I admire both home and in America (They later bounced back and I shall too) and trying not to make the same mistake again. I might not seem to you a guru now because I am not as rich as you or have a better business but to those who believe my words and take my advice, blessed have been their businesses.

Living in this world is head-aching, running a business or doing a salary job is tiresome. Why not just nurture the idea of putting your company to the public and face the same headaching and tiresome task if you dont. Its a win win situation or lose lose depending on your view of life.

Donfamous: My question oga Seun is. When u created nairaland (2005) browsing wasn't as rampant as these days, no BB etc so what did u see that drove to create it, e.g for business purpose, interaction,? etc
I answered this question here: www.cp-africa.com/2011/03/17/cp-africas-interview-with-seun-osewa-founder-of-nairaland/ In those days, though Internet access at home was rare and expensive, there were cybercafes everywhere and it was clear that Internet usage was growing.

Have u ever got really angry or sad about this site, maybe becos its not giving what u want or becos of false allegation, hacking ?or etc. Ur experience will be appreciated at great deal.
Yes. I get sad when I encounter people who would rather spend their time trying to destroy someone else's business than building their own. sad

What do you recommend as in book for an up coming programmer like me, who don't even know the basic of programming

obainojazz: Mr seun ....why can't we change usernames...or maybe have a temporary one...so many ppl feels dis way sir
When a name has been mentioned many times on the forum, changing it will cause those old mentions to be invalidated. We can't have that!

Linda Ikeji is one of my celebrity crushes, btw. It's amazing that one woman's blog draws more traffic than every Nigerian website except NL!

Dear Seun,

Kindly prevail on Ademola of Triple A Autos to refund me back my 500K being an initial deposit on a car transaction I entered with him but he failed to deliver the car and still will not refund me back my 500K. The car has been sold by copart another buyer so why is Ademola withholding my money? Funny that his advert is still flying here on nairaland making more potential prey fall into his hands

Below is the thread I created on this issue

DickDastardly: Mr seun, oil and gas is presently the bedrock of our economy, do you have plans of going into that area in the near future?
Since (1) It's not particularly interesting and (2) I'm not aware of any pressing need in the sector that I'm equipped to satisfy, I must say no.

Will you someday go into politics?
I'll never be a career politician but, when I'm very old (at least 70), if Nigerian politics has improved by then, I might serve at the local level.

vhickky: why did you drop out of o.a.u and would you say o.a.u contributed to who you are today in one way or the other?
I didn't know it then, but at the end of the first semester of my third year at OAU, I developed a medical condition which made it harder for me to cope normally with my studies over the course of the second semester of my third year. I stopped attending lectures that were far away, then I stopped attending all lectures, then I started missing tests, then I also started stabbing exams after I fumbled the second one. I wasn't used to failing. I thought I could redeem myself by pursuing my programming dreams and achieving something great but due to my condition it was also hard for me to code, so I kept jumping from one project to another one and I couldn't complete any of them. It was an awful time. Also, I was studying Electronics & Electrical engineering (because my folks truly felt that Computer Science was "too narrow" and Elect/Elect also includes Computer Science) and it had finally dawned on me that the closest we were going to get to Computer Science was solving abstract maths problems about the voltage and current and movement of electrons in transistors. That was very disappointing. The best thing that could have happened to me then is if I got my condition properly diagnosed and treated, but I didn't know and nobody told me.

Idrismusty97: Seun what is the criteria for topics placed on the trending section? I thought it is done automatically by the amount of traffics some thread
Yes, you are 100% correct. We should probably consider other factors as well, though.

dejt4u: @Seun
pls why cant you work with GSM service providers.. I mean MTN, Airtel, Glo, Etisalat nd the rest so that we will be getting updates on NL through SMS (e.g likes, Mentions and if possible, thread updates) just as facebook and twitter..?
Thanks for your suggestion, though it's not a question.

emmyvet: What do you have to say to a young programmer who is confused on the language to specialize on, currently he has the basic knowledge of python, java and html coding,(learnt all from Nairaland programming section) and wish to go for a proffessional training on Embedded software development or mobile software development.
Please sir from you experience in programming which of this is more relevant in Nigerian ict world or which of them can fetch more capital??
Note*
»»»I have passion for all the languages I have learnt but wish to specialize on the one that has the chance of fetching more money in Nigeria.
»»I am a computer science student aiming at self employment.

Finally why do you choose to be a master in python programming language?
For success as a self-employed programmer, you should focus on webapp development and, to a lesser extent, mobile app development. You should study as many languages as you can and specialise in the languages that make you most productive. The general purpose languages I admire most are Scala, Python and C#. They're awesome. For mobile development, Java and Swift are worth learning. Don't neglect special-purpose programming languages like SQL, HTML, CSS, and Javascript: it's compulsory for every developer to know them. I use Python because it's the language that makes me most productive. Things that take 1hr to write in Java or 15m in Scala/C# may take just 5m in Python.

This is not true. Moderators paste topics on the FP base on their interests and trending issues and sometimes based on recommendations.
