A Nairalander Near Ebola Experience. by psp2pc(m): 4:33pm On Sep 24, 2014
I was in a bank some days ago and they pointed that infra red temperature gun at me to test my temperature and the thing started beeping..meaning my temperature was very high,exactly 38.1°c, whereas averagely it should have been reading 36+°c. Internal heat and Panic immediately took over me, the people in queue behind me started shifting back including my pal that we went to the bank together (friend indeed for that matter) ;
from my past research i know symptoms of Ebola is a temp of 38.5+°c.
I then told the security man to clean the temperature gun well and retest me..lo and behold it read 36.5°c.
I told him to retry it again, and same 36.5°c.
I just began to imagine how it is like to test positive for Ebola. the panic that follows, the straight away stigmatisation and all.
I won't lie,I almost fainted that day, but thanks to God, your faithfully is here, alive, well, kicking good, no fever or sickness whatsoever. Praise the Lord.
So has any nairalander experienced anything like this?

Mine happened on the 10th of september. I must tell you that the fear alone of the stigmatisation can make an infected patient run from isolation.

The day before, that's the 9th was a tuesday. I went with my colleagues to the teaching hospital for quality assurance monitoring. We are well known in that section of the hospital so we don't observe protocol. We can enter any ward and office/consulting room and that was what I was doing. I was being very careful though to not touch anything. I didn't see/hear of any ebola patient oooo. Later that evening, I had a small outdoor party to attend and I was outdoors till like 10pm. When I got home and took my bath, I noticed some rashes on the back of my hand. Tiny rashes scattered and itching me.
I manged to sleep that night but woke up later to start scratching. By the time I went to work the next day which was 10th, the rashes had extended to my arms. I showed my colleagues who said it was mosquito that I wasn't used to such late outdoor parties. I agreed. On the 11th the rashes became more severe and one of them said it could be Ebola. She said it jokingly but I became afraid!
I started reading up about Ebola. I looked up to God and cried out in fear "Father, na so we go dey dey?" He looked at me, puzzled and was like "what is this one saying?" I didn't have any other symptoms. But on friday, I went to bed and woke up around 2am with serious discomfort. I vomited 2ce before. I went to work. I was alarmed already.
I cancelled my itinerary for the day and decided to stay indoors. On a second thought, I called up a doctor friend and he promised to come around, I told him what my fears were and he was like, "better go to the teaching hospital" , he never came! By now I was alarmed and that must have increased my temperature. I called a matron from the teaching hospital and she confirmed there was no case of Ebola in the hospital, I think that was when I calmed down. By saturday, I used robb on the rashes, and the itch subsided. By sunday, the rashes were all dead, by monday/tuesday I had my beautiful toned skin back!
Till today, I still don't know the source of the rashes and I didn't take any medication for it. I guess it was mosquito bite all along grin

Mine was serious too.... It all started on the day of drink+bath with salt water. I fell for the foolish trick nd my system changed dat day.... Dnt blame me dat I feel for d trick, I leave close to dat yaba hospital nd my work place is at ajah, I pass dat obalende hospital everyday nd I enter brt everyday.
So on that salt water day, I started feeling feverish, I ws like God, not this time oo.. So I started counting days.. On the 3rd day, 5 people around my sit at work developed fever, I ws like mogbe ooo, my cousin where I stay too developed fever on my 4th day. I ws like olorun shaanu mioo, so I started avoiding contact with people.
2days after, I felt like vomiting nd I felt sore throat... This time, I wanted to start crying. Bt later d sore throat relieved me. I started reading about ebola seriously online.
At a point, I couldn't use toilet for a week... So I went for malaria injection... Normally my malaria doesn't go unless I take injection, so wen I took d injection, I ws very owk for anoda 2days, afterwhich it came back with full force.
My cousin kept asking ur malaria neva go, I asked him same question too. I ws like we are in trouble oo. Bt I ws like if this Ebola, I for don show more signs cuz it was about 2.5wks already, so I ws relieved. I later went for test, it turned out to be typhoid nd I felt very very relieved after d test result.
Falling seek during Ebola period is a dieeee grin

This happened on the day of the salt and water wahala.
I had just come back from class in the d evening and got information that our roommate was rushed to the hospital. They said he had a very high temperature and had vomited like 3 times. What more, he lives in Obalende and had just come back from home I think like 2 days before. We were all hoping it wasn't ebola cos we knew the implications of that on us considering our room conditions. They immediately quarantined him at the medical centre.
But after like a week, he got better and was released. I really pitied him sha. Even when he came back, guys were reluctant to touch him too much.

Mine was when I travelled to india last month, I passed the temperature check point at murtala mohamed airport. When I arrived bengaluru airport india, immigration ordered every nigerian for ebola temperature screening. The man pointed the thing at me and was murmuring in hindi language with other officials. They quickly called a doctor, he came and rechecked me, he said I was normal and he gave us all a form to fill all our details flight no, seat, residential address. Then he gave us letter that we are ebola free.

The thermometer was attached to the gate? shocked shocked shocked I haven't seen that one before. That one is even better than the ones people handle.

Well, if it shows LO, they should take it off and on and try it again. It should give a reading
