Darteyyyy: @slylg.... If you're efik and you know it..... Marry me na..... Or your younger or older sister, I no mind. I wouldn't want my first child to be named Idongesit. It means comforter or Consolation. Because i don't want a situation where my child will come as a comfort or consolation. I want my children to come at the right time. Some people just name their children without looking into the deep meaning of the name. 1 Like |

Re: Beautiful Names In Efik/ibibio by ITbomb(m): 8:49am On Sep 17, 2014 |
SlyIg: @OP, point of correction Obong doesn't mean God, rather it refers to Lord, Abasi is for God and Edidem is King. Also Itoro doesn't mean Glory, it means Praise And finally, I'm yet to see anybody answer the name 'Itoro Obong ' it is usually just Itoro Btw, what does Isobara means? 1 Like |
Re: Beautiful Names In Efik/ibibio by SlyIg(f): 11:57am On Sep 17, 2014 |
ITbomb: These are mere literal meanings anyway. Owing to Glory be to God being translated to Itoro enyene Abasi. Though there's been that argument on ground already. It can as well be praise God, that's Itoro Obong. Then, Isobara though the bearers of the name are from my place, I don't really know what it means. Many have traced the name to the history of the first man that answered the name not to be from our tribe. So I think that's just it. Its the accountant general's family that is bearing that isobara of a name. |
Re: Beautiful Names In Efik/ibibio by ITbomb(m): 2:31pm On Sep 17, 2014 |
SlyIg:Believe me, I'm trying my very best not to turn this into an Internet argument but Glory be to God is directly translated as Ubong enyene Abasi Which invariably means that Glory refer to Ubong not Itoro which are not literal but direct meanings. When next you hear, 'Ubong ye Itoro ye Ukpono enyene Abasi', understand that it cannot refer to the same thing, it means, 'Glory and Praise and Honor be to God' Also *to be continue* 2 Likes |
Re: Beautiful Names In Efik/ibibio by SlyIg(f): 2:50pm On Sep 17, 2014 |
ITbomb: You're right there. But if you're a catholic, you may have to accept it that way. Glory be to God is translated as Itoro enyene Abasi in the church. My little niece whose name is Itoro can never agree with them that her name is translated as Glory. I guess your name is Itoro. Lol. |
