Every man is as highly programmable as a computer. The only difference is that in the case of man, it takes a lot of time, sometimes even a lifetime but the fact still remains that just as we can uninstall and reinstall software in a computer, a man’s mind can be reprogrammed. The word ‘transform’ simply means to change the form or nature of something.
Personal Transformation is therefore the change in a person’s nature, character and thoughts which results in a change in his circumstances and the environment around him. It is a process that can otherwise be called Personal Rebirth.
If there must be wholeness and completeness in the society, three major components must be in place. They are the individuals that make up the society, institutions of which the family institution is the smallest before the society as a whole. Transformed individuals will result in transformed societal institutions which will in turn lead to a transformed society. A transformed individual will manifest divinity, integrity, socio-moral values and virtues of the like.
Nigeria is in dire need of societal transformation, change and development but this cannot occur unless all of us that make up the members of the society commit to personal transformation and rebirth, unless we decide to unlearn things that need to be unlearned and reprogram our minds for positive impact in our society. Even the corrupt politician wants honest and trust-worthy people in his cabinet. If our nation has problems, sincerely speaking, it then means that we, the individuals that make up the society have problems. It also means that our country as a whole will not change until we change.
Nigeria is one of the most religious countries in the world, yet there seems to be a prevalence and predominance of corruption, violence, tribalism and the like, the same things that are “against” what we claim to preach. What exactly is our problem? We cannot continue to deceive ourselves. We are our own problem and until we sort out ourselves, this nation will grow from bad to worse.
