Son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Lt. Col Adeboye Obasanjo, who was shot in the ferocious Michika battle between the Nigerian military and Boko Haram has expressed eagerness to return to the battle front.

Obasanjo stated this on Tuesday when former Vice President Atiku Abubakar visited him at a government medical facility in Yola, Adamawa State on Tuesday where he is recuperating.

Atiku, who was in Yola over the weekend to cast his vote in the APC gubernatorial primaries and to collect his permanent voters' card on learning that Col Obasanjo was being treated at a government medical facility in Yola went to visit him Tuesday afternoon, during which .Atiku expressed gladness to find Col Obasanjo in in high spirit.

A source at the hospital told Per Second News  that Atiku, who recently mended fences with his former boss was impressed to learn from the injured officer of his readiness to return to the battle front to deal with the insurgents.

Atiku was quoted to have told Lt. Col Obasanjo that he was impressed to see him display the type of courage associated with his former boss, President Obasanjo.

“He was even marching before me even as he was recovering from gunshots,” a source quoted Atiku as saying.

The former Vice President was said to have wished Col Obasanjo speedy recovery from the injuries he sustained from gunshot in an operation to push back Boko Haram insurgents from Michika in Adamawa state.

Doyin Okupe, a senior aide to President Goodluck Jonathan, said on his Twitter account that Obasanjo had been shot in the thigh, but was in good spirits.

Meanwhile, Per Second News gathered from a top defense official that Nigerian air force jets were bombarding the Islamist group's positions in and around the town of Michika, the government official, who asked not to be named, said the military is also hitting the militants at Madagali, Bazza and Uba.

"Reinforcement of troops is ongoing, and I can tell you the fight is tense," the official in Abuja said. Nigeria's defense headquarters has not provided details of the fighting, despite repeated requests. Email to Gen Olukolade was not replied as at the time of filing this report.
