What the heck! Did they ever hear that nigeria has the antidode of EVD? The help we can offer is this - they should stay in their countries and then we go over there to assist rather than having them here to make things worse.

The truth is until Africa can develop to such an extent one African country can have the solution for neigbouring nations we cannot begin to talk of development in Africa. This's exactly what I predicted to happen in Africa when we get science right.

SporaD8: Thanks for the adjustment.
...but for the sake of everything that is good, why is this dude fashola not yet operating at federal level?
A big fish is swimming in shallow waters here!
the same people asking him to contest for federal level will be the ones smearing his name by calling him Mr Elitist, Mr Capitalist, Tinubu's Dog, Tinubu's slave. All in favour of Ebele's agenda. I've given up on Nigerians. I'll rather him stay in Lagos where he is appreciated. Let Nigerians get what is coming to them, at least they've been warned enough.

Get your facts straight! Lagos state has not received any help from Fg, Fashola set up and is managing ebola centres without help from Jonathan or Fg. Lagos is like a country in a country.
FrankC3: No country approaches a State within another sovereign country for any kind of help. Besides, the EVD control center in Lagos is not run by the LASG, it is being managed by the Ministry of Health. Liberian Government cannot approach Lagos State government for any kind of help, same way Nigeria cannot approach the California State for any kind of help.

The best that happened in this case is that the LASG collaborated with the efforts of the Federal Ministry of Health. The Director should not pretend that LASG was responsible for the EVD control efforts, no. FMH was. State Ministries of Health supported mainly from enlightenment drive, the very type that the director was doing when he/she made that statement.

In all truth and fairness, I think that the EVD has been contained in Nigeria through the efforts of ordinary Nigerians and not the government alone. This said the government has also played its own part though a large protion of which has been politicized and backed up by media propaganda. You need to see how cautious ordinary folks on the streets of Lagos have become. Visit banks and other organizations and see how security personnell have become overnight doctors with their handdthermometers and sanitizers. Churches and mosques are not left out. A friend attended a wedding last week and the owner of the event center where the reception took place was in charge of providing security. All guests were forced to wash their hands and temperature taken before they could enter the venue. The bride amd groom were not left out.
My heart goes out to the people in other West African countries but I think that they should be able to contain the EVD if they can take the initiative instead of just depending on help from from NGOs and volunteers

May God bless and protect us all.

Honestly, sometime I wonder the kind of educated people on this forum. You mean Lagos state can act in isolation in dealing with other countries without the permission of the federal government?

Educated? or you mean educated but ignorant. That is how to describe anyone who said it , those who believed it and those spreading the news that a foreign govt will approach a state govt for help
Soon we will hear that Siera Leone has approached Dr Adadevoh hospital for help.

Abeg has fashola found the cure for Ebola?!

or are you ignorant of the fact that combating Ebola in Lagos was more of a Federal effort than state?! Or do you think the control measures put in place at Murtala Mohammed Airport (A Federal Airport) was done by Fashola?

Or the funding to the control centres were done by Fashola?!

Nigga shut it there. Who raised the Ebola alert? Jona? If Lagos hadn't raised the alert and started spreading containment nets, would the FG have been able to take over? This same FG that took 2 weeks before finally acknowledging the Chibok girls were kidnapped, would have immediately reacted to the first Ebola scare? Please! FG took over after 75percent of the work had be done by LASG, no way you can deny that.

thwarrior72: Nigerians should be happy that EVD was imported through a wealthy and recognized mad man, it would've been a different scenario, were it to be by a poor man through one of our porous borders.

It would've been devastating and had to control, had EVD broken out through the village, where EVD awareness is very low and coupled with low sanitation.
the emboldened is what led to the wide spread of EVD in Liberia and was further worsened by ignorance of a native doctor who claimed to have a cure... of course she too died from it. But it was too late because people from neighbouring nations were coming for her"cure".

Technically, it could. According to the U.S. Constitution, a state or its entity may enter with foreign entities cultural or economic agreement that does not affect foreign policy or security, and WILL NOT make or sign treaties. That's solely the power of Congress and President respectively. As long as U.S. and that country have a trade relationship which is part of the treaty, then it's possible.

Then how about Nigerian constitution??

Look, no one is saying FG did nothing. FG took charge for once and its commendable. But what is bad here is people trying to claim FG did all the work and Lagos didn't play a big role in containment. That is very unfair. Both of them deserve the credit. If other countries come to Lagos to learn, it is also a good image for the FG. Afterall, Lagos is still part of Nigeria.

Dunce, California is it's own economy and does business directly with foreign countries. You used a bad analogy.

The only thing California cannot do is enact any laws that superseds federal laws.

And is Nigeria practicing the kinda federalism practiced in US?

BRF indeed is a success and I attest Head to toe to that, But lets be real even if GEJ is a failure(Assumption) He is the Head and must have been consulted by foreign Diplomats on things pertaining to Nigeria, before they got onto the States involved, its called Protocol. All Countries know these things. Besides our amiable BRF know too much to fall victim to such prey.

Yes commendation should go to the FG, LASG and their agencies in the Health, information and security sector and the general public for their cooperation on this EVD crisis
Several attempts have been made to apppropriate credit for LASG only both by several misguided elements and APC politicians which I find uncharitable.
Is it LASG that also managed the cases at PH and Enugu?

I am someone who deals in proven facts..

And then the Nigga said 75%... grin Every Nairalander is a statistician.. Back up your stats with facts.. Until I see a fact sheet showing the works of the LASG broken down into milestones (percentile) and showing the chronology down to where the FG took over from LASG, I call bullshit on your stat.

Secondly, the Alarm was not raised by LASG but by Late Doc Ada of First Consultant Hospital where Sawyer was admitted. Immediately after the alarm was raised, the Ministry of Health swung into action.

Asking who raised the Alert?! grin A Man named Sawyer flew into Nigeria to attend a Conference and fell ill whilst in Nigeria (like hundreds of thousands do everyday). Upon admission and preliminary diagonosis, the Dr. held him down on suspicion of Ebola and raised the Alarm.. Upon verification (which can only be done by the Ministry of Heath in conjuction with the WHO), the F.G set up a drag net to contain the spread. The Presidency used it Dipomatic relations with the U.S to get the experimental ZMAPP drug released to Nigeria.. Even the fabled Nano Silver drug was tried out as well.. The Ministry of Health sent out awareness text messages to all Mobile Phone users in the nation with emergency helplines to call if a suspicion of Ebola was detected in your area. 11 Billion or so was released with immediate effect by the F.G to help set up logistics nationwide to deal with the situation..

Please Nigga, outline what exactly the LASG did without mincing words..

Perosnally I don't have problem with our great nation Nigeria rendering help to fellow African countries in the spirit of brotherhood with love but it is quite disheartening to see the help seekers showing total disrespect/disregard in most cases. In my opinion let's shorten our helping hand for now untill we have achieved certain level of overall improvement or performance within us.
