Parkinson Law states that "expenses will always rise to catch up with income", or "the work to be done will always grow to fill the available time and resources available".

This explains why many of us do not have time for our families. The 21st century has seen the change in the world of work. Some years ago, when a worker clocks out for the day, he or she says good bye to work until the next morning.

However, things are different now. Most workers use different smart gadgets (mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and the like), most of which have the company email connected to them. Hence, even though they are not within the office premises, they are still working.


Thus, very few people really practice active presence even when they are with their spouses. As a matter of fact, some of us are so addicted to hearing the beeps from our gadgets that if they do not drop in after a while, we pick them up to be sure that they are not faulty; some begin to call people, just to fill the gap which I call 'electronic loneliness'.


To boost our marital romance, proactive measures must be taken.


ASSIGNMENT: Work out a plan to create a special time just for you and your spouse (work, children, neighbours, in-laws etc) should not encroach into this time.
