I hate to burst EVERYONE'S bubbles but Nigeria is only a FRACTION of the 13 countries that contributed to the slave trade so your "predictions" are off as the probability is 1 of 13. |

From: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-191038.224.html#msg3446997 Na true James Brown looks like someone you would call CletusLMFAO! True! KB1: I agree with all EXCEPT Marques Houston and his brother Omarion, they look Cameroonian, although there are Igbos in Cam. which my "ex" who is from cameroon is always mistaken for Igbo, they still do not look pure Igbo, perhaps a mixture. Usain Bolt looks Igbo too and Shabba Ranks (all of the ppl you guys listed do not belong to just one African country/tribe, the DNA only goes by what is in them mostly. We diasporan blacks are mixtures). Tupac is def. of Igbo descent (or was R.I.P), he looked like my ex who i mentioned before. |

tupac's father seems to be of tuareg ancestry. |
Re: Black Celebrities, What African peoples could they be from? by ezeagu(m): 11:51pm On Dec 07, 2010 |
MzDarkSkin: A lesson you should learn about Africans (Nigerians): There's no such thing as 'mixed' in the community, you are your father, or what you (reasonably) choose to be. |
Re: Black Celebrities, What African peoples could they be from? by DaRapture: 3:44pm On Dec 08, 2010 |
ezeagu: Yeah, and that's why I keep telling her that she's an African-American rather than jamaican, since her Father was AA. |
Re: Black Celebrities, What African peoples could they be from? by Busybody2(f): 4:34pm On Dec 08, 2010 |
MzDarkSkin: As an AA who was able to deduce correctly that those dude look Ibo, then those Cameroonian Ibo's are prolly the same as those in Nigeria, and reason they kinda look mixed is that they were forced to mix a lot with those White settlers and Slave Traders back in dem days. This thread is just a tongue-in-cheek jokey thread anyway, that is why every tribe is trying to claim the pretty and handsome celebrities only So you, my dear MzDarkskin, are from the beautiful Yoruba tribe from IIbadan with the beautiful name of Sukuratu, the only thing you are missing is those ibadan facial tribal marks to complement your beauty |
Re: Black Celebrities, What African peoples could they be from? by Nobody: 8:26pm On Dec 09, 2010 |
^^are you ok? I am not Yoruba lol. ezeagu: If that is the case than we Americans, Brazilians, Puerto Ricans and Jamaicans ;etc are not African because regardless of African "law" we are a mix of different tribes. It is what it is. My ancestry stretches from Democratic Congo - Senegal as a 50% Jamaican 50% American person. So because of your "not believing in mixed African" theory despite my features and dark skin I am not African. Interesting. . .as Igbo/ Yoruba/etc as these folks look they are mixed with different tribes. This is cool to see and guess but facts are facts. We are mixed. DaRapture that is not-so-smart. Slap yourself. I am Jamaican-American. |

There is no denying that Usher has Igbo roots. lol Igbo blood is running through many African Americans, because the British got most of their slaves from the Bight of Biafra. |
Re: Black Celebrities, What African peoples could they be from? by ezeagu(m): 3:20am On Dec 10, 2010 |
MzDarkSkin: I don't think you understood me. When I said that you are what your father is, I mean paternal line (in some cases, like some Igbo and Akan cultures, maternal line). You are only your great great great great great great great, etc. grandfathers descendant (many names of wives are not recorded, sadly). So if your paternal line traces back to Aba, then you're an Aba girl, even if 'genetics' tells you you're 50% Irish. I didn't mean that if you're 'mixed' you can't be African, actually I meant the complete opposite. There are groups in Africa that are more mixed than most African descendants in the Caribbean and the rest, (Tuareg, Northern Sudanese, etc.) This is the reason Westerners (generally) are confused by the Northern Sudanese people who say that they are Arab even when they look like a family portrait of the Snipes family, it's a paternal identity (from despoil), that's how African ancestors maintained their communities. Before you say that it is silly to ignore your other ancestors, understand the social and spiritual consequences in many African cultures of claiming (as in splitting yourself between) different ancestors. If you have not stuck with your maternal line (for whatever reasons, e.g abandonment by the father) or paternal line, you're not going to inherit your maternal grandfathers land, you're not going to call on your maternal grandfathers when pouring libation after his death (and calling his ancestors), and you're not going to be part of your mothers village, unless you have moved there for whatever reason. There are other things like wars, religion that play into the lineage. Don't think that I'm saying in traditional African societies you cannot talk about your other ancestors (because its done often), you're just not considered aligned to those who have direct descendants. I'm not telling a country woman of Marcus Garvey and Bob Marley that she is not African. Which leads me back to my point, Bob Marley was aligned to his maternal paternal line and claimed those ancestors (his mothers fathers). |

ezeagu: In the spirit of fun speculation, let me throw a tough one. How about Vanessa L. Williams? I chose a photo that should predate any cosmetic surgery she may have had. Is she too mixed or can anyone speculate? This should be interesting. |

@ ezeagu, I dont have to believe in it but I accept it @topic: people forget that it not just a Caribbean - African or an American - African connection. I know SOOOOOOO many Caribbeans and Americans who look alike too. For example: Busy Signal & Project Pat & (Busy a Jamaican dancehall star) (Pat an American rapper) both of these guys look alike, Pat is just a chubbier version. They SOUND just alike (listen beyond the accent) and I believe they are of Nigerian descent as they both favor. . . .Nollywood actor Femi Branch (esp. Pat ) *MzDarkSkin goes to her cd player and puts on Project Pat - Blunt to my lips * |

How about Mae Jemison? Mae Jemison: The first black female astronaut to go into space (who is light-skinned) had no discernible European ancestry in her admixture test. Out of all the famous guinea pigs, I expected her test to come back with the most mixed ancestry. Not. Her ancestry reveals her to be 84% sub-Saharan African descent, 13% East Asian, and 3% Native American. Researchers were unable to find a conclusive match for her in terms of a specific African tribe. Researchers explained her high East Asian ancestry (for black Americans) to the fact that Chinese laborers were sent to Mississippi - her family's ancestral state - in the late 1800s, so apparently one of her great-grandfathers may have been such a laborer. She was surprised to be of Asian descent , although she indicated that people had told her such during her travels to Asia. She figured that it was just traces of Native American ancestry.
